Cam Skattebo Not on Field on Obvious Passing Situations on Saturday

New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo carried the ball four times for 19 yards and went without a target in the team's 13-10 preseason loss to the Minnesota Vikings. Skattebo saw his first game action since suffering a compound fracture of his right leg in Week 8 of the 2025 season. Despite the quick turnaround to the 2026 season, the second-year back looked strong, breaking multiple tackles less than a year after the gruesome injury. However, a split was evident among running backs Tyrone Tracy Jr., Devin Singletary, and Skattebo. On the first two first-team drives, Tracy played seven of 16 plays, Skattebo played five, and Singletary played four. Skattebo also did not play in obvious passing-down situations, with Tracy handling most of the third-down work on Saturday. While the team is likely easing Skattebo back into football shape after a significant injury, fantasy managers should temper expectations, especially in the receiving game and early in the season.

Cam Skattebo Warming Up Behind Backup QB on Saturday

The New York Daily News' Pat Leonard reports that New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo is working behind backup quarterback Jameis Winston as the team prepares for their preseason opener on Saturday against the Minnesota Vikings. Meanwhile, RB Tyrone Tracy Jr. is working behind starting QB Jaxson Dart. Fantasy managers shouldn't panic from a note on preseason pre-game workouts, but this is a reminder that Skattebo isn't going to be a bell-cow back in the Big Apple in new head coach John Harbaugh's offense in his second year in the NFL, especially coming off a serious ankle/leg injury in 2025. The Giants also listed Skattebo and Tracy as co-starters on their initial preseason depth chart, so both RBs could have weekly fantasy value in 2026. RotoBaller has Skattebo ranked as the RB20 for 2026, with Tracy coming in at No. 44. The Giants will most likely ease Skattebo back into the fold during the preseason after his gruesome season-ending injury from a year ago.

Cam Skattebo and Tyrone Tracy Jr. Listed as Co-Starters

The New York Giants have released their first unofficial depth chart ahead of their preseason opener against the Vikings on Saturday, and running backs Cam Skattebo and Tyrone Tracy Jr. are listed as co-starters. The "or" designation is used a number of times across the depth chart, but running back is the only position on offense without a clear listed starter. Tracy began the 2025 season as the starting running back, but missed time to injury and was overtaken on the depth chart even upon his return, with Skattebo nearly doubling his snap count in Weeks 4 and 5 before an ankle injury ended his rookie season. Skattebo has operated as the clear lead back for much of training camp, making the co-starter listing somewhat unexpected, though it should have no bearing on his fantasy outlook, and he ranks as RotoBaller's RB20, a full 25 running back spots ahead of Tracy.

Cam Skattebo Doesn't Return to Friday's Practice After a Collision

New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo (leg) went down in training camp practice on Friday after a collision with linebacker Arvel Reese, according to Jordan Raanan of ESPN. Skattebo was seen stretching his left leg and didn't return to practice, although he stayed on the sideline. It's unclear what the severity of Skattebo's leg injury is, but it's definitely concerning after he suffered a season-ending right-ankle injury as a rookie in 2025 that consisted of an ankle dislocation, an open-tibia fracture, and a ruptured deltoid ligament. The 24-year-old entered camp as a full-go, and all expectations are that he will be the team's RB1 in new head coach John Harbaugh's offense in 2026, which is expected to be more run-heavy. We will closely monitor his new injury, and if it ends up being something that keeps him from playing in Week 1 against the division-rival Dallas Cowboys, Tyrone Tracy Jr.'s fantasy stock will skyrocket. RotoBaller has Skattebo ranked as the No. 20 RB in half-PPR fantasy leagues as he enters his sophomore campaign. UPDATE: Harbaugh said Skattebo's exit from practice on Friday is "nothing serious at all," per The Athletic's Dan Duggan.

Tyrone Tracy Jr. Can Still Matter in Giants Backfield

New York Giants running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. is no longer the favorite to lead the backfield, but he should not disappear behind Cam Skattebo. Tracy topped 1,000 scrimmage yards for the second straight season in 2025, rushing 176 times for 740 yards and adding 36 catches for 288 yards and two touchdowns. The receiving work is what keeps the door open. He has 74 catches through two NFL seasons and spent spring practices showing the new staff what he can do while Skattebo continued working back from his ankle injury. Skattebo is now back in camp and fits the physical identity John Harbaugh wants to build with Patrick Ricard and Greg Roman involved in the offense. He still looks like the stronger bet for early-down and goal-line work. That leaves room for Tracy, especially on passing downs and in a Giants offense that ranked among the league's top five in rushing last year. RotoBaller ranks Tracy RB43 in PPR, RB46 in half-PPR, and RB45 in dynasty. He is not a weekly starter while Skattebo is healthy, but he offers more than injury-only value in PPR leagues and becomes a much stronger play if the backfield opens up.

