Giants
Free-agent tight end Chris Manhertz is signing with the New York Giants, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. The Giants have Darren Waller and Daniel Bellinger on the roster and signed former Philadelphia Eagles tight end Jack Stoll this week, so the position is getting crowded behind Waller. Manhertz has caught just 26 passes for 271 yards and two touchdowns in his eight-year career with the Carolina Panthers, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Denver Broncos, so he will not be on the fantasy radar in 2024. He is primarily a blocking tight end, and he could be buried on the depth chart.

Broncos Agree With Chris Manhertz
The Denver Broncos reached an agreement with former Jacksonville Jaguars tight end Chris Manhertz on a two-year, $6 million deal on Monday that includes $3.34 million guaranteed, according to his agent. Manhertz has mostly been a blocking tight end in his NFL career, so he's unlikely to move the fantasy needle in 2023. The 30-year-old spent the last two years with the Jaguars and had a combined 12 receptions on 17 targets for 113 yards and one touchdown in 34 games (21 starts). In Denver, Greg Dulcich and Albert Okwuegbunam should be the team's top pass-catching tight ends, but Manhertz will bring a blocking presence to the position. In his seven NFL seasons, Manhertz has only 24 receptions for 255 yards and two touchdowns.

Chris Manhertz Catches Touchdown In Week 1 Loss
Jacksonville Jaguars tight end Chris Manhertz caught his only pass for a 22-yard touchdown in the team's 37-21 Week 1 defeat against the Houston Texans. Manhertz will forever live on Trevor Lawrence's highlight reel as the recipient of the rookie's first career touchdown pass, but he was a non-factor for most of the game. As he has for most of his career, Manhertz mostly served as a blocker in this one while James O'Shaughnessy functioned as the preferred receiving tight end. Despite catching the touchdown pass, Manhertz is firmly off the radar in all fantasy formats, and Jacob Hollister's presumed debut next week only limits his chances of changing that.

Chris Manhertz Leading Jaguars Tight End Room
Jacksonville Jaguars veteran tight end Chris Manhertz is taking charge of the team's tight end room that lacks established passing-game contributors at the NFL level. Per SI's John Shipley, "Manhertz is Jacksonville's appointed leader of the tight end room," and "he is seeing more targets with the starting offense and being asked to win as a route-runner on a more frequent basis." Manhertz has dominated as a blocker throughout his five-year career, but he's only amassed 12 receptions in that time. Manhertz and the team are clearly looking for him to at least triple his career reception total this season, but it remains to be seen if he is actually capable of doing so. Manhertz is off the radar in fantasy leagues at this point in time, but he could be a factor if he becomes Trevor Lawrence's preferred TE target on the team.

Chris Manhertz Standing Out
Jacksonville Jaguars tight end Chris Manhertz sits atop the depth chart going into training camp despite amassing only 12 career receptions in five NFL seasons. Manhertz has been known more for his blocking than his receiving prowess to this point, but that could change in 2021. This offseason, according to SI's John Shipley, Manhertz "stood out time and time again" and "looked quicker... while also bringing in several tough sideline grabs." It's also somewhat notable that Manhertz attended George Kittle's tight end university camp. Manhertz will compete primarily with James O'Shaughnessy for TE targets in 2021. Overall, it's likely that each of them mixes in, which would negatively impact the fantasy value for both players. Barring a significant training camp rise, consider Manhertz off of the fantasy radar for 2021.

Chris Manhertz Coming Off PUP
Carolina Panthers tight end Chris Manhertz (foot) passed his physical and has been activated from the Physically Unable to Perform list on Friday. Manhertz will be the third tight end on the depth chart behind Greg Olsen and rookie Ian Thomas. He can be avoided in all fantasy leagues.

Chris Manhertz To Begin Camp On PUP List
Carolina Panthers tight end Chris Manhertz (foot) will start training camp on the Physically Unable to Perform list after being hurt in June minicamp. He had surgery on his foot for a Jones fracture and is hoping to return before the start of the regular season. Manhertz is the backup to Greg Olsen but is mostly a blocking tight end, so he doesn't have much fantasy intrigue, even if Olsen were to be injured.

Chris Manhertz Unlikely To Be Ready For Training Camp
Carolina Panthers tight end Chris Manhertz (foot), who suffered a left foot injury in minicamp, is unlikely to be ready for the start of training camp this month. However, he's still the favorite for No. 2 duties behind Greg Olsen in 2018. The other tight ends on roster are Ian Thomas, Jason Vander Laan and Evan Baylis. Coaches have liked what they've seen from Thomas, and he could contribute in his rookie season. Still, Manhertz would be the beneficiary of a starting role if Olsen were to go down with an injury.
