Azeez Al-Shaair News
San Francisco 49ers linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair has signed his one-year tender to remain with the team. The 49ers already exercised their fifth-year option on star defensive end Nick Bosa, but retaining Al-Shaair was a major priority as well. With no first-round pick after trading up for quarterback Trey Lance last year, the team needs to keep as much of their core intact in order to remain a contender. The 24-year-old Al-Shaair tallied 102 tackles last year (58 solo) with two sacks, one interception and nine tackles for loss. He will cover the weak side to complement All-Pro middle linebacker Fred Warner. The 49ers were a strong defensive unit overall in 2021, allowing the third-fewest yards per game, and should enter 2022 as a strong option for fantasy under second-year defensive coordinator Demeco Ryans.
San Francisco 49ers linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair (knee) suffered a knee sprain in last week's loss to the Tennessee Titans and is expected to miss at least the final two games of the regular season. But if the 49ers are able to get into the postseason, there's at least a chance that they could get Al-Shaair back by then. Defensive tackle D.J. Jones (ankle) will be limited this week with an ankle injury. Al-Shaair has started all 13 of his games played for the Niners defense this year and has been very strong, recording 102 tackles (58 solo), nine tackles for loss, two QB hits, one interception, five passes defensed, one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries and two sacks. Even without Al-Shaair in Week 17 against the Houston Texans, the 49ers defense should be a strong play in fantasy.
San Francisco 49ers linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair (knee) suffered a knee injury late in the Thursday night loss to the Tennessee Titans, and he will undergo an MRI exam on Friday. Head coach Kyle Shanahan was unsure of the severity of the injury on Thursday night. The 24-year-old has been relevant in deep IDP leagues in 2021, as he's racked up an impressive 102 tackles (58 solo), nine tackles for loss, one interception, five passes defensed, one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries and two sacks in 13 games. The middle of San Fran's defense would take a big hit if Al-Shaair is forced to miss any time, but the 49ers defense/special teams will still be an elite fantasy unit next week against the Houston Texans.
