Former New Orleans Saints cornerback Paulson Adebo has agreed to terms with the New York Giants, according to ESPN. Adebo was originally a third-round pick by New Orleans out of Stanford in 2021 and has compiled 254 tackles (209 solo), two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, 10 interceptions, and 43 pass deflections in 62 career games. The 25-year-old was limited to just seven games last season. Adebo joins a G-Men defense led by defensive coordinator Shane Bowen.
Paulson Adebo A Long Shot To Receive Franchise Tag
ESPN's Katherine Terrell writes that New Orleans Saints cornerback Paulson Adebo (leg), who is coming off a broken femur last year that required surgery, is a long shot to be franchise-tagged this offseason. Not only is Adebo coming off a pretty serious injury, but it wouldn't be the best financial move for the organization with other young cornerbacks already on the roster. Additionally, the Saints have one of the worst salary cap situations in the entire league, so using the franchise tag for the first time since 2021 doesn't make much sense. The 25-year-old had 52 tackles (43 solo), three interceptions and 10 pass breakups in seven games before suffering his season-ending injury in 2024 in his fourth year with the Saints. Adebo was on pace to shatter his career-highs but will now become an unrestricted free agent next month.
Paulson Adebo Should Draw Significant Interest In Free Agency
According to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, defensive back Paulson Adebo (leg) could draw significant interest on the free agent market. Fowler noted that several teams view him as a "top-three" cornerback option in the free-agent class. The 25-year-old suffered a broken femur in October but is expected to be ready for training camp. Before the injury, Adebo tallied 52 tackles (43 solo) with nine assists, 10 deflections, and three interceptions in seven games. He was deployed as a starter in the New Orleans secondary. In 2023, Adebo tallied 76 tackles with 18 deflections and four interceptions. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor the former third-round selection's status during the offseason, as he could be in store for a pay increase. If he were to leave New Orleans, Kool-Aid McKinstry would open the 2025 season as the No. 1 cornerback.
New Orleans Saints cornerback Paulson Adebo (leg) was diagnosed with a broken femur following Thursday's loss to the Denver Broncos. Adebo exited early in the second quarter after suffering a gruesome-looking leg injury. He was carted off the field in an air cast and taken to a nearby medical center for further evaluation. The Saints have suddenly become decimated with injuries on both sides of the ball, all while falling to 2-5 after their fifth consecutive loss. Alontae Taylor should handle more opportunities at cornerback with Adebo presumably done for the year. Update: Adebo is expected to miss 4-5 months after undergoing surgery on Friday.
The New Orleans Saints selected Stanford cornerback Paulson Adebo with the No. 76 overall pick in the third round of the 2021 NFL draft on Friday night. Adebo is a lengthy ball hawk at 6-foot-1, 192 pounds. He isn't all that agile, but he makes up for it by reading the opposing quarterbacks eyes and is very savvy at picking up route combinations. Adebo's best season in college came back in 2018, though, and he opted out of the 2020 campaign due to COVID-19. The Saints traded up to get him in the third round after he slipped in this draft because there was no tape on him from last year. Despite a down season in 2019, Adebo is underrated and could push for immediate playing time in his rookie season given New Orleans' need at cornerback.
