Kris Bubic Attracting Trade Interest

Kansas City Royals All-Star left-hander Kris Bubic is attracting trade interest from multiple teams, league sources told The Athletic's Will Sammon. People familiar with the Royals' thinking are saying that the team is "open to the possibility of dealing Bubic" as they look to bolster their offense. The 28-year-old southpaw is a year away from reaching free agency and is projected to make $6 million in 2026 in his final year of salary arbitration. He missed most of the second half of the season with a left rotator-cuff strain, but he was strong before that, posting a 2.55 ERA (2.89 FIP) with 116 strikeouts and 39 walks in 20 starts over 116 1/3 innings. Despite not featuring a ton of velocity, Sammon writes that some rival evaluators are "bullish on his outlook" after he overhauled his repertoire to add a sweeper while improving his fastball and changeup. It's not a lock that KC trades Bubic this offseason, but he's more likely to be moved than Cole Ragans, Michael Wacha, or Seth Lugo.

Kris Bubic Cleared to Begin a Throwing Program

Kansas City Royals left-hander Kris Bubic (shoulder) has been cleared to begin an offseason throwing program, according to MLB.com. Bubic's 2025 season ended early in late July due to a left rotator-cuff strain, but he thankfully avoided having to go under the knife. The 28-year-old southpaw should be ready for the start of the 2026 season, but his shoulder injury will make him much more of a risk in fantasy drafts next spring. Before his rotator-cuff injury, though, Bubic made his first career All-Star team by going 8-7 with a career-best 2.55 ERA (2.90 FIP) and 1.18 WHIP with a career-high 116 strikeouts and 39 walks in 116 1/3 innings over 20 starts for the Royals. If not for his shoulder injury, Bubic was well on his way to a breakout campaign in his sixth year in the majors. In his 117 big-league appearances (80 starts), Bubic has a 4.14 ERA, 1.40 WHIP, and a below-average 21.9% strikeout rate.

Kris Bubic Done for the Season

Kansas City Royals starting pitcher Kris Bubic (shoulder) will miss the rest of the regular season, according to manager Matt Quatraro. Bubic was placed on the 15-day injured list after being diagnosed with a left rotator cuff strain on Sunday. Sadly, there isn't enough time for Bubic to heal up and return to the mound this season. He'll end his terrific season with a 2.55 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, and a 116/39 K/BB ratio across 20 starts. The Royals believe Bubic will be fine in time for the beginning of next season. The Royals haven't announced who is going to take over the spot in the starting rotation.

Kris Bubic Heads to 15-Day Injured List

The Kansas City Royals announced that they have placed left-hander Kris Bubic (shoulder) on the 15-day injured list with a strained rotator cuff. The team recalled right-hander Jonathan Bowlan from Triple-A Omaha to take Bubic's roster spot. Bubic started a 6-4 loss to the Cleveland Guardians on Saturday and exited with shoulder discomfort after allowing four runs (three earned) on three hits and four walks over 2 2/3 innings. It was a rare poor performance for Bubic, who spent last year as a reliever and has been a revelation since moving back into the rotation this season. The first-time All-Star has gone 8-7 with a 2.55 ERA, a 1.18 WHIP, and 116 strikeouts against 39 walks in 116 1/3 innings. While losing Bubic is a major blow to a KC team that's vying for a playoff spot, the club figures to be extra cautious with the 27-year-old during his recovery. He's already just 14 innings from tying the career-high 130 he amassed in 2021.

Kris Bubic Dealing with Shoulder Soreness

Kansas City Royals starting pitcher Kris Bubic (shoulder) could be headed to the injured list after suffering an injury during Saturday's outing. Bubic gave up four runs (three earned) while walking four batters over 2 innings of work on Saturday. Afterwards, Bubic mentioned that he's dealing with some shoulder stiffness. This is reportedly something that has bothered Bubic for quite some time. It's worth noting that Bubic has thrown well over 100 innings this season after tossing a total of 46.1 innings during each of the previous two seasons combined. This could be a shoulder fatigue issue that requires Bubic to get some rest. Fantasy managers should check back for another update on his status.

