Cam Skattebo Drawing High Praise From New Head Coach

New York Giants head coach John Harbaugh described running back Cam Skattebo (ankle) as a "top-tier back," per Jordan Raanan of ESPN. A fourth-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, Skattebo collected 617 scrimmage yards and seven touchdowns on 125 touches across eight games as a rookie before suffering a season-ending ankle injury. Despite the injury, the 24-year-old is expected to be fully healthy and ready to go for the start of 2026. The Giants have solid depth at the running back position in the form of Tyrone Tracy Jr. and Devin Singletary. However, it appears as though Harbaugh and the rest of the new coaching staff in New York view Skattebo as the team's lead back. RotoBaller currently ranks Skattebo as the 19th-best running back for redraft leagues heading into 2026.

Cam Skattebo Confident he Can Return to Pre-Injury Form

New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo (ankle) thinks he will be ready to go in Week 1 of the 2026 regular season after last year's gruesome season-ending ankle injury in his rookie campaign, according to Bobby Kownack of NFL.com. "It ain't gonna change who I am," Skattebo said. "I had an injury, you know, it is what it is. I've still got plenty of football left, plenty of life left, I'm not going to let this little ankle thing bother me. I'm going to get back [to] running people over like you see on the videos. It's going to be normal Cam Skattebo from here on out." After the Giants selected him in the fourth round in 2025, the Arizona State product had 617 total yards and seven touchdowns before injuring his ankle in Week 8. The 24-year-old took part in 11-on-11 drills during mandatory minicamp last week and should do more in training camp this summer. The Giants should rely more heavily on the running back in new head coach John Harbaugh's first year in the Big Apple, which makes Skattebo an intriguing RB2 target in single-year fantasy leagues in 2026 with the upside for more. RotoBaller currently has him ranked as the No. 20 fantasy RB.

Cam Skattebo a "Tone-Setter" in Return from Injury

New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo brought an undeniable flash of excitement to the team's improving offense in 2025 before a gruesome ankle injury ended his rookie campaign. In the six games in which he handled a full workload, Skattebo averaged 17.4 half-PPR points per game and was the RB6 from Weeks 2 through 7. Having already cleared several major hurdles in his recovery and taking part in team drills, the second-year runner has made an impression on new head coach John Harbaugh, who recently referred to Skattebo as a "top-tier back" and a "tone-setter". Harbaugh was responsible for the league's most run-heavy offense in his final seasons in Baltimore, and if Skattebo can stay healthy without sacrificing the hard-running style that has defined his early career, he has legitimate league-winning upside.

Cam Skattebo Taking Part in 11-on-11 Reps at Minicamp

New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo (ankle) is taking live 11-on-11 reps at minicamp on Tuesday for the first time since suffering a gruesome dislocated ankle in Week 8 of his rookie season last year, according to Dan Duggan of The Athletic. Barring a setback, the 24-year-old former fourth-round pick out of Arizona State should be fully healthy for the start of training camp next month and the Week 1 regular-season opener in 2026 in September. Tyrone Tracy Jr. remains in New York, but Skattebo should be the Giants' primary early-down back in new head coach John Harbaugh's offense, which is expected to feature a bigger emphasis on the ground game. In eight games (five starts) before suffering his season-ending ankle injury in 2025, Skattebo averaged 4.1 yards per carry, 410 rushing yards, and five touchdowns on 101 carries while also catching 24 passes for 207 yards and another two scores. His fantasy stock for 2026 and beyond is on the rise, and Skattebo is currently ranked as the No. 20 RB in fantasy for the upcoming season.

Cam Skattebo Taking Part in Minicamp This Week

New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo (ankle) was seen doing drills on Monday for the first day of mandatory minicamp, eight months after fracturing his ankle, according to Jordan Raanan of ESPN. The 24-year-old former fourth-round pick last year out of Arizona State said last month that his goal is to be fully ready for the start of the 2026 regular season in Week 1 for a showdown on Sunday night against the division-rival Dallas Cowboys, and he's currently on track. Skattebo was limited to eight games in his rookie year due to a dislocated right ankle. Before getting hurt, he had taken over as New York's primary lead back and racked up 410 rushing yards and five touchdowns on 101 carries while adding 24 receptions (32 targets) for 207 receiving yards and two more touchdowns for the G-Men. Tyrone Tracy Jr. is still going to be involved in the backfield, but in a John Harbaugh-led offense that is expected to feature the run more, Skattebo should be a clear risk/reward RB2 target for fantasy managers as he enters his sophomore season.

