Chicago Bears head coach Matt Nagy is excited about the possibilities that wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson brings to the offense. The speedy former first-round pick will also help the team's return game on special teams. "He's going to play with the offense and he's going to have a role," Nagy said. Like he was used in New England, Patterson will likely be more of a gadget player used on sweeps and screens out of the backfield, leaving him very little chance of becoming fantasy relevant. He played on just 22 percent of the Patriots offensive snaps a year ago in his 15 games, but he did set a career high in touches with 63.
The Chicago Bears signed free-agent return specialist, wide receiver and part-time running back Cordarrelle Patterson to a two-year, $10 million deal on Wednesday, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. The contract boasts $5 million guaranteed. Patterson is a two-time All-Pro and showed his versatility in helping the Patriots win another Super Bowl last year. He had 21 catches for 247 yards and three touchdowns while also having 42 carries for 228 yards and a touchdown and 28.8 yards per kick return on 23 attempts. It'll be interesting to see what packages Bears head coach Matt Nagy concocts for Patterson, but ultimately he's unlikely to touch the ball enough to give him much fantasy appeal.
New England Patriots wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson (knee) practiced in full on Wednesday. Patterson was held out of Week 17 as a precaution and should return to face the Chargers this Sunday in the divisional round. Patterson's role could increase now that Josh Gordon is no longer in the fold, but he's more of a gadget player and will still probably have the biggest impact in the return game. There's very little upside to select him in DFS games.
