Jaguars, Josh Allen Agree On Five-Year Extension

The Jacksonville Jaguars and pass-rusher Josh Allen agreed to a five-year, $150 million contract extension on Wednesday, according to a source. Allen is set to earn $88 million guaranteed as part of the deal. The Jaguars had placed the franchise tag on Allen before the start of free agency but now have locked the rising star into a long-term deal. The 26-year-old two-time Pro Bowler set a franchise record in 2023 by recording 17.5 sacks while adding 66 tackles (43 solo), 17 tackles for loss, 33 QB hits, one interception and two forced fumbles in 17 starts. The former seventh overall pick in 2019 out of Kentucky is one of the best young pass-rushers in the NFL and will be highly coveted on draft day in IDP fantasy formats at defensive line.

Jaguars To Use Franchise Tag On Josh Allen

The Jacksonville Jaguars are expected to place the franchise tag on pass-rusher Josh Allen on Tuesday by the deadline, according to a source. The team has expressed confidence in getting a long-term deal done with Allen by the deadline in mid-July, but if they can't, he'll be on the books for 2024 at $24 million. The 26-year-old has quickly become one of the best pass-rushers in football. Since being selected with the seventh overall pick in 2019 out of Kentucky, he has accumulated 45 sacks, 251 tackles (162 solo), 53 tackles for loss, 103 QB hits, two interceptions, eight passes defensed, nine forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries (one returned for a touchdown) in five seasons. Allen was the No. 5 defensive lineman in IDP fantasy leagues in 2023 with a career-high 17.5 sacks in 17 starts.

Jaguars Plan On Retaining Josh Allen

Jacksonville Jaguars general manager Trent Baalke said that pass-rusher Josh Allen, who is set to be an unrestricted free agent this March after posting 17.5 sacks (third in the NFL) in 2023, will be back in 2024. "Josh Allen is going to be a Jaguar next year," Baalke said. Negotiations between the two sides haven't started yet, but it's definitive Allen isn't going anywhere, and the franchise tag is available if the Jaguars need to use it. The former No. 7 overall pick now has 45 sacks in 74 career games for Jacksonville and has become of the best pass-rushers in the league, so it makes sense why the Jags are so adamant about not letting him hit the open market. The two-time Pro Bowler will most likely become one of the highest-paid pass-rushers in the NFL and will also be a high-end defensive lineman in IDP leagues in 2024.

Josh Allen Likely To Play Sunday For Jaguars

Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson said he expects linebacker Josh Allen (shoulder) has progressed well enough to likely play in Week 3 on Sunday against the Houston Texans. Allen suffered a shoulder injury in the Week 2 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs but was able to put in some limited practices so far this week. The Jaguars have gotten very little out of their pass rush through the first two weeks of the 2023 season, but Allen has been doing his part, producing 11 tackles (eight solo), three tackles for loss, three QB hits and three sacks in games against the Indianapolis Colts and Chiefs. The 26-year-old will be in play as a starting lineup option in IDP fantasy leagues this weekend if he's active on Sunday.

Jaguars Put Josh Allen, D.J. Hayden On Injured Reserve

The Jacksonville Jaguars placed defensive end Josh Allen (knee), cornerback D.J. Hayden (hamstring) and safety Daniel Thomas (arm) on Injured Reserve on Tuesday. Allen suffered a knee injury in the Week 11 loss to the Steelers, and while he'll miss at least three games, the injury wasn't considered too serious and he should have a chance to return before the end of the year. The 23-year-old seventh overall pick in 2019 was a Pro Bowler in his rookie season when he recorded 10.5 sacks. However, he's struggled this year as the team's primary pass-rushing threat, recording just 2.5 sacks and 13 combined tackles in eight games. An already weak Jacksonville defense just got a lot weaker with the losses of Allen and Hayden. You should avoid their defense at all costs in Week 12 against the Browns.

Jaguars Defense Loses Joshua Allen To Injury

Jacksonville Jaguars defensive end Joshua Allen (knee) is doubtful to return to Sunday's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers after suffering a knee injury. Losing Allen is significant for the Jaguars Defense. The 2019 first round pick has 13 tackles and 2.5 sacks on the year. The Steelers were already moving the ball well in the first half with Allen on the field this week and they should have an even easier time the rest of the way if Allen indeed remains sidelined.

Josh Allen Will Face More Of A Test In 2020

Jacksonville Jaguars edge-rushing linebacker Josh Allen had an incredible rookie season in 2019, being selected to the Pro Bowl with 54 total disruptions and 10.5 sacks. He had a disruption rate of 16.2 percent and a sack rate of 3.1 percent, but how much of his success had to do with fellow pass-rushers Calais Campbell and Yannick Ngakoue? Campbell is now playing in Baltimore after a trade and Ngakoue is disgruntled and wants to be traded. If Ngakoue leaves, too, Allen will have a tougher time putting up those kind of numbers in his second season. The 22-year-old seventh overall pick should still be a force to be reckoned with for years to come, but he might not be a weekly starter in IDP leagues just yet.

Josh Allen Unlikely To Take Part In Minicamp

Jacksonville Jaguars rookie defensive end Josh Allen (knee), who missed most of organized team activities with a knee bruise, is unlikely to take part in minicamp next week, according to head coach Doug Marrone. Ill probably just as safety hold him until hes ready for camp, Marrone said. Technically he could be ready to go next week. Left tackle Cam Robinson (knee), who missed 14 games last year with a torn ACL, is also unlikely to take part in minicamp. Allen was the No. 7 overall pick to the Jags, and he should make some noise on Jacksonville's talented defensive line in his rookie season. He should be good to go for training camp this summer.
