Carlton Davis III Agrees To Three-Year Contract With Patriots
Free-agent cornerback Carlton Davis III has agreed to a three-year, $60 million contract with the New England Patriots, according to ESPN. The deal includes $34.5 million in total guarantees. Davis is a former second-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers out of Auburn and was traded to the Detroit Lions last offseason. Overall, the 28-year-old has collected 380 tackles (310 solo), 11 interceptions, 84 pass deflections, four forced fumbles, six fumble recoveries, and 17.5 run stuffs in 89 career games. Paired with Christian Gonzalez, New England now has one of the top cornerback duos in the NFL under new head coach Mike Vrabel.
According to Colton Pouncy and Amos Morale III of The Athletic, Detroit Lions defensive back Carlton Davis could depart in free agency. Pouncy and Morale also mentioned offensive guard Kevin Zeitler as another name who could depart in free agency. With the Lions already losing offensive coordinator Ben Johnson and also potentially defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn, the team could look quite different heading into the 2025 campaign. Davis sustained a fractured jaw during Week 15 and was sidelined for the remainder of the season. During the first 13 games of the campaign, the 28-year-old defensive back tallied 56 tackles (42 solos), 11 deflections, and two sacks while operating as a starter in the secondary. If he were to depart, Kindle Vildor would likely have an increased role next season.
Carlton Davis Will Undergo Surgery On His Broken Jaw, Out Indefinitely
Detroit Lions cornerback Carlton Davis (jaw) will undergo surgery on his broken jaw, which will sideline him indefinitely. The Lions' list of defensive injuries continues to pile up after their Week 15 loss against the Buffalo Bills. The Lions have ruled Alim McNeill (knee) out for the season. Khalil Dorsey (ankle) is dealing with an injury, and now Davis is sidelined indefinitely. With three games left in the regular season, the Lions will have to search for answers on the defensive side of the ball. They have been reeling late, allowing 31 points to the Green Bay Packers in Week 14 and 48 last week to the Bills.
Detroit Lions defensive back Carlton Davis III (knee) was a full participant during Tuesday's practice session. This is good news to see Davis getting upgraded to full in practice ahead of Thursday's game against the Green Bay Packers. It appears Davis is on track to return from his one-game absence after suffering a knee injury during the Week 12 win over the Indianapolis Colts. Davis has been an important piece to the secondary with 51 tackles, 10 passes defended, and two interceptions this season. Davis should be ready to go, barring any setbacks ahead of Thursday's game.
The Detroit Lions are acquiring cornerback Carlton Davis from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday, according to a source. It's unclear what the compensation is for the Buccaneers. It didn't make sense for the Bucs to keep the injury-prone Davis around due to his bloated contract, but he should be a nice addition to a Lions secondary that was regularly dominated by opposing wide receivers in 2023. The 27-year-old Davis will need to stay healthy, though, as he played in just 12 games in 2023 and has never played in more than 14 games in a single season in his six years in the NFL. In his 12 regular-season starts last year, he had 52 tackles (40 solo), two interceptions and nine passes defensed. If healthy, Davis will be a starter at cornerback for Detroit this fall.
Carlton Davis, William Gholston Out For Bucs Defense
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers defense will be missing cornerback Carlton Davis (groin) and defensive tackle Williams Gholston (ankle, knee) in Week 15 against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, as they've both been ruled out. Defensive tackle Vita Vea (toe) and free safety Ryan Neal (back) are also doubtful, and defensive back Jamel Dean (ankle, foot) and linebacker Devin White (foot) are questionable to play. It's a lot of notable injuries for a defense that hasn't really been on the fantasy radar at all in 2023, ranking 17th among all defenses this year in total points. They're facing a young, inexperienced and beat up Packer offense this weekend, but the Bucs D/ST isn't a recommended streaming option for fantasy managers.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Carlton Davis III (hip) won't return to Sunday's game against the 49ers. The Bucs defense already had their work cut out for them versus a high-powered San Francisco offense. However, the team also lost LaVonte David (groin) and Jamel Dean (ankle/foot), making things even more difficult. Nonetheless, it's tough to say if Davis, who had just one tackle in this one, will play in Week 12 versus the Colts. But he'll likely appear on the injury report throughout the week, with more updates likely to come in the next day or two.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive back Carlton Davis (toe) is listed as questionable for the Week 11 matchup against the San Francisco 49ers. The former second-round pick was able to get in full practice sessions this week. He appears to on track to return after missing last week's game versus the Tennessee Titans. The 26-year-old has been a reliable option in the secondary for this defense. He'll likely be tasked with keeping wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk in check this weekend.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Carlton Davis III (toe) is officially inactive for the Week 10 game on Sunday against the Tennessee Titans. An already thin Buccaneers secondary will also be without cornerback Josh Hayes (concussion) against Tennessee this weekend, so Titans rookie quarterback Will Levis could put up some big numbers in just his third NFL start. Davis aggravated a toe injury that already caused him to miss two games earlier this year. The 26-year-old was a game-time decision, so hopefully he'll be able to return to the field in Week 11 against the San Francisco 49ers.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive back Carlton Davis (toe) is tagged as questionable for the Week 4 matchup against the New Orleans Saints. The Bucs are hopeful to get Davis back this week after he has missed each of the last two games. He was able to get in a full practice on Thursday before being limited on Friday. The Bucs secondary could certainly use Davis on the field with Jamel Dean (neck) already ruled out. This secondary could be in danger if both Davis and Dean are sidelined for the Monday night matchup.
