Brewers Avoid Arbitration With Jake Bauers, Sign him to One-Year Deal

The Milwaukee Brewers signed first baseman/outfielder Jake Bauers to a one-year, $2.7 million deal on Friday to avoid salary arbitration, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post. Bauers will return to the Brewers for the 2026 season as a left-handed-platoon bat at first base, designated hitter, and left field. The 30-year-old hit .235/.353/.399 with a career-best .752 OPS, seven home runs, 28 RBI, 28 runs scored, and eight stolen bases in 85 regular-season games in his first year with the Brew Crew. Bauers made $1.4 million in 2025. He entered the month of September with a .653 OPS but had a 1.018 OPS in the final month of the regular season before posting a .973 OPS with a home run in six playoff games. If not for that strong final month of the year, Bauers' overall numbers would not have looked nearly as good, although he did make strides to drop his strikeout rate and increase his walk rate in 2025.

Jake Bauers Returns From Injured List

The Milwaukee Brewers reinstated first baseman/outfielder Jake Bauers (shoulder) from the 10-day injured list on Friday and placed shortstop Joey Ortiz (hamstring) on the 10-day IL in a corresponding move, according to MLB.com's Adam McCalvy. Bauers will begin on the bench in Friday's series opener against the visiting San Francisco Giants at American Family Field. The 29-year-old will return to the big leagues after dealing with a left-shoulder impingement that has kept him out since just after the All-Star break. He clubbed three home runs in his five minor-league rehab games and looks to be in midseason form at the plate, but Bauers won't have fantasy value in mixed leagues as a bench player for the first-place Brewers. In his second year with the team, he is hitting under .200 with five home runs, 18 RBI, five steals and 45 K's in 151 plate appearances.

Jake Bauers to Begin Rehab Assignment on Friday

Milwaukee Brewers first baseman Jake Bauers (shoulder) said he will travel to Durham on Wednesday and will begin a minor-league rehab assignment on Friday with Triple-A Nashville, according to Adam McCalvy of MLB.com. The 29-year-old right-handed slugger is nearing a return to the big leagues, but with the way he's played this year and with how hot Andrew Vaughn has been of late, Bauers won't be guaranteed regular playing time at first base in Milwaukee when he's activated from the 10-day injured list. The former seventh-rounder by the San Diego Padres in 2013 is hitting just .197 (25-for-127) on the season with five long balls, 18 RBI, 16 runs scored and five stolen bases. Meanwhile, Vaughn has really enjoyed his change of scenery after being acquired from the White Sox. He's gone 32-for-91 (.352) with seven homers and 29 RBI in his first 26 games with the Brewers.

Jake Bauers Receives Cortisone Injection

Milwaukee Brewers first baseman Jake Bauers (shoulder) received a cortisone injection in his shoulder over the All-Star break and is looking at a mid-August return, reports Jack Stern of BrewerFanatic.com. He was recently placed on the 10-day injured list on Sunday due to a left shoulder impingement. He wasn't getting everyday playing time for Milwaukee and was batting just .197 through 60 games, so he'll be looking to turn his season around once he gets healthy. The Brewers could certainly use a good bat at first base or designated hitter, as they've also been without Rhys Hoskins since early July.

Jake Bauers Heads to Injured List

Milwaukee Brewers first baseman Jake Bauers (shoulder) was placed on the 10-day injured list on Sunday. Bauers had seen an increase in playing time lately, but is now set to miss a few weeks due to a left shoulder impingement. The Brewers are shorthanded at first base, so Andrew Vaughn figures to see the bulk of the playing time there. In a corresponding move, Tyler Black has been recalled to take over the active spot on the roster. Black figures to play a bench role, so there won't be much fantasy value there. Vaughn is going to benefit the most with Bauers heading to the shelf.

