The Chicago White Sox announced on Friday that they agreed to terms with free-agent infielders Brandon Drury and Tristan Gray on minor-league deals that include non-roster invites to spring training. Drury fell apart in his second year with the Angels in 2024 to the tune of a .169/.242/.228 lash line with four homers, 15 RBI and 81 strikeouts in 360 plate appearances over 97 games. The ChiSox will be hoping the 32-year-old veteran can turn it around, and he should have a clear path to a big-league roster spot, but fantasy managers in mixed leagues should be ignoring him. Gray, 28, is probably more of a long shot for the Opening Day roster without as much big-league experience as Drury. The left-handed hitter has hit just .152/.222/.273 with a homer and RBI in 17 major-league games with the Rays, Marlins and A's after debuting in 2023.
According to Alex Stumpf of MLB.com, the Pittsburgh Pirates have designated infielder Tristan Gray for assignment. This transaction opened a roster spot for Andrew McCutchen, who was added to the Pittsburgh roster on a one-year contract. Over the past two seasons, Gray has appeared in just 15 games at the major league level. Across this small stint, the Rice product held a .152/.222/.273 line and hit just one extra-base hit. Through 112 games at the Triple-A level last summer, Gray posted a solid .251/.322/.467 line with 25 doubles, 19 home runs, and a 41:121 BB:K ratio. This was very similar to the .235/.312/.485 line he held during the 2023 campaign at the top level of the minor leagues. Gray is expected to spend most of the 2025 season in the minor leagues.
Tristan Gray Hits Homer In Major League Debut On Sunday
Tampa Bay Rays infielder Tristan Gray went 2-for-4 at the plate in his major league debut Sunday against the Orioles. Gray made the most of his opportunity as one of his hits was a solo shot off of Baltimore's right-handed reliever Jorge Lopez. Before being called up, the 27-year-old posted a slash line of .234/.309/.482 in 127 games this season in Triple-A Durham. Despite striking out 160 times with Durham, Gray did smash 28 homers.
Tampa Bay Rays infielder Tristan Gray has had his contract selected from Triple-A Durham and is slated to make his MLB debut this weekend. Infielder Taylor Walls was placed on the paternity list so Gray will take his place on the roster. The 27-year-old prospect has some swing and miss to his game with a .234/.309/.482 batting line and 160 strikeouts over 127 games with the Durham Bulls this season. He does have 28 home runs, however, and bopped 33 last season at the same level. He likely won't be up for long and he doesn't hold much fantasy value as a result of that.
