Eli Stowers the Tight End of the Future in Philadelphia?

Philadelphia Eagles tight end Eli Stowers might not take on a large role during his rookie season, but he has a strong chance to develop into the team's eventual No. 1 option at the position. The Eagles recently brought back Dallas Goedert on a one-year deal, paving the way for him to hit free agency next offseason. Stowers will operate behind Goedert this year, serving as an intriguing fantasy handcuff. Then, when Goedert presumably departs, Stowers could step up as the primary tight end in Philadelphia. He's no stranger to a large workload, as he caught 111 passes for 1,407 yards and two touchdowns across two seasons at Vanderbilt. Although he's not the top rookie tight end in fantasy football this year and he won't make an immediate impact, he certainly has top-10 upside in dynasty leagues because of his potential to contribute long-term.

Eagles Select Eli Stowers at No. 54 Overall

The Philadelphia Eagles have selected Vanderbilt tight end prospect Eli Stowers with the 54th overall selection in the 2026 NFL Draft. Stowers is just the second tight end selected so far this year, as well as the first to hear his name called on Day 2. There had been rumblings of the Vandy product being a first-round pick, but he ended up going near the middle of the second. The 23-year-old caught 111 passes for 1,407 yards and nine touchdowns over his final two seasons at school. He'll offer the Eagles a long-term solution at the tight end position with Dallas Goedert slated to hit free agency (and widely expected to sign elsewhere) next offseason. Stowers might not have much redraft appeal as long as Goedert is healthy and on the team, but he could jump onto the weekly fantasy radar in 2027. Plus, he's an appealing dynasty option in this successful Eagles offense, ranking as the overall TE15 in RotoBaller's latest dynasty fantasy football rankings.

Can Eli Stowers Sneak Into the First Round of the NFL Draft?

Vanderbilt tight end prospect Eli Stowers continues to trend upward ahead of this week's NFL Draft. The latest aggregate mock draft data from NFLMockDraftDatabase.com has a consensus ranking of Stowers as the #48 overall prospect, which is a significant increase from his ranking at #103 back in January. He's a projected second-round pick, but there's a chance that he could be selected late in the first round. One team that has been consistently linked to Stowers in mock drafts is the New England Patriots, who pick 31st overall. New England reportedly plans to exit the draft with a reliable pass-catching tight end, and Stowers fits that description. The Vandy product caught 111 passes for 1,407 yards and nine touchdowns over his final two seasons at school. He's the only player in RotoBaller's second tier of rookie tight ends, and he ranks as the overall TE15 in the latest dynasty fantasy football rankings.

Patriots Targeting Eli Stowers in the NFL Draft?

The Athletic's Chad Graff writes that one of the few certainties in this year's 2026 NFL draft for the New England Patriots is that they will "exit with a tight end who is a strong receiver." The Patriots desperately need a pass-catching complement to the all-around play of Hunter Henry and the blocking prowess of Julian Hill. Vanderbilt TE Eli Stowers "would check that box in a big way," according to Graff. The Patriots last drafted a TE within the first two rounds back in 2010, when they took Rob Gronkowski. Henry is entering the final year of his contract in 2026. Stowers has some work to do as a blocker as he heads to the next level, but he could give New England a mismatch weapon in the passing game alongside Henry this year. Austin Hooper served as the pass-catching complement to Henry last year, but he left in free agency to rejoin the Atlanta Falcons. Stowers profiles as a joker tight end in the NFL, and he's generally projected to be a Day 2 pick in the second or third round, but there's a chance he could sneak into the first round this Thursday night.

Eli Stowers Offers Long-Term Dynasty Upside

Vanderbilt tight end Eli Stowers is considered one of the top tight ends in the 2026 draft class and should come off the board at some point on Day 2 of the upcoming 2026 draft. Across 12 games for the Commodores in 2025, the 23-year-old recorded 62 receptions for 769 yards and four touchdowns. With a 45.5" vertical jump, Stowers also profiles as an elite athlete at the tight end position. His blocking ability is considered a major weak point in his game, which could be a reason why he might slip down the draft board. Stowers might also struggle to earn a true lead tight end role in the NFL right away without rapid improvement as a blocker. Still, he offers clear upside due to his athleticism and has already shown the ability to produce as a receiver. Stowers currently profiles as the second-best dynasty tight end in first-year player pools, behind only Kenyon Sadiq.

