Charlie Smyth Shakes Illness, Will Play Sunday

New Orleans Saints kicker Charlie Smyth (illness) is active for Sunday's Week 17 contest against the Tennessee Titans. He had been listed as questionable but evidently recovered enough from an illness that forced him to practice in a limited capacity on Friday. The 24-year-old recently inked a three-year extension with the Saints and led all kickers in fantasy scoring last Sunday with five field goals on six attempts. Now that he's healthy, he is a strong top-10 kicking option for Week 17 fantasy football.

Charlie Smyth Questionable for Week 17 Against Titans

New Orleans Saints kicker Charlie Smyth went 5-for-6 on field goal attempts and converted both extra points in the Week 16 victory over the Jets. His only miss came from 61 yards at the end of the first half. Since joining the Saints, Smyth is 9-of-11 on field goals and 7-for-7 on PATs. He enters Week 17 with a questionable tag due to an illness, but if he suits up, he is a solid option against a Tennessee team that has allowed three field goals in four of its last six games.

Charlie Smyth Elevated to Active Roster, Will Kick in Week 13

New Orleans Saints kicker Charlie Smyth has been elevated from the practice squad ahead of the Week 13 matchup against the Miami Dolphins. The Saints are searching for a new kicker after waiving Blake Grupe. Smyth was competing with Cade York throughout the week. It looks like the 24-year-old has won the competition and will start this weekend. The Irish native will make his NFL debut here, so fantasy managers don't have any previous NFL kicking stats to go by. That being said, Smith will be a risky streaming option for Week 13.

Charlie Smyth Dealing With Minor Injury

New Orleans Saints kicker Charlie Smyth (groin) didn't suit up during Sunday's preseason contest against the Tennessee Titans. The rookie kicker has been dealing with an ongoing groin issue since Friday. Head coach Dennis Allen said that the team wanted to play it safe and hold Smyth out of this game. In his absence, Blake Grupe handled the kicking duties during the preseason finale. He connected on both his field goal attempts and made all three of his extra point attempts as well. It remains to be seen which kicker the team decides to ride with into the regular season. Grupe is probably the favorite after making 30-of-37 field goal attempts and all 40 extra point attempts during his rookie season with the Saints in 2023.

Saints Sign Irish Kicker Charlie Smyth

The New Orleans Saints signed Irish kicker Charlie Smyth to an undisclosed deal on Friday through the league's International Player Pathway, adding him to a group that also includes second-year kicker Blake Grupe. Smyth was formerly a goal keeper for the County Down Gaelic football team in the Gaelic Athletic Association. The NFL UK social media account recently shared a video of Smith making a 63-yard field goal, and he also made 12 of his 16 field-goal tries during the NFL combine in February. The 22-year-old is the first Irish player to sign an NFL contract through the IPP. The Saints would be allowed to carry an extra spot on their practice squad for Smyth if he doesn't make the active roster out of training camp. It's a cool story, but he's unlikely to overtake Grupe as the primary field-goal kicker in 2024.
