Jalen Hurts News
Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman said at the NFL owners meetings on Monday that the team would like to sign quarterback Jalen Hurts to a contract extension "relatively soon." Roseman reiterated multiple times that getting Hurts on a long-term deal remains a priority. "We want him here long-term. It's going to be a priority for us to extend him...You have to navigate the offseason understanding that we're not going to lose our franchise quarterback with one year left on his deal," Roseman said. The former second-round pick is heading into the final year of his deal, but he'll almost certainly work something out with the Eagles to keep him around long term. After leading Philly to the cusp of a Super Bowl championship, Hurts will be one of the first QBs off the board in fantasy drafts this fall.
Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts is heading into his final season of his rookie contract. That being said, the organization is hopeful to reach an agreement on an extension with Hurts this offseason. ESPN's Dan Graziano believes Hurts could get $50 million or more per year from the Eagles. The 24-year-old does not have a fifth-year option because he was a second-round pick. That means, the Eagles are likely to get a deal done sooner rather than later before the price tag goes any higher. Hurts put together an MVP-like performance this past season. He is certainly deserving of a significant pay raise, but $50 million per season is a tough cap hit. It'll be interesting to see what happens over the course of the offseason.
Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts became a top-tier signal-caller last season. He was in the MVP conversation all year, so naturally, the organization would love to keep him around. General manager Howie Roseman chimed in on the situation, stating that the team has a "good sense" of what it will take to keep Hurts on the roster while adding, "Obviously, we want to keep our best players here for the long term, and he's certainly one of our best players." Hurts, who is eligible to sign a contract extension this offseason, finished the 2022-23 campaign with 3,701 passing yards, 22 touchdowns, and six interceptions. He was also potent on the run, amassing 760 yards and 13 touchdowns off 165 attempts. Nevertheless, it's still early in the negotiation process, with talks likely to intensify in the coming months. However, the 24-year-old will be the first quarterback taken in many fantasy drafts ahead of Week 1 in September, regardless of the outcome of contract talks.
