Theo Johnson Losing Redraft Value as the Season Approaches

New York Giants 25-year-old tight end Theo Johnson finished the 2025 season as the TE19, with 528 receiving yards and five touchdowns on 74 targets. He had an impressive 11.73 yards per reception and became one of Jaxson Dart's favorite targets. However, the biggest thorn in Johnson's side is the offseason signing of 26-year-old tight end Isaiah Likely, who has been generating a lot of buzz in camp and has been one of Dart's favorite targets thus far. The wide receiver room for the Giants is extremely cloudy, with Malik Nabers (knee) recovering from injury and guys like Darius Slayton, Calvin Austin, JuJu Smith-Schuster, and Odell Beckham Jr., rounding out the receiver room. While Johnson proved to be reliable and explosive in 2025 (10th in explosive rating), the target share will take a significant step backwards and Johnson likely won't remain fantasy relevant unless he has a spike in touchdown production. RotoBaller ranks Johnson as the TE39 entering the season, which makes him a dynasty stash at best.

Theo Johnson a Buy-Low Target in Dynasty Formats

New York Giants 25-year-old tight end Theo Johnson put together a nice season in 2025, hauling in 45 of his 74 targets for 528 receiving yards and five touchdowns. He had a 16.7 percent target share, was eighth in red zone targets, 7th in average target distance, and seventh in snap share. The opportunities were there for him, but much was left on the table as he averaged only 8.5 fantasy points per game, which was 22nd amongst tight ends. To make matters worse for Johnson, the Giants brought in Isaiah Likely over from Baltimore, who has been a fantasy sleeper for many experts over the past few seasons but has never panned out. At this moment, Likely projects to be the team's No.1 tight end and potentially the No. 2 passing option in this offense that is dealing with Malik Nabers (knee) recovering from an injury, and a mediocre wide receiver room that includes Odell Beckham Jr., Darnell Mooney, Calvin Austin, JuJu Smith-Schuster, and Malachi Fields. Johnson is off the radar in most redraft formats, but could be a decent buy-low option in dynasty if things with Likely don't work out, and it probably wouldn't take much to get him on your roster.

Theo Johnson May Be Re-Emerging as a Dynasty Buy-Low Target

New York Giants tight end Theo Johnson was a steady contributor to his team's passing game in 2025, recording 45 catches for 528 yards and five touchdowns on 74 targets across 15 games. Still, New York made a significant addition at the tight end position in free agency, signing Isaiah Likely to a three-year, $40 million contract. Given the team's financial commitment and Likely's familiarity with new Giants head coach John. Harbaugh from their time together in Baltimore, Johnson seems likely to open the year as the TE2 in New York. However, the Giants' wide receiver corps currently profiles as one of the weaker units in the NFL, particularly given star wideout Malik Nabers' (knee) uncertain health outlook. As a result, the team could lean into more two-tight end sets to get two of their better pass-catchers on the field at the same time. In dynasty leagues where his value has tanked following New York's acquisition of Likely, Johnson could be worth targeting as a buy-low candidate.

Has Theo Johnson's Dynasty Stock Fallen Too Far?

Across 15 games in 2025, New York Giants tight end Theo Johnson recorded 45 catches for 528 yards and five touchdowns on 74 targets. Despite the solid production, Johnson's dynasty value has plummeted over the offseason following the Giants' free agent acquisition of former Ravens tight end Isaiah Likely. New York's financial commitment to Likely and Likely's familiarity with new Giants head coach John Harbaugh both indicate that Johnson is most likely the team's TE2 entering 2026. Still, Johnson remains an intriguing young player with some production upside and established chemistry with Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart. New York also has significant questions in its wide receiver room outside of Malik Nabers (knee), which could lead the team to utilize multiple-tight-end personnel regularly. In dynasty formats, managers should be willing to take a flier on Johnson as a buy-low depth piece.

Has Theo Johnson Become a Dynasty Steal After Market Overcorrection?

New York Giants tight end Theo Johnson caught 45 passes in 2025 for 528 yards and five touchdowns, demonstrating a clear chemistry with quarterback Jaxson Dart and finishing as the TE13 or better in six of their nine games played together. However, calls for a true year-three breakout were largely quieted when the Giants committed $26 million in guaranteed money to free agent Isaiah Likely. With Johnson having since fallen to TE40 in RotoBaller's dynasty rankings, he could now be seen as a low-cost trade target with multiple paths to outperforming expectations. Head coach John Harbaugh arrives from Baltimore, where the Ravens were the only team in 2025 to run more plays out of 12-personnel than out of 11, and new offensive coordinator Matt Nagy's successful ability to run an offense through the tight end position is well documented. Johnson is only 25 years old, and in an offense proven desperate for secondary pass catchers by the recent signings of Odell Beckham Jr., JuJu Smith-Schuster, and Braxton Berrios, he could hold a legitimate role in 2026 and beyond.

Theo Johnson Not the Primary Option in New System?

