Thayron Liranzo Goes Deep, Extends Hitting Streak to Seven Games

Detroit Tigers catching prospect Thayron Liranzo went 2-for-5 with a home run during their contest against Double-A Harrisburg on Friday evening. This performance extended his current hitting streak to an impressive seven games. During this stretch, the No. 88-ranked prospect in baseball on MLB.com has posted a .379/.438/.586 slash line with two home runs and a 5:3 K:BB. After spending the entire 2024 campaign at the High-A level, the backstop was given the green light ot open the 2025 season with Double-A. Through 57 games with Double-A, Liranzo has held a .236/.359/.418 slash line with 10 home runs. Last season at High-A, Liranzo held a similar .244/.378/.408 line. Fantasy managers should expect the 22-year-old to remain at Double-A during most of the second half.

Thayron Liranzo Homers in Third Straight Game

Detroit Tigers catching prospect Thayron Liranzo went 2-for-4 with a walk, a double, a home run, two RBI, and two runs scored for Double-A Erie on Tuesday. It was the third straight game with a home run for the Tigers' fifth-ranked prospect, now with seven on the season. The switch-hitting backstop got off to a poor start this year, batting .178 (16-for-90) over his first 26 games, however, he's picked it up recently, hitting .323 (10-for-31) in his last eight. He's also cut down on his strikeout rate, posting a 22.2 percent rate in the last eight contests compared to a 35.1 percent rate in the first 26. Getting on base via the walk has always been in his profile, boasting a 16.4 percent walk rate throughout his minor league career. If the 21-year-old can put it all together for the rest of the season, he should reach Triple-A later this year and could be making his big league debut next year at some point. He's got big power and a keen eye, but needs work defensively, and with Dillon Dingler hitting well in the big leagues as well as fourth-ranked Tigers prospect Josue Briceno knocking the cover off of the ball, he could have some competition for playing time.

Thayron Liranzo Homers, Drives In Three In Four-Hit Day

Fresh off winning the Arizona Fall League (AFL) Fall Stars game MVP, Detroit Tigers catching prospect Thayron Liranzo continued that momentum in his first game back with the Scottsdale Scorpions on Tuesday, going 4-for-5 with a solo home run, three RBI, and a run scored. The Tigers acquired Liranzo earlier this season in the Jack Flaherty trade and has impressed with his new club. After a strong showing at High-A West Michigan, the young backstop now owns a .375/.492/.667 slashline over 15 games in the AFL and has shown a patient eye, walking more than he is striking out (11:9 BB:K). With just a couple of games left in the AFL regular season, it appears the 21-year-old has made a strong case to begin next season at Double-A and perhaps make a push toward Triple-A with some continued success. He likely won't be in a Tigers uniform until 2026 or beyond, but a switch-hitting offensive catcher is something dynasty managers would be wise to keep an eye on.

Thayron Liranzo Earns AFL Fall Stars MVP Honors

Detroit Tigers catching prospect Thayron Liranzo was not a starter in the Arizona Fall League (AFL) Fall Stars game, in fact, he received just one at-bat, but he made the most of it by hitting a go-ahead solo home run in the top of the ninth inning, putting the AL squad ahead 6-5. It would prove to be the game-winner as the game ended 6-5, and the home run would earn Liranzo MVP honors. The switch-hitter came over to the Tigers earlier this year in the trade that would send Jack Flaherty to the Dodgers. Since then, the 21-year-old has hit well, slashing .315/.470/.562 in 26 games at High-A West Michigan, parlaying that success to the AFL by slashing .326/.463/.581 in 14 games for the Scottsdale Scorpions. He's a few years away from the bigs but dynasty managers should begin to take notice.

Thayron Liranzo Rolling At High-A West Michigan

Detroit Tigers catcher/first base prospect Thayron Liranzo has caught on nicely with his new organization and was just named Midwest League Hitter of the Week. Since coming over to the Tigers at the trade deadline from the Dodgers, Liranzo is hitting .396/.547/.771 with High-A West Michigan. He has four homers and 13 RBI in 15 games with his new club. The 21-year-old was a centerpiece of the deal that sent starting pitcher Jack Flaherty to L.A. The Dominican Republic native has slotted in as the No. 6 prospect with the Tigers and offers plenty of potential as a catcher-eligible fantasy prospect. He may be one to keep an eye on.

Tigers Acquire Thayron Liranzo In Deal With Dodgers

The Detroit Tigers acquired catcher/first baseman Thayron Liranzo and shortstop Trey Sweeney from the Los Angeles Dodger on Tuesday in the deal that sent right-hander Jack Flaherty to LA, according to sources familiar with the deal. It's considered an underwhelming return for the Tigers relative to other deals for starting pitchers at this year's trade deadline, although Liranzo was the Dodgers' No. 8 prospect, per MLB Pipeline. The 21-year-old signed for $30,000 out of the Dominican in 2021 and was hitting .220 with seven homers, 49 walks and 82 strikeouts in 74 games for High-A Great Lakes. The switch-hitter has plenty of upside due to his raw power, mainly from the left side. He also possesses a strong arm behind the plate but needs work on his blocking. At best, Liranzo could be an option for his big-league debut in Detroit in 2026.

Thayron Liranzo Hits Two More Homers In High-A

Los Angeles Dodgers catcher prospect Thayron Liranzo went 2-for-5 with a pair of solo homers for High-A Great Lakes on Sunday. He is now hitting .219 with five homers and 14 RBI over the team's first 31 games. Liranzo is the No. 9 prospect in the Dodgers system and has been off to a hot start on the farm this season. The 20-year-old had a strong season in Single-A in 2023, where he led the league in homers, OPS, slugging, total bases and extra base-hits. Liranzo's defense is questionable, so a position change could be in his future, but the switch-hitter provides plenty of power from both sides of the plate, especially the left side. That power should continue to improve as his body is still growing and Liranzo continues to learn how to launch the ball off his bat. Liranzo is years away from his big-league debut, but managers in dynasty leagues would be wise to keep tabs on the young prospect.
