Seth Halvorsen Could Return This Season

Colorado Rockies right-handed reliever Seth Halvorsen (elbow) still has a chance to return this season. Halvorsen, on the 15-day injured list since Aug. 3 with a flexor strain, will continue rehabbing until the Rockies determine next steps in approximately 10 days. The hard-throwing 25-year-old leads the Rockies in saves (11), though the rest of his numbers leave plenty to be desired. Halvorsen has pitched to a 4.99 ERA with a 1.56 WHIP and 36 strikeouts against 21 walks in 39 2/3 innings. Victor Vodnik, another 25-year-old righty who possesses elite velocity, has taken over as Colorado's primary closer in Halvorsen's absence and converted all four of his save chances in August.

Seth Halvorsen Could Return This Season

Colorado Rockies relief pitcher Seth Halvorsen (elbow) has been diagnosed with a mild flexor strain and will not need surgery, according to interim manager Warren Schaeffer. Schaeffer called it, "a good report from an MRI" and added that Halvorsen could potentially pitch again this year. The 25-year-old righty has been the Rockies' primary closer this season and has 11 saves in his 42 games while posting a 4.99 ERA, 5.18 FIP, and 36 strikeouts in 39 2/3 innings. He was placed on the 15-day injured list after leaving Saturday's game with the injury, but he still has value and is worth holding if possible at this point. While he is out, Victor Vodnik and Juan Mejia will share closing duties.

Seth Halvorsen Placed on Injured List With Elbow Strain

The Colorado Rockies announced on Sunday that they placed right-handed reliever Seth Halvorsen (elbow) on the 15-day injured list with a right-elbow strain and recalled right-hander Nick Anderson from Triple-A Albuquerque in a corresponding move. Halvorsen was pulled mid at-bat during his outing against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Saturday and will now miss at least the next couple of weeks. In the 25-year-old's absence, Victor Vodnik and Juan Mejia might be the most likely candidates for saves in Colorado, even though Dugan Darnell came in to close the door on the Bucs in the 8-5 victory on Saturday. The Rockies are sending Halvorsen for an MRI exam on Sunday, at which point we should know more about whether he'll need more than 15 days to recover. He has an ERA just under 5.00 and has converted 11 of his 14 save chances for the worst team in baseball.

Seth Halvorsen Suffers Injury on Saturday

Colorado Rockies relief pitcher Seth Halvorsen (elbow) was removed early during Saturday's outing against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Halvorsen was only able to throw five pitches before being pulled out due to an elbow injury. Afterwards, interim manager Warren Schaeffer said that the injury didn't look good. The assumption is that Halvorsen will undergo further testing before they decide what to do next. If he misses time, Victor Vodnik could be next in line for saves in Colorado. Fantasy managers will need to stay tuned for more updates.

Rockies Willing to Listen to Offers for Victor Vodnik, Seth Halvorsen

The Colorado Rockies are willing to listen to trade offers for relievers Victor Vodnik and Seth Halvorsen, but the team has "high" asking prices for the two hard-throwing right-handers, according to Katie Woo and Will Sammon of The Athletic. Both Vodnik and Halvorsen are under affordable control for the next handful of years, which explains why the Rockies want to keep them and also why there's interest from elsewhere. Vodnik isn't due to reach free agency until after the 2029 campaign. The 25-year-old has put up a 3.00 ERA with 30 strikeouts and six holds over 30 innings this season, though he has succeeded despite issuing 17 walks. Halvorsen, also 25, is under wraps through 2030. Serving as the Rockies' primary closer this season, Halvorsen picked up his 10th save of the year on Friday with a 1-2-3 ninth inning in a 6-5 win over the Baltimore Orioles. Despite possessing elite velocity (his fastball averages 100.1 mph), Halvorsen has only managed a 4.89 ERA with 35:18 K:BB across 38 2/3 frames.

Seth Halvorsen Battling Forearm Fatigue

Colorado Rockies right-handed reliever Seth Halvorsen (forearm) was unavailable to pitch in the team's series against the Cincinnati Reds last weekend because of forearm fatigue. Halvorsen has been the Rockies' primary closer this season, but with him on the shelf, the team turned to Victor Vodnik to fill that role. Vodnik had an eventful weekend, picking up a save, a blown save, and a loss in two appearances. He may be first in line for saves should Halvorsen require a stint on the 15-day injured list. Halvorsen has converted eight of his 11 save opportunities while posting subpar numbers across 35 2/3 innings. The 25-year-old has logged a 5.30 ERA with a 1.57 WHIP and 32:17 K:BB

Seth Halvorsen Tallies Eighth Save

Colorado Rockies reliever Seth Halvorsen picked up his eighth save of the year in a 6-4 win over the Chicago White Sox on Sunday. Halvorsen allowed a two-out walk to Chase Meidroth, but he retired the other three hitters he faced in a 12-pitch frame. While save opportunities are rare for the last-place Rockies, Halvorsen is their top choice in that department. The 25-year-old right-hander has pitched to a 4.04 ERA with 32:16 K:BB and a 1.43 WHIP in 35 2/3 innings.

Seth Halvorsen Escapes with Seventh Save

Colorado Rockies reliever Seth Halvorsen got four outs to log his seventh save in the team's 7-6 win over the Houston Astros on Thursday. Halvorsen inherited runners on the corners in a 7-5 game in the top of the eighth, but he retired Isaac Paredes to escape the trouble. The ninth was trickier for Halvorsen, who gave up three hits (including a leadoff triple to Jake Meyers) and a run before getting Cooper Hummel to fly out to end the game. Halvorsen threw 26 pitches and struck out one in the outing. The 25-year-old right-hander has recorded a 4.15 ERA with 32 strikeouts, 15 walks, and a 1.44 WHIP in 34 2/3 innings. Between those unspectacular numbers and the lack of save opportunities that come with pitching for the last-place Rockies, Halvorsen is not much of a fantasy asset.

Seth Halvorsen Earns Sixth Save

Colorado Rockies relief pitcher Seth Halvorsen was asked to come onto the mound with a two-run lead in the ninth inning on Sunday. Halvorsen gave up one hit, but was able to work around it and finish off the D-Backs hitters and earn his sixth save of the season. Halvorsen has been a decent option out of the bullpen for the Rockies this season. Unfortunately, the Rockies don't win enough games to warrant rostering Halvorsen in most fantasy formats. He could offer some deep league value, but that's about it.

Seth Halvorsen Secures the Save on Monday

Colorado Rockies relief pitcher Seth Halvorsen closed out his team's 6-4 win in Washington on Monday night to earn his fourth save of the season. The 24-year-old right has four saves and four holds in his 29 games this season, posting a 4.40 ERA and 4.54 FIP in his 28 2/3 innings. He has 26 strikeouts and 28 hits allowed in those innings, and he has provided scoreless relief in eight of his last 10 appearances. On Monday, he had to work around a leadoff walk to Luis Garcia Jr., but got a double-play from Brady House before getting Josh Bell to ground out to first to end the game. The Rockies haven't had many save chances this season, but have been playing better lately. Halvorsen has been their primary closer when needed this season and should stay in that role for now, making him potentially a sneaky source of saves.
