Andy Dalton News
The Chicago Bears have confirmed two things to the media on Friday: that quarterback Andy Dalton will start for the team and that head coach Matt Nagy will call plays. The Dalton news isn't a surprise, as the expectation as soon as he was brought in seemed to be that he'd be the starting QB. Dalton's still a solid NFL passer and can be a solid fantasy QB2. As for the Nagy news, things could go either way in terms of how this impacts the Bears. Nagy led the team to some solid offensive numbers in the past as the playcaller, but last season gave up those duties because the team was ranked 29th in scoring.
The Chicago Bears confirmed on their official Twitter page on Wednesday that quarterback Andy Dalton will be the starter heading into the 2021 season by posting "QB1" and a picture of Dalton in a Bears uniform. The Bears moved on from Mitchell Trubisky this offseason but still have Nick Foles as a capable backup with plenty of experience. They'll give Dalton the first crack at things after he took over for an injured Dak Prescott in Dallas last year, throwing for 2,170 yards (64.9 completion percentage), 14 touchdowns and eight interceptions in 11 games (nine starts). The 33-year-old has had ups and downs in his career, mostly with Cincinnati, and can be a capable leader of an offense. However, the upside is minimal from a fantasy perspective, making him mostly an uninspiring QB2. Dalton could be good news for Allen Robinson II if the two can develop chemistry this summer.
Chicago Bears quarterback Andy Dalton said he's been told that he's the starter. The Bears signed Dalton to a one-year, $10 million deal earlier this week, and he's expected to be the starter after the failed Nick Foles experiment in 2020. Former second overall pick Mitchell Trubisky signed with the Buffalo Bills to back up Josh Allen on Thursday. So as things stand right now, Dalton is in the driver's seat to star under center in 2021. But Chicago made an aggressive pursuit of Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson and could make a play for Houston Texans QB Deshaun Watson. Dalton is no longer in his prime and is more of a game manager, so he won't have much upside as a QB2, and he could have a pretty short leash if he struggles early in the year.
