Pittsburgh Pirates general manager Ben Cherington reiterated that he is confident that left-hander Ryan Borucki (triceps) will return this season. Borucki started a minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Indianapolis on Aug. 17 and has made three appearances, allowing a run in three innings of work. He had his first rehab assignment shut down in July after feeling symptoms in his left forearm and elbow but started throwing again after receiving an injection in early August. The 30-year-old veteran reliever should be able to rejoin Pittsburgh's bullpen for the final month of the season, but he's completely off the fantasy radar. Borucki has only appeared in four games for the Bucs in relief in 2024 and has allowed two earned runs on four hits while walking none and striking out six batters in 3 1/3 innings.
The Chicago Cubs and left-handed pitcher Ryan Borucki are reportedly "in agreement on a minor-league contract," according to a tweet from FanSided's Robert Murray on Wednesday morning. Murray tweeted the following: "Left-hander Ryan Borucki is in agreement on a minor-league contract with the Chicago Cubs, source said. Borucki, 28, posted a 4.26 ERA in 21 games with the Mariners last season after five years with the Blue Jays." A relief pitcher for each of the past three seasons, Borucki will provide the Cubs with some additional bullpen depth heading into next season. At the moment, the only left-handed bullpen options on Chicago's 40-man roster are Brandon Hughes and Anthony Kay.
The Seattle Mariners traded infielder Tyler Keenan to Toronto Blue Jays for pitcher Ryan Borucki. He was designated for assignment by the Blue Jays on Tuesday but ultimately was dealt to Seattle on Saturday. The 28-year-old owns a 9.95 ERA and 1.89 WHIP with eight strikeouts over 6 1/3 innings in 2022. Mike Ford was designated for assignment by the Mariners in a corresponding move. Borucki doesn't have much fantasy value and is buried on the closer depth chart behind Paul Sewald, Andres Munoz, Diego Castillo, and Sergio Romo.
Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Ryan Borucki (forearm, elbow) is set to make another rehab appearance, according to manager Charlie Montoyo. He has already made one appearance, but is scheduled to pitch one inning with Triple-A Buffalo on Saturday. Borucki has been sidelined since May, but it sounds like he is nearing a return. It wouldn't be shocking to see Borucki back on the Jays roster shortly after the All-Star break. Sadly, Borucki has limited upside in fantasy formats and can be ignored in most leagues.
Toronto Blue Jays relief pitcher Rafael Dolis (finger) will join Triple-A Buffalo for a rehab assignment on Friday, according to manager Charlie Montoyo. Reliever Ryan Borucki (elbow) will throw live batting practice early next week before moving to a rehab assignment. Dolis could be back early next week, while Borucki is a little bit further behind. But the Jays should be getting bullpen reinforcements soon. Dolis has three saves this year but also a 5.14 ERA and 1.57 WHIP in 21 innings before he suffered a right middle finger sprain on June 17. The left-handed Borucki suffered a flexor strain on May 14 and has a 4.05 ERA, 0.90 WHIP and 14 K's in 13 1/3 innings. Neither relief arm is particularly attractive in fantasy, even in saves/holds leagues.
Toronto Blue Jays relief pitcher Julian Merryweather (oblique) threw a "nice and easy" side session this week, according to manager Charlie Montoyo. Reliever Ryan Borucki (elbow) had a successful bullpen session on Friday. His next step is either a side session on Monday or live batting practice on Tuesday, followed by a minor league rehab assignment. Merryweather will follow the same plan. Don't be surprised if these two relievers don't return until after the All-Star break. Merryweather, 29, hadn't allowed a run while striking out seven and walking one with two saves in 4 1/3 innings before his injury. If he returns to his pre-injury form, he could once again be in the mix for saves in Toronto with Jordan Romano when he returns.
The Toronto Blue Jays have placed pitcher Ryan Borucki on the injured list due to side effects from the COVID-19 vaccine. Borucki has made four appearances out of the bullpen this year. He's pitched 3 1/3 innings and allowed one hit, one walk and two runs (one earned) while striking out three. The team also placed fellow reliever Tyler Chatwood (triceps) on the injured list on Friday. They called up Ty Tice and Joel Payamps, two players who could be called upon out of the bullpen soon due to the sudden hit the team's bullpen has taken.
The Toronto Blue Jays have optioned starting pitchers Nate Pearson and Ryan Borucki to their taxi squad ahead of Thursdays roster cutoff. Pearson will likely be called up after the 29th, so the Jays gain an extra year of team control, and hell presumably join the starting rotation during its second time through. Boruckis option was a bit of a surprise, but he did miss most of last season due to injury and could use a little more seasoning.
Toronto Blue Jays pitching coach Pete Walker stated on Friday that reliever Ryan Borucki (elbow) is now throwing side sessions and "feels great," putting him on track to be fully healthy whenever the season starts. Walker also noted that if there is a season, "he should be right in the mix and a big part of it." Borucki missed nearly the entire 2019 campaign after undergoing elbow surgery and was still experiencing soreness in February when spring camp opened up in Florida. The left-hander figures to bounce between the bullpen and the starting rotation in 2020, giving him minimal fantasy intrigue in all formats.
Toronto Blue Jays manager Charlie Montoyo updated the status of reliever Ryan Borucki (elbow) in a conference call on Thursday, stating he "feels great ... no setbacks." The left-hander missed the majority of the 2019 campaign with an elbow injury and underwent surgery last August to remove bone spurs from his throwing arm. After experiencing soreness at the beginning of spring training in February, Borucki has progressed slowly back to health, and it appears that he'll be ready for action whenever the season begins. The 26-year-old figures to hold a spot in the Jays bullpen, but could find some opportunities as a starter where he would only find fantasy value as a streaming option.
