Jake Bauers Dealing With Fractured Toe, Could Avoid Injured List

Milwaukee Brewers first baseman/outfielder Jake Bauers (toe) has been diagnosed with a fractured right big toe after he fouled a ball off himself in Monday's game against the San Francisco Giants, but he said it's an old fracture that X-rays picked up, according to Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. It sounds as though Bauers could avoid a stint on the injured list, and it will be a pain-management situation for him going forward. The 30-year-old left-handed hitter is not in the team's starting lineup for Game 2 of the series in San Francisco, and it's unclear when the Brewers might consider having him rejoin the starting nine. Andrew Vaughn will start at first base, with Luis Lara starting in right field against Giants right-hander Landen Roupp. Bauers should be held where he's rostered (73% in Yahoo leagues) in the midst of his career year in his third season with the Brewers. The former seventh-rounder by the San Diego Padres in 2013 already has a career-high 18 long balls with 60 RBI, 62 runs, eight steals, and a .265/.370/.486 slash line in his 97 games and 381 plate appearances in 2026.

Jake Bauers' Breakout Is Built to Last

Milwaukee Brewers first baseman/outfielder Jake Bauers carried a .268/.373/.508 line, 18 home runs, 56 runs, 59 RBI, and six steals into the break. He had never hit more than 12 homers in a major-league season. This is not hanging on luck alone. Bauers owns a 92.5 mph average exit velocity, 53.1% hard-hit rate, and 14.1% barrel rate, all career highs. Some of it may come back. His .258 expected average and .481 expected slugging percentage sit below the real marks, and Milwaukee still shares first base between Bauers and Andrew Vaughn. Bauers has made himself harder to bench, though. He owns an .809 OPS against left-handers and has also started in both corner-outfield spots. Add a 13.6% walk rate, and the profile still plays even if the average slips. The breakout is real enough to trust for the second half.

Jake Bauers Continues to Rake, Becoming a Priority Target to Add if Still Available

Milwaukee Brewers first baseman/outfielder Jake Bauers has maintained a high level of production this season. The 30-year-old is slashing .280/.351/.491 with 13 home runs, 46 RBI, and 40 runs scored in 234 plate appearances. He's also shown good plate discipline and the ability to get on base consistently, which has helped fuel Milwaukee's offense. Bauers has been one of Milwaukee's reliable power options during what has turned into a breakout season. His ability to contribute across multiple categories makes him a useful asset for fantasy managers, given the power he's displayed this season. Bauers is currently rostered in 71% of Yahoo leagues, so he may already be rostered in many formats. However, he remains a solid option in leagues where he's still available.

Jake Bauers is Becoming a Must-Have Player

Milwaukee Brewers first baseman/outfielder Jake Bauers is posting strong numbers at the plate recently. Over the last week, Bauers has hit two home runs, eight RBI, and six walks. Overall this season, Bauers is slashing .275/.371/.500 with eight homers and 28 RBI against right-handed pitching. He's crushing the ball right now and is showing no signs of slowing down at the plate. The 30-year-old could very well be headed towards a career-year, assuming he keeps playing at this pace. Fantasy managers in need of a stick should consider adding Bauers before someone else scoops him up off the waiver wire.

Jake Bauers Emerging as Legit Bat in Brewers Lineup, Waiver Wire Value Rising Fast

Brewers first baseman Jake Bauers has cooled off slightly since his 12-game hitting streak came to an end on May 23, but his overall production remains highly encouraging. The 30-year-old is slashing .280/.351/.491 with nine home runs and continues to take a step forward offensively in his third season with Milwaukee. Bauers has been especially productive over his last 15 games, hitting .327 with a .564 slugging percentage while providing a steady mix of power and contact. His 22.6 percent strikeout rate is the lowest mark of his career and has helped fuel a more consistent offensive profile. With his previous career high sitting at 12 home runs, Bauers is well positioned to surpass that total. Fantasy managers should view him as a strong waiver wire target moving into June.

What Does Power Outage Mean for Jake Bauers' Fantasy Value?

