Braxton Berrios News
The Miami Dolphins signed former New York Jets wide receiver Braxton Berrios to an undisclosed one-year deal on Thursday, according to a league source. Berrios played for the New England Patriots in 2018, the Jets from 2019-2022 and will now stay in the AFC East with the Dolphins. The 27-year-old will give Miami more receiving depth and can also serve as a returner on special teams. In 17 games (two starts) for the Jets last year, he caught 18 of his 32 targets for 145 yards. His best season came in 2021, when injuries to New York's receiving corps allowed him to take on a bigger role and catch 46 passes for 431 yards and two touchdowns in 16 games. It's unlikely that Berrios will move the fantasy needle in South Beach.
The New York Jets will release wide receiver Braxton Berrios at the start of the new league year next week on March 15, according to a source. The two sides have discussed a restructure of his contract, but they were unable to reach an agreement. Berrios' release will save $5 million against his year's salary cap. The 27-year-old pass-catcher had a career year in 2021 by catches 46 passes for 431 yards and two touchdowns, but he finished with just 18 receptions on 32 targets for 145 yards and no touchdowns last season. However, he added nine carries for 91 yards and two TDs on the ground in 17 games (two starts). Berrios will now look for work elsewhere as a depth receiver and return man on special teams.
New York Jets wide receiver Braxton Berrios might be a cut candidate this offseason. The 27-year-old has an $8.2 million salary cap hit for the upcoming 2023 campaign. That being said, the Jets could save $5 million from releasing Berrios this offseason. In 2022, Berrios finished with 18 receptions, 145 yards and zero touchdowns in 17 games (two starts) with the Jets. To be fair, Berrios was not a big part of the offensive scheme this season, so it was difficult for him to produce without much of a role. It might be better for both sides to move on and let Berrios try to find a new team, where he can make a bigger impact.