Jake Bauers Getting a Day Off

Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Jake Bauers is taking the day off in Sunday's series finale against the division-rival Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park. With Bauers resting in the matinee contest, Isaac Collins will make the start in left field and will hit fifth against Pirates left-hander Bailey Falter. The left-handed-hitting Bauers has started three of the last four games in left field for the Brew Crew against right-handed pitchers as he continues a platoon at the position with Collins. The 29-year-old has a .260/.357/.438 slash line on the year with a .795 OPS, three home runs, 13 RBI, nine runs scored and four stolen bases in his 73 trips to the plate. Bauers has gone 10-for-36 (.278) with a homer, two doubles, five RBI, three steals and three runs in 14 games in May. Collins hasn't really moved the needle much in fantasy with a .238 average (19-for-80) with a homer, six RBI and four steals.

Jake Bauers In Starting Lineup Against Giants

Milwaukee Brewers first baseman Jake Bauers is making the start at first base and is batting fifth for Thursday's series finale against the San Francisco Giants and right-hander Landen Roupp at Oracle Park. With Jackson Chourio getting the day off, Christian Yelich is in left field and Rhys Hoskins is serving as the designated hitter, opening up first base for Bauers. The 29-year-old Bauers will be making only his sixth start of the season for the Brew Crew in the matinee affair. Although he hasn't seen much playing time so far in 2025, Bauers has swing the bat well, going 7-for-25 (.280) with two home runs, five RBI, five runs scored and a stolen base. The former seventh-rounder of the San Diego Padres in 2013 has one hit in just two career at-bats against Roupp.

Jake Bauers, Isaac Collins Make Opening Day Roster

Milwaukee Brewers outfielder/first baseman Jake Bauers and outfielder Isaac Collins have made the team's Opening Day roster, according to MLB.com's Adam McCalvy. Bauers, 29, hit .263 (10-for-38) with four doubles, three home runs, nine RBI and two stolen bases in 15 Cactus League games to earn a spot as a bench bat for the Brew Crew to open the 2025 season. The left-handed hitter does provide a little pop -- he has 51 long balls and 183 RBI in five major-league seasons -- but he swings and misses too much to provide a useful average, and he will need some injuries to occur to see regular playing time. Bauers will provide depth at first, in the outfield and at designated hitter. Collins, 27, will be another utility player for Milwaukee with the ability to play outfield, second and third base. He had an .861 OPS with 14 homers and 24 steals in 2024 for Triple-A Nashville.

Jake Bauers Firmly In The Mix For Opening Day Roster Spot

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel's Curt Hogg doesn't think that enough people are giving Milwaukee Brewers first baseman Jake Bauers a realistic shot at making the Opening Day roster in 2025. Rhys Hoskins shouldn't be seen as a lock for everyday playing time at first base, and Tyler Black's shaky defense will be under a microscope in spring training. The 29-year-old Bauers will be on a non-roster invite at spring training after re-signing to a minor-league deal this offseason. The left-handed hitter appeared in 116 games for the Brew Crew last year but hit only .199/.301/.361 with a below-average .662 OPS, 12 home runs, 43 RBI, a career-high 13 stolen bases and 45 runs scored in 346 trips to the plate. Bauers has a career strikeout rate over 30%, so he's not going to hit for average, but he his decent power/speed profile could be interesting if he makes a decent amount of starts at first base against right-handed pitching in 2025.

Jake Bauers, Bryse Wilson Become Free Agents

Milwaukee Brewers first baseman/outfielder Jake Bauers and right-hander Bryse Wilson both cleared waivers on Monday and were outrighted to Triple-A Nashville. Both Bauers and Wilson were arbitration-eligible but will become free agents after being cast off the team's 40-man roster. Bauers matched his previous career-high of 12 home runs and also drove in 43 and stole a career-high 13 bases in 116 games in 2024 in his first year in Milwaukee, but he also hit just .199 with a .301 on-base percentage, .361 slugging percentage and below-average .662 OPS. He's now hit only .208 in five big-league seasons with five different teams. Wilson, 26, served as a swingman for Milwaukee this year, going 5-4 with a 4.04 ERA and 1.27 WHIP with a career-high 82 K's and 31 walks in 104 2/3 frames over his 34 outings (nine starts).