Milwaukee Brewers first baseman/outfielder Jake Bauers has done a fine job filling in at first base this season after expected starter Andrew Vaughn (hand) hit the injured list before the season began. Bauers hit five home runs in his first 15 games this season, and although he is in the midst of a 10-game homerless drought, the left-handed slugger is also currently riding a five-game hit streak. During this streak, he's gone 8-for-21 (.381) with three doubles, and is now slashing .261/.316/.477 for the year with a .339 wOBA and 115 wRC+. Expected stats like xBA and xwOBA are in line with his actual statistics, so there doesn't appear to be any signs of regression one way or the other, and with bat speed, hard-hit rate, and average exit velocity all 92nd-percentile or better, more long balls should be on the way. Vaughn could be back by mid-May, so Bauers' playing time could become diminished, but for now, he's worth adding from the waiver wire for managers looking for some power production, and is available in over 80 percent of leagues.

Jake Bauers Emerging as a Power Bat to Target on the Waiver Wire

Milwaukee Brewers first baseman/outfielder Jake Bauers has shown off his power early in the 2026 season, hitting .224/.297/.463 with five home runs, 13 RBI, 13 runs scored, and three stolen bases across his first 74 plate appearances. Bauers is currently posting a double-digit barrel rate for the fourth consecutive season and owns a career best 51.9% hard-hit rate. The 30-year-old is also making considerably more contact so far this season, as he's cut his strikeout rate from 27.1% in 2025 to 20.3% in 2026. With Brewers first baseman Andrew Vaughn (hand) and designated hitter Christian Yelich (groin) both currently on the injured list, the lefty-swinging Bauers is getting a chance to hit in a prime spot in the Milwaukee lineup against all right-handed starting pitchers. For fantasy managers in need of power, Bauers could be worth targeting on the waiver wire.

Jake Bauers Starting in Left Field on Opening Day

Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Jake Bauers will bat fifth and play left field during Thursday's Opening Day contest against the Chicago White Sox. Bauers wasn't projected to start, but he ended up getting into the lineup after starting left fielder Jackson Chourio (hand) was placed on the injured list just hours before first pitch. With Chourio slated to miss at least two weeks, we expect to see some combination of Bauers and Christian Yelich patrolling left field for the time being. Bauers gets the first crack at the role, with Yelich remaining in the designated hitter spot for now. The former slashed .235/.353/.399 with a 14.7% walk rate, 27.1% strikeout rate, and career-high 114 wRC+ across 86 games in the majors last year. He hits lefties much better than righties, so we wouldn't be surprised to see him start the first two contests before heading to the bench when the Brewers face White Sox southpaw Anthony Kay on Sunday.

Brewers Avoid Arbitration With Jake Bauers, Sign him to One-Year Deal

The Milwaukee Brewers signed first baseman/outfielder Jake Bauers to a one-year, $2.7 million deal on Friday to avoid salary arbitration, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post. Bauers will return to the Brewers for the 2026 season as a left-handed-platoon bat at first base, designated hitter, and left field. The 30-year-old hit .235/.353/.399 with a career-best .752 OPS, seven home runs, 28 RBI, 28 runs scored, and eight stolen bases in 85 regular-season games in his first year with the Brew Crew. Bauers made $1.4 million in 2025. He entered the month of September with a .653 OPS but had a 1.018 OPS in the final month of the regular season before posting a .973 OPS with a home run in six playoff games. If not for that strong final month of the year, Bauers' overall numbers would not have looked nearly as good, although he did make strides to drop his strikeout rate and increase his walk rate in 2025.

Jake Bauers Returns From Injured List

The Milwaukee Brewers reinstated first baseman/outfielder Jake Bauers (shoulder) from the 10-day injured list on Friday and placed shortstop Joey Ortiz (hamstring) on the 10-day IL in a corresponding move, according to MLB.com's Adam McCalvy. Bauers will begin on the bench in Friday's series opener against the visiting San Francisco Giants at American Family Field. The 29-year-old will return to the big leagues after dealing with a left-shoulder impingement that has kept him out since just after the All-Star break. He clubbed three home runs in his five minor-league rehab games and looks to be in midseason form at the plate, but Bauers won't have fantasy value in mixed leagues as a bench player for the first-place Brewers. In his second year with the team, he is hitting under .200 with five home runs, 18 RBI, five steals and 45 K's in 151 plate appearances.
