Brandon Aiyuk News
San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk (ankle) has been deemed unavailable for Sunday's game versus the Seahawks, ending his rookie year. Aiyuk picked up a high-ankle sprain during the team's Week 16 win over the Cardinals, a contest in which he recorded a season-low one reception. Aiyuk's role in the passing game had erupted during the second half of the year as the 49ers sustained widespread injuries to multiple pass-catchers. Maybe most impressive about Aiyuk's rookie season is that beyond the 60 receptions for 748 yards and five touchdowns, he compiled those numbers without Jimmy Garoppolo under center for most of the campaign. The group of Richie James, River Cracraft, Kendrick Bourne, and Jordan Matthews are all in line to see increased targets without Aiyuk in the mix during Week 17.
San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk had a quiet game in Week 16 against the Arizona Cardinals. Aiyuk caught one of his two targets for 15 yards and added a 16-yard rush. 49ers quarterback C.J. Beathard only attempted 22 passes this week and many of them were directed towards George Kittle and the team's running backs. Aiyuk's two targets led all 49ers wide receivers. It was a disappointing output by Aiyuk, who was red hot coming into this week's game. He's still in the midst of a standout rookie year with 60 catches for 748 yards and five touchdowns. He also has two rushing touchdowns on the year.
San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk has seen a whopping 29 targets over his past two games. Over that stretch, he's caught 19 passes for 192 yards and a touchdown. This week, as the 49ers face the Arizona Cardinals, Aiyuk will be catching passes from the team's third-string quarterback C.J. Beathard with Nick Mullens (arm) out for the year. The dropoff from Mullens to Beathard might be somewhat negligible. Aiyuk should still see a sturdy amount of targets as the team's No. 1 receiver, but what might cap his upside a bit is if George Kittle (foot) returns this week. Regardless, Aiyuk has been too good lately to get away from. He should be started in all leagues as a strong WR2 play in Week 16.
