Browns
Cleveland Browns cornerback Greg Newsome II (shoulder) was a limited participant in practice for the second day in a row on Tuesday. Newsome is a solid young corner opposite Denzel Ward (ribs, ankle). With Ward also battling injuries and defensive end Myles Garrett (hip) finding his way onto the injury report on Tuesday, this Browns defense is very beat up. Newsome has not missed any games this season and his limited participation for two straight days suggests he will be able to play on Thursday night against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Browns' defense has struggled in 2024. While they are middle-of-the-road against the pass, they are the ninth-worst rushing defense. The Steelers should have no problem moving the ball on the ground and through the air on this defense in Week 12. With neither Newsome nor Ward playing at 100%, expect Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver George Pickens to receive plenty of opportunities for fantasy points in Week 12 in addition to running back Jaylen Warren and Najee Harris.

Greg Newsome Returns To Practice Wednesday
Cleveland Browns defensive back Greg Newsome (knee) got in a limited session in his team's practice on Wednesday. Newsome missed practice on Tuesday but is trending in the right direction as his team gears up to face off against the Houston Texans in the first round of the playoffs on Saturday. Newsome missed the regular-season finale against the Cincinnati Bengals so his return to the team would be a big boost as the Browns look to advance in the playoffs.

Greg Newsome Scores Touchdown On A Pick In Week 10 Win
Cleveland Browns cornerback Greg Newsome intercepted a Lamar Jackson pass that had been deflected and returned it for a fourth-quarter touchdown in the Browns' come-from-behind 33-31 victory over the Baltimore Ravens. The pick-six was just the first interception of Newsome's three-year career. His big game was made bigger with half a sack. He also made a pass defense. Besides the impact plays, however, Newsome did not make an impact with tackles. He only had one solo tackle and one assist. The last time Newsome had more than three combined tackles in a game was Week 6. Browns defensive players always have a shot at making plays. Browns quarterbacks always face heavy pressure. But Newsome should not be expected to be a top IDP starter most weeks.

Greg Newsome Ruled Out For Week 3
Cleveland Browns cornerback Greg Newsome (elbow) has been ruled out for the Week 3 contest on Sunday against the visiting Tennessee Titans. Newsome got hurt in the Monday night loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 2 and will now have to miss this weekend's game on a short week. The Browns will now need to replace the 23-year-old in the slot for a matchup with the Titans. The 26th overall pick of the 2021 draft out of Northwestern, Newsome had eight tackles (four solo) and a pass defensed in the first two games of the season. It remains to be seen if he'll be able to return in Week 4 for a matchup against the division-rival Baltimore Ravens.

Greg Newsome II Won't Miss Significant Time
Cleveland Browns defensive back Greg Newsome II (hamstring) won't be sidelined for long, according to head coach Kevin Stefanski. The 22-year-old hasn't practiced since Tuesday and sat out the preseason opener. Despite that, the Browns don't expect Newsome to miss Week 1 of the regular season. The former first round pick battled multiple injuries last season. Although, he still had success with 37 tackles and nine passes defended through 13 games. Fantasy managers who have the Browns defense rostered shouldn't be worried about Newsome missing significant time from this injury.

Browns Sign First-Round CB Greg Newsome II To A Four Year Deal
The Cleveland Browns officially signed rookie cornerback Greg Newsome II to a four-year deal after selecting him 26th overall in April's draft. Newsome was a three-year standout at Northwestern University, finishing top five in passes defensed among all Big Ten players in 2019 and 2020 while also receiving third-team All-American honors in 2020. Newsome figures to compete with Greedy Williams for starting snaps across from star corner Denzel Ward, and reviews about his performance in offseason workouts were strong. Expect Newsome to contribute significantly in 2021 even if he doesn't earn a starting outside corner job by week one.

Gregory Newsome II Taken By Browns At No. 26
The Cleveland Browns selected Northwestern cornerback Gregory Newsome II with the No. 26 overall pick in the first round of the 2021 NFL draft on Thursday night. He's the second Northwestern player to go in the first round this year. Newsome wasn't attacked much in coverage in college and must prove that he can stay healthy at the next level. He has great length, athleticism and recovery speed in the secondary. Newsome was glued to receivers in college and has the tools to be a pretty good lockdown cornerback, if he can stay healthy. He doesn't have excellent size, though, which could be a problem against big-bodied receivers in the NFL. Newsome is definitely more of a man-coverage guy.