Eli Stowers Visiting With Broncos

Vanderbilt tight end Eli Stowers is on a top-30 pre-draft visit with the Denver Broncos on Tuesday, a source told Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network. Stowers is one of the upcoming draft's top tight ends, and he set a tight end combine record with a 45.5-inch vertical jump. The 22-year-old visited with the Los Angeles Rams, Tennessee Titans, and Dallas Cowboys recently. He is a converted quarterback who played college ball at Texas A&M and New Mexico. Stowers won the Mackey Award in 2025 after he posted 62 catches for 769 yards and four touchdowns in his final collegiate season. There is plenty of improvement that Stowers can make in terms of his blocking prowess, but his combine numbers speak for themselves in terms of his pure athleticism on a football field. Stowers is expected to be the second TE off the board later this month behind Oregon's Kenyon Sadiq. Current Broncos TE Evan Engram's role could decline even further in 2026 if Stowers joins Denver.

Should Eli Stowers Be the First Tight End Selected in Dynasty Rookie Drafts?

Among one of the deepest classes of tight end prospects in recent history, Vanderbilt's Eli Stowers stands out for his rare athleticism. While Oregon's Kenyon Sadiq made headlines with his 4.39-second 40-yard dash, it was Stowers whose historic Combine testing allowed him to register an unofficial Relative Athletic Score of 9.46, a 95th percentile mark for the position. Sadiq will almost certainly be the first tight end selected in the NFL Draft, likely to hear his name called in the middle part of the first round, while Stowers profiles as more of a mid-Day 2 pick. However, part of what makes Sadiq an attractive NFL prospect doesn't necessarily translate to fantasy. He is a willing and sturdy blocker who won't look out of place in a game trending towards heavier personnel packages as an answer to more two-high shells. Stowers, on the other hand, plays more of a jumbo slot role and has reportedly been evaluated as a wide receiver by several teams. He could become an immediate target-earner in the mold of a Harold Fannin Jr., and while there's little doubt as to who will be the first tight end selected into the NFL, dynasty rookie drafts do not necessarily need to follow suit.

Eli Stowers' Athleticism Should Not be Overshadowed

Vanderbilt tight end Eli Stowers is a former track star, and while it was the presumed TE1 in this rookie class, Kenyon Sadiq, who drew most of the headlines from the NFL Combine, he wasn't the only one entering the record books. Stowers broke the Combine tight end record with an 11'-3" broad jump, while his 45.5" vertical set the new historical high mark across all positions. A former college quarterback, Stowers is still relatively new to the position, but he understands coverages, and he has the collegiate production to match his athleticism. Unlike Sadiq, his improving but still sub-par blocking will likely keep him off the field near the low red zone, but his size and movement ability will allow for a creative playcaller to utilize him in the increasingly popular big slot role. In the right landing spot, Stowers could work his way into the back end of the first round in single-QB and tight end premium rookie drafts.

Eli Stowers Breaks Draft Combine Tight End Vertical Jump Record

Vanderbilt University tight end Eli Stowers set the all-time NFL Draft combine vertical jump record at his position by leaping 45.5 inches. Stowers also led all tight ends in the broad jump with a mark of 11'3". Stowers, who will turn 23 years old in April, began his college career as a quarterback at Texas A&M. After a brief stop at New Mexico State in 2023, Stowers finished his career with two productive pass-catching seasons at Vanderbilt. Across 12 games with the Commodores in 2025, he hauled in 62 receptions for 769 yards and four touchdowns. Stowers projects as a likely day two selection in the upcoming NFL Draft. He may not land in a fantasy-relevant role as a rookie, but Stowers' dynasty value should be marginally improved by his impressive athletic testing at the combine.
