Sal Stewart Finishes Season with Two Hits and Three RBI in Reds' Loss

Cincinnati Reds first baseman/third baseman Sal Stewart went 2-for-4 with three RBI and a stolen base in his team's 8-4 loss to the Dodgers. While the loss ended the Reds' season, fans have to be excited about what they saw from Stewart, who made a great first impression in the majors after his September call-up. He hit .255 in his 18 games in the regular season with five homers, a .355 wOBA, and a 52.5% hard-hit rate. The 21-year-old lefty came off the bench and walked as a pinch-hitter in Game 1 of the series before his big game Wednesday night. He'll be a key part of the Reds' future plans and has a good shot of filling an everyday role out of Spring Training next year.

Sal Stewart Named Southern League Player of the Year

Cincinnati Reds corner infield prospect Sal Stewart was named the Double-A Southern League Player of the Year. The Reds' top-ranked prospect played 80 games for Double-A Chattanooga, where he slashed .306/.377/.473 with 10 home runs and 13 steals before getting a promotion to Triple-A Louisville. The 21-year-old also impressed there, slashing .315/.394/.629 with 10 home runs in just 38 games. The right-handed slugger posted better-than-average strikeout rates at every stop in the minors, and now finds himself in the majors, hitting .255 (.320 xBA) with an .832 OPS, .353 wOBA, and a 122 wRC+. Stewart should begin 2026 with the Reds, and redraft managers should get familiar, as he's got plenty of pop and bat-to-ball skills to make him very fantasy relevant, not to mention he'll call hitter-friendly Great American Ball Park home.

Spencer Steer Out, Sal Stewart Debuting on Monday

Cincinnati Reds first baseman Spencer Steer (leg) is out of the lineup on Monday against the Toronto Blue Jays. Manager Terry Francona said the Reds are resting Steer because he has been playing through a leg injury. Top infield prospect Sal Stewart, making his major league debut, will fill in for Steer at first base and bat sixth against right-hander Chris Bassitt. Stewart has slashed a superb .309/.383/.524 with 20 homers, 80 RBI, 78 runs scored, and 17 stolen bases in 494 plate appearances between Double-A and Triple-A this season. The 21-year-old is versatile enough to play multiple positions in the infield, and Francona indicated that he'll receive plenty of opportunities during the final month of the season.

Reds Promoting Sal Stewart to Majors

The Cincinnati Reds are set to promote prized infield prospect Sal Stewart from Triple-A Louisville, Jon Morosi of MLB Network reports. Stewart joined the Reds as the 32nd pick in the 2022 draft and has developed into a premier prospect since then. MLB Pipeline ranks him the game's No. 31 farmhand and the top player in the Reds' system. The team bumped Stewart from Double-A to Triple-A earlier this season, and he tore the cover off the ball in Louisville en route to a promotion to the bigs. Stewart played in 38 Triple-A games this season and slashed an otherworldly .315/.394/.629 with 10 homers, 36 RBI, and four stolen bases in 165 plate appearances. The 21-year-old has combined for 20 HRs and 17 steals in the minors in 2025 while spending most of his time at third base and some at second. The Reds haven't gotten good production at either spot, which could allow Stewart to establish himself over the next few weeks.

Sal Stewart Collects Two Hits, Drives in Two on Saturday

Cincinnati Reds infield prospect Sal Stewart continued to hit on Saturday, going 2-for-5 with two RBI at Triple-A Louisville. The Reds' top-ranked prospect has now reached base safely via hit or walk in 22 consecutive games, now hitting .315 with a 1.023 OPS through 38 games at Triple-A, tallying 10 home runs and four steals with better than average strikeout (15.8 percent) and walk rates (11.5 percent). As hot as he's been, there's hope the 21-year-old would be called up when rosters expand on Monday, however, the team would also need to clear a spot for him as he's not currently on the 40-man roster. Regardless, Stewart should be in Cincinnati next year and should be stashed away in dynasty leagues.

Sal Stewart Stays Hot With Homer on Tuesday

Cincinnati Reds third base prospect Sal Stewart went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in a 7-0 victory against Triple-A Columbus. Stewart has been red-hot at the plate since being promoted to Triple-A on July 18, slashing .323/.401/.669 with 10 homers in 147 plate appearances. The quality of contact has been elite with a 49.5% hard-hit rate and 20.4% barrel rate, which only trails the recently promoted phenom Samuel Basallo at Triple-A. Stewart has shown solid plate discipline and is limiting strikeouts during this time as well. The 21-year-old possesses an enticing power and speed blend, as he has 20 homers and 17 steals in 476 plate appearances between Double-A and Triple-A this year. He is currently ranked as the number one prospect in the Reds system according to MLB.com.

Sal Stewart Hammers Two More Home Runs at Triple-A

Cincinnati Reds infield prospect Sal Stewart continued his assault on Triple-A pitching on Saturday, drawing two walks and going 2-for-4 with a pair of home runs for Louisville. He also tallied four RBI and three runs scored in the contest. The Reds' top prospect has now reached base safely via hit or walk in 17 straight games for the Bats, and is now hitting .317 with a 1.046 OPS in 32 games at that level. Right now, there is no room for him on the major league roster, but with rosters expanding in September, it would be surprising if he were not with the big league club at some point this year.

Sal Stewart Homers Again, Hit Streak Now at Seven Games

Cincinnati Reds infield prospect Sal Stewart extended his hit streak to seven games on Wednesday in epic fashion, going 4-for-6 at Triple-A Louisville, including a pair of doubles, a home run, five RBI, and two runs scored. The Reds' top-ranked prospect has homered in back-to-back games and is now 30-for-89 (.337) with 12 doubles and six home runs at Triple-A, boasting a 12.0 percent strikeout rate and an above-average walk rate of 10.0 percent. The 21-year-old does not appear to be overmatched whatsoever and is making a strong case for a September call-up. With 16 steals on the year, he also possesses an element of speed and has the well-rounded makings of an appealing fantasy asset.

Sal Stewart Homers, Extends Triple-A Hit Streak to Six Games

Cincinnati Reds infield prospect Sal Stewart homered in a 1-for-3 day at the plate for Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday. He also walked twice, recorded one RBI, and scored two runs in the contest. The Reds' top-ranked prospect is now riding a six-game hit streak for the Bats, while hitting safely in 19 of the 22 games he's played so far at Triple-A. The result is a .313/.383/.614 slash line while recording nearly as many walks (10) as strikeouts (12). For the season, the 21-year-old is slashing .308/.378/.504 with 29 doubles, 15 home runs, and 16 stolen bases in 102 games. With the type of success he's had, it wouldn't be a surprise to see a late-season call-up in September, but whether that happens or not, the right-handed slugger should have a fantasy impact at some point next year.

Sal Stewart Dominant Since Joining Triple-A

Cincinnati Reds infield prospect Sal Stewart has continued to perform at an elite level since moving up to Triple-A. Over his last 11 games at the top level of the minor leagues, Stewart has posted a stellar .400/.468/.800 slash line with seven doubles, three home runs, 11 RBI, and a 4:6 K:BB. Through 18 total games with the Louisville Bats, the No. 2-ranked prospect in the system on MLB.com has posted a strong .948 OPS with seven doubles and four long balls. Stewart opened the campaign with Double-A and looked just as dominant, holding a .306/.377/.473 line with 19 doubles, 10 home runs, and 13 stolen bases across an 80-game stint. Even though the Reds recently acquired third baseman Ke'Bryan Hayes, Stewart could find a role if the Reds remain in the NL playoff race.
