Cleveland Browns offensive coordinator Todd Haley told reporters on Thursday that rookie quarterback Baker Mayfield has a long way to go and that Tyrod Taylor is the team's leader. Haley stated, "I would say it's clear Tyrod (Taylor) is the leader of this team, and that's a big component of that position also." Taylor reportedly has impressed the team with his play and professionalism, which has caught the eye of teammates and the coaching staff. Taylor will almost certainly open the season as Cleveland's starting quarterback, although Mayfield could see some playing time later in the season, especially if the Browns struggle to win games. Surrounded by the best offensive weapons of his career, Taylor is a sneaky bet to finish as a low-end QB1 in fantasy.

Cleveland Browns head coach Hue Jackson reaffirmed on Tuesday that Tyrod Taylor will be the team's starting quarterback for the 2018 season. It is no secret that the Browns plan to select a quarterback with their first overall pick in the NFL draft on April 26, but Jackson confirmed that whoever that player is, he will sit on the sidelines and learn the ropes in his rookie year. Taylor is primed to have a big season, as he will work with the best set of offensive weapons that he has ever had in his career. Barring an injury or a catastrophic meltdown, it appears Taylor will be under center for all 16 of the Browns games in 2018.

Cleveland Browns quarterback Tyrod Taylor is a new addition for Cleveland and Browns coach Hue Jackson does not view Tyrod Taylor as a "bridge quarterback." "This is the starting quarterback on our team," said Jackson. "There are no 'bridge' players. This guy walks in having more wins than a lot of people in this building. Hopefully, that will rub off on the rest." This is coachspeak, but Taylor looks entrenched as the Week 1 starter. With Cleveland expected to draft a quarterback first overall, Taylor is going to have a short leash.