Cam Skattebo the Giants' Clear Lead Back

New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo has been the first player up in almost every running back drill through the early stages of training camp, and NFL insider Connor Hughes calls him the team's clear lead back. After starting his rookie season in a timeshare, Skattebo's run as the primary ball carrier lasted only a handful of games before a lower leg injury ended his 2025 campaign, but he has handled the majority of work through the opening practices of summer and should see heavy volume in his second season. Skattebo is RotoBaller's RB20, but his ADP could rise throughout the draft season as he distances himself from the gruesome season-ending injury, and he is a legitimate threat to finish as an RB1 in 2026.

Cam Skattebo and Tyrone Tracy "Competing for Everything"

New York Giants head coach John Harbaugh said on Saturday that both running backs, Cam Skattebo and Tyrone Tracy Jr., are "competing for everything at this point in time. Both those guys are going to play a lot." While both backs have produced and are legitimate starting options in the NFL, Skattebo is expected to have the edge at the start of the season. Before fracturing his ankle in Week 8, Skattebo was taking full control of the backfield, averaging 103.8 scrimmage yards and scoring six touchdowns in the five games before the injury. With the new coaching regime in New York for the 2026 season, whoever performs best early will earn more trust and likely a larger workload in the backfield. Both backs should be rostered, with Skattebo as a low-end RB2 and Tracy as a productive handcuff with upside to start in soft matchups.

Cam Skattebo is "Good to Go" for Training Camp

New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo (ankle) is "good to go" for the team's first training camp practice, according to team reporter Dan Salomone. Skattebo is coming back from a severe right ankle dislocation he suffered during Week 8 last season. The 24-year-old has had a smooth recovery and remains on track to be available for their season opener against the Dallas Cowboys. Skattebo's ADP has slowly been on the rise as the summer has progressed and will continue to do so as fantasy managers continue to see good reports from him during training camp. It is worth noting that return to play is different from return to performance. It could take a couple of weeks before Skattebo gets to full speed and confidence in his right ankle. Skattebo should continue to be viewed as a mid- to low-end RB2 in drafts while we get closer and closer to Week 1.

Cam Skattebo "Perfectly Fine" After Awkward Landing on Surgically Repaired Ankle

New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo (ankle) said he's "perfectly fine" after failing to land a backflip and appearing to land awkwardly on his surgically repaired right ankle during an appearance at Fanatics Fest on Saturday, according to ESPN. Skattebo said he's good and also promised to "not hurt myself before the season." The 24-year-old former fourth-rounder out of Arizona State last year had 101 rushing attempts for 410 yards and five touchdowns, adding 24 catches for 207 yards and another two scores through the air as a rookie in 2025 before suffering a gruesome season-ending dislocated right ankle and open tibia fracture in Week 8 against the division-rival Philadelphia Eagles. Despite the rough injury last year, Skattebo has made excellent progress in the offseason and is on track to be a full-go for training camp this summer as he heads into his second NFL season. Tyrone Tracy Jr. remains in New York's backfield for 2026, but as long as he's healthy, Skattebo figures to be the favorite for backfield touches in what should be a more ground-focused approach with new head coach John Harbaugh in town. The injury risk is real with Skattebo, but he should be a strong RB2 with upside for fantasy purposes if he can stay healthy in Year 2.

Cam Skattebo Expected to be Ready Early in Training Camp

New York Giants head coach John Harbaugh said that second-year running back Cam Skattebo (ankle) is expected to be ready to participate early in training camp this summer, according to ESPN. Harbaugh added that Skattebo is further ahead of receiver Malik Nabers (knee) "based on the type of injury." Skattebo suffered a season-ending dislocated ankle in Week 8 of his rookie season and required surgery, but he took part in some 11-on-11 team drills at mandatory minicamp in June. Barring a setback during training camp or the preseason, Skattebo is on track to be a full-go for the start of the 2026 regular season in Week 1 for a divisional showdown against the Dallas Cowboys. Tyronce Tracy Jr. and Devin Singletary are still in New York's backfield, but Skattebo, a fourth-rounder from Arizona State last year, has every intention of earning RB1 duties in his second season in an offense that should feature the run heavily under Harbaugh. Skattebo had 410 rushing yards and five touchdowns on 101 carries and added 24 receptions for 207 yards and two more scores in his eight games as a rookie, and RotoBaller has him ranked as the No. 20 fantasy RB going into the 2026 campaign.
