Jackson Jobe Transferred to the 60-Day Injured List

Detroit Tigers young right-hander Jackson Jobe (elbow) is scheduled to undergo Tommy John surgery and will miss the rest of the 2025 season, so the Tigers will move him to the 60-day IL to clear a 40-man spot for Matt Gage, who was selected from Triple-A Toledo on Thursday. A timeline for Jobe's return will likely arise following his procedure, though it's practically a guarantee that he won't be cleared to pitch until mid-to-late 2026 at the earliest. From a fantasy perspective, it appears Sawyer Gipson-Long has taken the fifth spot in the rotation. Jobe finished his rookie season with 49 innings pitched, a 4.22 ERA, and 1.49 WHIP.

Jackson Jobe to Undergo Tommy John Surgery

Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Jackson Jobe (elbow) received some bad news on Wednesday. Jobe will reportedly undergo Tommy John surgery on his elbow, which will sideline him for the rest of the season. The right-hander was placed on the injured list at the end of May due to a right elbow flexor strain. It was apparently worse than that, so he'll miss the second half of the season and part of the 2026 campaign as well. This is frustrating to both fantasy managers and baseball fans in general as Jobe is one of the top prospects in the Tigers system. Fantasy managers in redraft formats can safely drop Jobe with him done for the 2025 season. The Tigers should give a better timetable on his eventual return at a later date.

Tigers Place Jackson Jobe on 15-Day Injured List With Flexor Strain

The Detroit Tigers have placed right-handed pitcher Jackson Jobe (elbow) on the 15-day injured list with a right elbow flexor strain. Jobe was able to break camp with the major league roster but has had an inconsistent first taste of the big leagues. Through 49 innings (10 starts), the former top prospect has posted a 4.22 ERA with a 1.49 WHIP. He has struck out 39 batters and shown weak command of his pitches, allowing walks at a high 12.4% rate. Under the hood, Jobe has generated a 4.62 xERA and a high 43.3% hard-hit rate. Given his struggles, fantasy managers should only consider stashing him on an IR spot in deeper 12+ team formats. With Jobe sidelined, the Tigers will likely promote a pitcher from Triple-A. Sawyer Gipson Long (elbow) will likely be given an opportunity as he is nearing the completion of his rehab assignment.

Jackson Jobe With Decreased Velocity in Rough Start

Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Jackson Jobe didn't factor into the decision on Wednesday, allowing three runs on seven hits and three walks with four strikeouts in 4 innings. This was the third time this season that he failed to complete five frames, and his velocity was noticeably lower on all of his pitches. His four-seam fastball was down 1.5 mph, which may have led to the ineffectiveness. It's unclear if there is a potential injury concern or if he was just having a bad day, and there were no answers post-game as Jobe was bizarrely not in the clubhouse to talk to the media after the game.

Jackson Jobe Fans Seven, Walks Five In Monday's Win

Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Jackson Jobe picked up his third win of the season in Monday's 14-2 drubbing of the Red Sox. Jobe pitched 5 2/3 innings, allowing one run on three hits (including a solo home run) and five walks with seven strikeouts. He also hit a batter. The 22-year-old came into the season as one of fantasy's top prospects, and while he is 3-0 in seven starts, his performance has left some things to be desired. He owns a 4.32 ERA with a 1.47 WHIP, a 7.29 K/9 rate, and a 5.40 BB/9 rate in 33 1/3 IP. Walks were an issue at times throughout his minor-league career and have carried over to the big leagues for Jobe. His next scheduled start will be a decent matchup at the Blue Jays. His WHIP may cause concerns for fantasy managers in roto/category leagues, but he could be considered a start for those in points leagues.

Jackson Jobe Allows Six Runs On Wednesday

Detroit Tigers right-handed pitching prospect Jackson Jobe allowed eight hits and six earned runs during Wednesday's contest against the Colorado Rockies. Jobe struck out just two batters and allowed one walk. Most of Jobe's damage came against the long ball. He allowed his first round-tripper in the opening frame to third baseman Ryan McMahon, which was a two-run shot. Later in the third, Michael Toglia would also hit a two-run shot. The top prospect has struggled during his first extended stint in the major leagues. Across his first 27 2/3 innings in the Detroit starting rotation, the former third overall pick has posted a 4.88 ERA with a high 1.48 WHIP. He has held a 20:15 K:BB and allowed five home runs. Given his weak command, fantasy managers in shallower formats should not consider starting Jobe for the time being. He is lined up to face the Boston Red Sox next week.

Jackson Jobe Gets First Career Win

Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Jackson Jobe spun six scoreless innings against the struggling Twins to earn the first victory of his MLB career. Jobe pitched well in his first two starts but got a pair of no-decisions against the Mariners and White Sox while allowing five earned runs in nine innings with seven strikeouts. He was much better on Saturday in Minneapolis and needed only 87 pitches to record 18 outs in his first quality start and his first MLB win. The Tigers have won nine of their last 11 games to climb to the top spot in the AL Central, and Jobe will look to build on this victory when he takes the mound next Thursday at home against the Royals.

Jackson Jobe Looks Improved On Sunday

Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Jackson Jobe looked better on the mound than he did for his season debut. Jobe tossed five innings, allowing two earned runs, three walks, and striking out four batters in the no-decision. The 22-year-old still struggled with his command, but luckily he was facing a subpar White Sox lineup. Jobe would've been handed the loss if his team didn't come back in the ninth inning. Jobe has a ton of potential and appears to be heading in the right direction. However, he's far from a must-start during his next start against the Minnesota Twins.

Jackson Jobe Inefficient In First Career Start Monday

Detroit Tigers top starting pitching prospect Jackson Jobe did not have his first career start go exactly as planned in Monday's 9-6 win over the Mariners. The 22-year-old was staked with an early 6-0 lead. However, he lasted just four innings, allowing three runs on three hits (including two home runs) and four walks with three strikeouts. The No. 4 overall prospect per MLB Pipeline put together a strong enough spring to earn the final rotation spot for the Tigers and has more than enough pedigree to forgive a mediocre four innings. However, like most prospects, he may need some time to get acclimated to the big leagues, which means fantasy managers may need to wait before seeing significant fantasy returns. He should have a good chance in theory to rebound in his next start against the White Sox, although they have gotten off to a hot start in 2025.

Jackson Jobe Strikes Out Five In Final Spring Start

Detroit Tigers pitching prospect Jackson Jobe allowed two earned runs on three hits and two walks while striking out five batters over four innings of work in Tuesday's 4-3 exhibition loss to the Giants. Jobe finishes the spring with a 3.86 ERA and a 6:13 BB:K over 16 1/3 IP, earning him a spot in the Tigers' starting rotation to open the 2025 season. The former first-rounder will likely take on the Mariners in Seattle for his first MLB start. Although he's yet to show it in his brief time in the majors, the righty carried a 27.0 percent strikeout rate in the minors, so there is solid strikeout potential here. The 22-year-old is available at the end of drafts for those who have yet to make their selections, however, it should be noted that he currently only carries relief pitcher (RP) eligibility on Yahoo.
