Derwin James Will Need A Huge Game

Los Angeles Chargers rookie safety Derwin James has been the true face of the defense. James is a safety by trade, but hes played every position this season except nose tackle. He leads the team in tackles, hes tied for the lead in interceptions, and hes fourth in sacks. Hes also one of the reasons why the Chargers are the fifth-best defense in football over the last four weeks. Unfortunately, they still shouldnt be run out there by fantasy owners this week. Its not that LAs defense isnt good. Its that theyre facing the top scoring offense in the league. James and his crew will need to play exceptionally well to escape KC with a win, and fantasy owners need to look somewhere else this week to get their own wins.

Derwin James Leads A Strong Nickel Package

Los Angeles Chargers rookie safety Derwin James has taken the league by storm so far, and his presence has helped the team have one of the best nickel packages in the game. The Chargers are allowing just 4.9 yards per play when in a nickel defense, third-best in the NFL, and they get to face rookie Baker Mayfield this week. While LA's defense as a whole has had some struggles because they're missing their best player, Joey Bosa, James has helped make a world of difference in the secondary and looks like he's going to be an elite player for years to come. Expect him to find a way to make a big impact in Cleveland.

Derwin James Carrying High Hopes From Coaches

Los Angeles Chargers safety Derwin James may just be a rookie first-round draft pick, but his defensive coaches are already heaping praise on him about his football IQ before Week 2 of the preseason has come along. James was a late starter in training camp, but his play in the first preseason game seemed confident and intelligent. James commented to reporters after the game that he didn't feel like the pro level was too fast for him, and the team will be leaning on him to help cement a defense that lost one of its stars in the first day of camp. With the Chargers pass rush in place, James could be just what the team needed to run a killer defense out there.
