Jihaad Campbell to Begin at Inside Linebacker

Philadelphia Eagles rookie first-round linebacker Jihaad Campbell (shoulder), who didn't fully take part in the offseason program after having shoulder surgery in March, will start at inside linebacker since "there's a lot more to learn there," according to defensive coordinator Vic Fangio. There's an opportunity for Campbell to carve out a substantial role once he's cleared to play in August with Nakobe Dean (knee) out for the foreseeable future due to a torn patellar tendon. "He's doing all he can in meetings; we're doing all we can with him on the field. I take him to the side and do an individual drill with him that's suited to what he can do right now," Fangio said. "So, he's working good and trying to pick it up." The Eagles have had great success with rookie defenders recently, but the 21-year-old Campbell has already missed valuable development time.

Jihaad Campbell Won't Practice Until August

Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Jihaad Campbell (shoulder) will not take the field for practice until "sometime in August," according to defensive coordinator Vic Fangio. The rookie first-round pick out of Alabama is recovering from shoulder surgery to repair a torn labrum and could start his professional season on the PUP (Physically Unable to Perform) list, meaning he'd have to miss at least the first four games of the regular season. Last season with the Tide, Campbell tallied 119 tackles (55 solo), five sacks, two forced fumbles, and an interception on his way to first-team All-SEC honors. With Philadelphia's front-seven loaded with talent, Campbell could be a minor contributor in 2025 before earning a bigger role in 2026. Patience will be key for IDP fantasy gamers and Eagles fans alike.

Jihaad Campbell Not Taking Part In Rookie Minicamp

Philadelphia Eagles rookie first-round linebacker Jihaad Campbell (shoulder) was not participating in the team's rookie minicamp on Friday while he recovers from offseason shoulder surgery. It's no surprise that Campbell isn't ready to take part in on-field work after he tore his labrum and had surgery in March. The defending Super Bowl champions have no reason to rush Campbell along as he gets ready for his first season in the NFL. However, as long as the 21-year-old doesn't suffer a setback during his recovery, he could be ready to go for the start of training camp at the end of July. The Eagles haven't put a timeline on the 31st overall pick in last week's NFL draft. When the Eagles broke off to position drills on Friday, Campbell went with the off-ball linebackers, which means he may not be viewed as a pure pass-rusher just yet.

Eagles Trade Up One Spot In First Round To Select Jihaad Campbell

The Philadelphia Eagles swapped late first-round picks with the Kansas City Chiefs and selected Alabama linebacker Jihaad Campbell with the No. 31 overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft on Thursday night. If not for shoulder injuries -- he had surgery to fix a torn labrum in March -- Campbell might have been a top-15 pick in this year's draft. The 21-year-old 6-foot-3, 235-pounder was still a first-team All-SEC selection in 2024 after he led the Crimson Tide with 117 tackles (11.5 for loss) and five sacks. He was also tied for the team lead with two forced fumbles and started all 13 games. Campbell is expected to be ready to roll for training camp this summer, at which point the Eagles will try to figure out where he'll fit best in their already strong defense. He has elite traits and physical talent and could be best utilized as a 3-4 rush linebacker.

Jihaad Campbell A Candidate To Start On PUP List

Alabama linebacker Jihaad Campbell (shoulder) had shoulder surgery after the NFL scouting combine in February, and teams are projecting him as a candidate to start his rookie season on the Physically Unable to Perform list in 2025, according to SI.com's Albert Breer. Before his labrum injury, the 21-year-old linebacker was considered a potential top-10 pick in this draft. Campbell's injury is definitely going to cause him to slide down the board in this year's draft, but a team seeking defensive help like the Cincinnati Bengals could find excellent value later on with Campbell. There's a good chance that Campbell will have to miss time early on in his first year in the NFL, but it doesn't mean that he won't have the ability to be a staple in the middle of a team's defense down the road. Even though he's injured, it's possible he'll still be taken in the first round on Thursday.
