Jonathan Jones News
The New England Patriots chose not to franchise tag standout cornerback Jonathan Jones by the deadline on Tuesday, which means he'll hit the open market on March 15. However, the Patriots have interest in re-signing him. New England will have plenty of competition to retain his services after the 29-year-old had a career year in 2022 in his seventh season with the team. In 16 starts, Jones accumulated 69 tackles (56 solo), a career-high four interceptions (one returned for a TD), 11 passes defensed and three forced fumbles. He has racked up 330 tackles (262 solo), 11 interceptions, 44 passes defensed and eight forced fumbles in 101 career games (43 starts) to this point in his career.
New England Patriots cornerback Jonathan Jones (shoulder) is scheduled for season-ending shoulder surgery on Monday, according to a source. Jones landed on Injured Reserve last week and was expected to miss considerable time, but the Patriots secondary will now miss him for the rest of the season. The 28-year-old will finish 2021 with 20 tackles (15 solo), an interception and three passes defensed as New England's primary slot cornerback. In his six games played, Jones played 54% of the defensive snaps. Moving forward, slot receivers could have a big advantage when facing the Patriots defense, so keep that in mind when deciding fantasy matchups.
New England Patriots cornerback Jonathan Jones (shoulder) has already been ruled out for Week 7 against the New York Jets, and the team is bracing for the possibility of being without him for an extended period of time, according to sources. In his sixth season with the Pats, Jones has played 54% of the defensive snaps through six games and has 18 tackles, three passes defensed and one interception. New England will most likely turn to second-year corner Myles Bryant on Sunday after he was signed from the practice squad on Tuesday. D'Angelo Ross is another option on the practice squad. Jones' injury makes the Patriots thin at the position after they traded Stephon Gilmore to the Carolina Panthers on Oct. 6. Rookie Shaun Wade (concussion) will also miss his third straight game this weekend.