Kris Bubic Struggles Against the Yankees

Kansas City Royals starting pitcher Kris Bubic has been putting together a strong season in his return to the Royals' rotation, but Wednesday wasn't one of his best days. He gave up six hits and five runs to the visiting Yankees while issuing four free passes and striking out a season-low three batters. He had only allowed a total of three runs in his previous six starts combined, posting a 0.69 ERA and 2.04 FIP in 39 1/3 innings during that run. He has struggled in each of his two starts against the Bronx Bombers, who have scored almost half the earned runs he has allowed all season. Despite his rough outing, he still has a 1.92 ERA and 2.56 FIP on the year, and he'll look to shake off Wednesday's disappointing result in his next start, which is currently scheduled to be next Tuesday in Texas in a much more favorable situation.

Kris Bubic Pitches Great in Loss to Tigers

Kansas City Royals left-hander Kris Bubic (5-3) suffered his third loss of the season in a 1-0 decision against the Detroit Tigers on Sunday. A lack of run support cost Bubic, who turned in another gem with seven innings of one-run ball. He allowed a mere four hits and racked up nine strikeouts against two walks. It was the fifth straight quality start for the 27-year-old, who hasn't allowed more than one run in a game since April 27. The Royals' decision to move Bubic back to their starting rotation after he functioned as a reliever last season has worked brilliantly. Bubic has provided the club Cy Young-caliber production with a sparkling 1.43 ERA and 79:22 K:BB in 75 1/3 frames this year, making him a must-start for fantasy managers. He has a juicy matchup against the Chicago White Sox on Saturday. Bubic held them scoreless over seven innings in a 10-0 win back on May 8.

Kris Bubic Looks Sharp in No-Decision

Kansas City Royals starting pitcher Kris Bubic continued his excellent start to the season versus the Minnesota Twins on Sunday. The left-hander tossed seven innings, allowing one earned run on two hits, while striking out nine batters in the no-decision. Bubic gave up a run in the opening frame, but was basically unhittable after that. The 27-year-old has been one of the biggest surprises in the league through the first two months of the season. He'll take a 1.45 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, and 70/20 K/BB ratio into his next start versus the Detroit Tigers. Bubic might put himself in the CY Young race if he continues pitching at this level.

Kris Bubic Goes Seven Scoreless Innings Against San Francisco

Kansas City Royals starting pitcher Kris Bubic tossed seven scoreless innings in Monday's 3-1 win over the San Francisco Giants. He allowed two hits, issued three free passes, and struck out five, improving to 5-2. The Stanford product was dealing in this one, cruising through 5 2/3 scoreless -- and hitless -- before second baseman Michael Massey let a Wilmer Flores grounder slip through the infield. For what it's worth, it initially appeared to be an error, but it was not ruled as such. Still, it was another excellent outing for Bubic, who has yielded one earned run or fewer in four straight starts and five of his last six. He'll boast a minuscule 1.47 ERA and 1.06 WHIP (61 1/3 innings) into his next outing, which projects to come this weekend on the road against the Minnesota Twins.

Kris Bubic Strikes Out Nine On Tuesday

Kansas City Royals left-hander Kris Bubic threw a quality start in his team's 2-1 loss to the Houston Astros on Tuesday. Bubic allowed one run on six hits over 6 1/3 innings of work while walking one. The southpaw notched nine strikeouts on an impressive 22 swinging strikes in the start. Bubic is off to a great start in 2025, posting a 4-2 record, 1.66 ERA, 1.10 WHIP, and 56 strikeouts over 54 1/3 innings of work. He has developed into a must-start in fantasy as he gears up for his next start, which is set for Monday against the San Francisco Giants.