New York Giants tight end Theo Johnson was one of the biggest risers at his position last year. However, just as quickly as his fantasy value took off, it could now be taking a hit. Johnson was the overall TE18 in his second season last year, catching 45 passes for 528 yards and five touchdowns. He benefitted from a Giants offense coached by Brian Daboll and quarterbacked by rookie Jaxson Dart. While Dart remains in place for 2026, Daboll is gone and has been replaced by John Harbaugh. Not only is there a new scheme in place, but Johnson also faces new competition after Isaiah Likely followed Harbaugh from Baltimore to New York. Given that Likely has a connection to the Giants' head coach and Johnson does not, the former may have an early advantage on the No. 1 tight end hunt. Johnson could still win the job with an impressive training camp, but more likely than not, we'll see split usage for the two tight ends. If that happens, it's unlikely that either would be able to carve out much standalone value on a week-by-week basis. If Likely misses time due to injury, Johnson would be a fringe top-12 fantasy tight end, but otherwise, he's more of a bench stash. Dynasty managers should look to sell high on Johnson, since we're wary of the possibility of him finishing higher than TE18 in 2026 and beyond. There's no resolution in sight, either, as Likely is signed through 2028 and Johnson is signed through 2027.

Theo Johnson a Dynasty Faller After Busy Giants Offseason

As a second-year player in 2025, New York Giants tight end Theo Johnson trailed only Wan'Dale Robinson in team targets and receptions, but even with Robinson departing in free agency, dynasty managers may have already seen Johnson's ceiling. Tight end Isaiah Likely was one of the team's first free agent acquisitions, reuniting him with new Giants head coach John Harbaugh. Darnell Mooney, who saw 100 targets as recently as 2024, was brought in as the most direct replacement to Robinson, and New York spent a third-round pick on Notre Dame wide receiver Malachi Fields to further bolster the room. The biggest barrier to volume for Johnson and all other Giants pass catchers, though, is the expected return to health of Malik Nabers, who tore his ACL only four weeks into the 2025 season. Nabers set an NFL rookie record with 170 targets in 2024, while his 109 receptions broke a team record, and with him back in the lineup, the quintet of Johnson, Likely, Mooney, Fields, and Darius Slayton could legitimately be working with less than 70% of Jaxson Dart's available targets.

Theo Johnson Trending Down in Crowded Offense?

New York Giants tight end Theo Johnson had a breakout campaign in 2025, catching 45 passes for 528 yards and five touchdowns. He finished Year 2 in the NFL as the overall TE18 in fantasy football (PPR), and he firmly established himself not only as the Giants' top tight end but also as one of Jaxson Dart's favorite targets. The bad news for Johnson is that he probably won't be Dart's top target in 2026. Malik Nabers (knee) is returning from a torn ACL, giving Dart a superstar receiver worthy of 175 targets. We also expect newcomers Calvin Austin III and Darnell Mooney to have decent roles in the passing game. Meanwhile, running backs Cam Skattebo (ankle) and Tyrone Tracy Jr. will handle their fair share of volume. Finally, Johnson faces competition within his own position group after tight end Isaiah Likely followed head coach John Harbaugh from Baltimore to New York. With so many mouths to feed, it's hard to imagine that Johnson will be able to fetch another 70+ targets and 40+ receptions in 2026. He is immensely talented, but the state of the offense will likely drop him to the low-end TE2 or high-end TE3 tier next year. He's a hold in most dynasty leagues, or a potential sell if you can find someone who still believes in his fantasy outlook long-term. Johnson has fallen to #34 among tight ends in RotoBaller's latest dynasty rankings.

Theo Johnson Facing Increased Competition in New York

New York Giants tight end Theo Johnson finds himself in a more crowded position group all of a sudden. The Giants underwent a major coaching staff shakeup this offseason, and new head coach John Harbaugh brought in plenty of his guys, including tight end Isaiah Likely. It's unclear whether Likely or Johnson will be the true No. 1 in New York, but either way, the addition of the former will have major implications on the latter. It's unfortunate, too, given that Johnson was just starting to trend up. He had 45 catches, 528 yards, and five touchdowns in 2025, ranking as the overall TE18 in full-PPR leagues. It's hard to envision him eclipsing those marks next year if Likely is heavily involved, just like he was in Baltimore. The biggest saving grace for Johnson is that the Giants lost Wan'Dale Robinson this offseason, leaving plenty of vacated targets to go around. He also has an existing rapport with quarterback Jaxson Dart, and Likely can't say the same. We expect Johnson to remain a low-end TE2 option in 2026, but his value certainly isn't going up in dynasty leagues.

Theo Johnson's Stock Rising After Steady 2025 Season

New York Giants tight end Theo Johnson established himself as the team's clear top option at the position in his second NFL season in 2025. Across 15 games played, the 24-year-old hauled in 45 receptions for 528 yards and five touchdowns on 74 targets. Johnson played at least 80% of the Giants' offensive snaps in 12 out of the 15 games he was active for. Additionally, all five of his touchdown grabs came from Giants rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart, an encouraging sign for the chemistry between two young pieces in the New York offense who should be able to grow together in the coming years. Heading into 2026, the Giants should be getting star wideout Malik Nabers (knee) back from the knee injury that sidelined him for the majority of 2025, which will take some targets away from Johnson. Still, New York's offense profiles as an improving unit as a whole, which should only help Johnson's overall production. He may not have a superstar ceiling, but Johnson profiles as a tight end whose stock is on the rise in dynasty fantasy formats.
