Denzel Perryman Activated Off Injured Reserve

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Los Angeles Chargers activated linebacker Denzel Perryman (ankle) ahead of the Week 7 matchup with the Colts. The 32-year-old played sparingly this season, suffering an ankle injury during the Week 1 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs in Brazil. Unfortunately, that landed him on the Injured Reserve list. Perryman has an impressive resume. While he is nowhere near what he was back in 2021, when he made the Pro Bowl as a member of the Las Vegas Raiders, his anticipated presence isn't an ideal scenario for the 5-1 Colts, especially since Khalil Mack (elbow) was also activated off the IR. For now, Perryman remains questionable, but it appears he's trending toward being active in Week 7.

Denzel Perryman Arrested on Felony Charges

Los Angeles Chargers linebacker Denzel Perryman was arrested on Friday night on a felony weapons charge, according to ESPN's Kris Rhim. Police reportedly conducted a traffic stop on Perryman and found five firearms in his vehicle. He has a court date set for August 5, and the Chargers said in a statement that the team is in the process of gathering more information. The 32-year-old Perryman is entering his 11th NFL season and is competing with second-year linebacker Junior Colson for a starting role in Los Angeles. In 11 games last season with the Chargers, Perryman recorded 39 solo tackles and one sack. It remains to be seen what the fallout from this arrest will be, both from a legal perspective and in terms of a possible league suspension. If Perryman misses time, both Colson and veteran Troy Dye would likely be in line for increased reps.

Chargers Rule Out Denzel Perryman In Wild-Card Game

Los Angeles Chargers linebacker Denzel Perryman (elbow) has been officially ruled out of the team's Wild-Card playoff game against the Houston Texans due to an injury sustained while tackling Houston running back Joe Mixon. The veteran linebacker has missed most of the past seven weeks due to injury, and ultimately wasn't able to complete the playoff game either. Unfortunately for the Chargers, their issues have been team-wide, as three interceptions and a blocked PAT having led to Houston scoring nine non-offensive points.

Denzel Perryman Questionable To Return On Saturday

Los Angeles Chargers linebacker Denzel Perryman (elbow) is currently listed as questionable to return to Saturday's Wild-Card game against the Houston Texans. Perryman suffered a left elbow injury while making a tackle on Joe Mixon in the first quarter. The training staff evaluated Perryman on the sideline before he headed to the locker room. Troy Dye will be asked to fill in at linebacker until Perryman is able to return. Dye has been playing a bigger role lately with Perryman missing a few contests prior to Saturday's contest.

Denzel Perryman Limited On Tuesday

Los Angeles Chargers linebacker Denzel Perryman (groin) was a limited participant during Tuesday's practice session. The Chargers are hopeful to get Perryman healthy in time for Saturday's playoff matchup against the Houston Texans. Perryman missed a ton of time down the stretch of the season and only played in 11 games during the regular season. Despite that, Perryman still finished with 55 tackles, two tackles for loss, and one sack with the Chargers this season. Troy Dye has been seeing an increase in playing time lately with Perryman sidelined. Dye has been a viable option, including a 14-tackle game earlier in the season, but having Perryman available would be a nice boost for this defense.

Denzel Perryman Could Be Week-To-Week

Los Angeles Chargers linebacker Denzel Perryman (groin) could be considered week-to-week after he was hurt in the Sunday night win over the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 11. Perryman is getting second opinions on his groin this week and could be forced to miss the Monday night showdown against the Baltimore Ravens to close out Week 12 action. The Chargers won't have their first official practice of the week until Thursday, where it's likely Perryman will be listed as a DNP. Losing the 31-year-old veteran linebacker for a date against a high-octane offense like the Ravens would be a key blow to the Bolts' defense this week. In 10 games for the Chargers so far in 2024, Perryman has been productive with 54 tackles (38 solo) and one sack.

Chargers, Denzel Perryman Agree To One-Year Deal

The Los Angeles Chargers and free-agent veteran linebacker Denzel Perryman agreed to a one-year, $3 million deal on Sunday, according to a source. Perryman was the Chargers' second-round pick in 2015 out of Miami of Florida and was with the team in San Diego and LA from 2015-2020. In his six seasons with the Bolts to begin his NFL career, the 31-year-old had 250 solo tackles, five sacks, 26 tackles for loss, eight QB hits three interceptions, six passes defended, three forced fumbles and a fumble recovery in 69 games (51 starts). His best season came in 2021 with the Las Vegas Raiders, though, when he had a career-high 154 combined tackles in 15 starts to earn his first Pro Bowl nod. Perryman hasn't been as good the last two years with the Raiders and Houston Texans, although he'll be providing a veteran presence for the Chargers after Eric Kendricks moved on in free agency.

Denzel Perryman Could Return To Chargers

Free-agent linebacker Denzel Perryman is eyeing a potential return to the Los Angeles Chargers, the team that drafted him in the second round in 2015 out of Miami of Florida. The two sides have been talking about a reunion after Perryman spent the first six years of his NFL career playing for the Bolts. He was a Pro Bowler for the first time in 2021 with the Las Vegas Raiders and spent the 2023 campaign recording 76 tackles (45 solo), half a sack and six tackles for loss in 12 regular season games (11 starts) for the Houston Texans. The 31-year-old veteran was suspended for two games due to illegal hits. While Perryman isn't really much of an option in IDP fantasy leagues at this stage of his career, he would be a nice linebacker addition for a Chargers team that lost Pro Bowler Eric Kendricks in free agency this offseason.

Denzel Perryman Will Play Saturday

Houston Texans linebacker Denzel Perryman (ribs) doesn't carry an injury designation into Saturday's playoff game against the Baltimore Ravens. This is good news after Perryman suffered a ribs injury during the Wild-Card round last weekend. He was able to get through limited practice sessions all week. It appears that is good enough to clear the veteran linebacker for this game. Perryman figures to have a full workload for this divisional round matchup.

Denzel Perryman Suspended Three Games

Houston Texans middle linebacker Denzel Perryman has been suspended for three games without pay by the NFL for repeated violations of playing rules involving health and safety. Perryman lowered his head to hit Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase in the fourth quarter of the Week 10 on Sunday, which resulted in a flag for unnecessary roughness. The 30-year-old was also guilty of the same thing in Week 2 of this year and multiple other times in his career. If Perryman chooses to appeal the suspension, he could be allowed to play in Week 11 against the Arizona Cardinals until his suspension is heard. Through six games in his first year with the Texans in 2023, Perryman has 41 tackles (25 solo), half a sack and four tackles for loss.