Cam Skattebo Says he'll be Ready for Week 1

New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo (ankle) said that he will be ready to go for the team's Week 1 regular-season opener on Sept. 13 against the division-rival Dallas Cowboys after breaking his right fibula and dislocating his right ankle in his rookie campaign in 2025, according to Steven Whyno of The Associated Press. "I'm a little ways out. Not too far, but I'll be ready to go. Week 1, I'll be ready to go," Skattebo said. Both general manager Joe Schoen and head coach John Harbaugh said they hope that the second-year back is back at some point during training camp this summer. The former fourth-rounder out of Arizona State quickly became the Giants' RB1 in 2025 and rushed for 410 yards and five touchdowns on 101 carries before suffering his season-ending injury in Week 8 against the Philadelphia Eagles. Skattebo also had 24 catches for 207 yards and two touchdowns as a pass-catcher. Even if Tyrone Tracy Jr. remains involved, which he should be, the 24-year-old Skattebo is a rising fantasy football commodity in dynasty and redraft leagues in a Giants offense that should rely more on the ground game under Harbaugh. Skattebo is RotoBaller's No. 21 fantasy RB right now in single-year formats for 2026.

Cam Skattebo's Dynasty Stock Rising Following NFL Draft

A fourth-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo (ankle) had his rookie season cut short by a season-ending ankle injury in Week 8. However, the 24-year-old began to emerge as the lead back in New York before getting injured, recording 617 yards from scrimmage, seven touchdowns on 125 touches across eight games. While the Giants were rumored to be interested in the top backfield prospects in the 2026 draft, the team ultimately did not add a running back outside of undrafted free agent Damon Bankston. As a result, Skattebo profiles as New York's RB1 entering 2026, with Tyrone Tracy Jr. and Devin Singletary playing complementary roles. Skattebo's physical style of play heightens his risk of injury, but he's also flashed production upside as a three-down, workhorse. The Giants' run game as a whole should also be an improved unit after the team's selection of offensive lineman Francis Mauigoa in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft. As long as he can stay healthy, Skattebo offers top-24 upside at his position for dynasty managers.

Cam Skattebo's Role Survives the NFL Draft

New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo doesn't face any additional competition following the NFL Draft. There had been some speculation that the Giants could be a landing spot for Jeremiyah Love or another top running back prospect, but that never came to fruition. It appears that New York remains satisfied with a backfield of Skattebo, Tyrone Tracy Jr., and Devin Singletary. Now, the big question is whether Skattebo will be able to establish himself as the lead back in this offense. He looked like the future of the Giants' backfield in the first half of his rookie campaign last year, but a season-ending ankle injury changed the narrative. Tracy had a very strong second half of the season in his absence, and now, Skattebo will likely need to compete in camp to win the starting job over Tracy. Even if that happens, both backs will be heavily involved, so Skattebo will need to capitalize on all the touches he gets. Fortunately, he's both a physical runner and a capable receiver, so he can earn snaps on any down. After averaging 16.0 fantasy points (PPR) per game when healthy last season, Skattebo now finds himself as the RB22 in RotoBaller's latest dynasty fantasy football rankings.

Cam Skattebo in Attendance at Offseason Program

New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo (ankle) was in attendance on Tuesday for the start of the team's voluntary offseason workouts, according to Kevin Patra of NFL.com. Head coach John Harbaugh said that Skattebo is ahead of receiver Malik Nabers (knee) in his rehab, and it's possible that he'll be on the field for some workouts this spring. Nabers' timeline following ACL surgery is closer to training camp or the start of the 2026 regular season. The 24-year-old Skattebo suffered a dislocated right ankle in late October, which ended what was looking like a very promising first year in the NFL. Tyrone Tracy Jr. is still in New York's backfield, but when fully healthy, Skattebo figures to at least be the team's preferred choice on early downs and short-yardage and goal-line situations. The fourth-rounder out of Arizona State had 101 carries for 410 yards and five touchdowns while adding 24 receptions for 207 yards and another two scores in his first eight NFL games (five starts). All signs point to Skattebo being full-go for Week 1 of the regular season this fall.

Cam Skattebo Looks Ready to Go for OTAs

New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo (ankle) was seen at Arizona's pro day last Friday, and he looked ready to go for the start of organized team activities next week, according to general manager Joe Schoen. "[He was] jogging around, running, jumping on ex-teammates' backs and stuff like that. I said, Will you stop?" Schoen said. "But he's declaring himself he's ready to go. So it'll be good to see him next week as well. We'll ease him back. Obviously, we don't play until September, but he's in good headspace, physically as well." The Giants aren't going to rush the 24-year-old back after having season-ending surgery to fix a dislocated ankle, but all signs point to him being a full-go for training camp and for the start of the 2026 regular season in early September. Durability could be an issue for the battering ram of an RB, but the former fourth-rounder has RB1 fantasy upside in what looks like it could be an explosive offense going forward under dual-threat QB Jaxon Dart. Skattebo had 410 rushing yards and five touchdowns on 101 carries in eight games in 2025, adding 24 catches for 207 yards and two more scores as a receiver.
