Jameis Winston News
New Orleans Saints quarterback Jameis Winston has re-signed with the organization. The deal is reportedly a one-year contract worth up to $8 million for the 2023 campaign. The assumption is that part of the contract is incentive based. The Saints secure a reliable backup to sit behind Derek Carr next season. Last season, Winston got off to a rocky start before missing most of the season due to back issues. He'll be one of the better backups in the league, assuming he's healthy heading into next season. However, Winston isn't going to provide any fantasy value as long as Carr is healthy.
New Orleans Saints quarterback Jameis Winston has been given an opportunity to remain with the organization. The team has reportedly offered Winston a restructured deal to stay with the team in 2023. Otherwise, the Saints are expected to cut Winston by next Wednesday. The former No. 1 pick has been limited to 14 games (10 starts) with the Saints since 2020. It's worth noting that Winston threw for 1,170 passing yards with 14 touchdowns and three interceptions before tearing his ACL in Week 8 of the 2021 campaign. The expectation is that Winston would likely have to compete for a starting job, assuming he leaves the Saints. The potential is there, but the injuries have left a big question mark for Winston.
New Orleans Saints quarterback Jameis Winston will likely be a salary cap casualty after the signing of former Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr. Winston's release could save $4.4 million against the salary cap, but the Saints would take on $11.2 million in dead money. A post-June 1 cut would save $12.8 million, but no savings until then. That said, his time with the team has likely come to an end, but we'll have to wait and see when the cut takes place. Winston started 10 games in two seasons with New Orleans, throwing for 18 touchdowns and eight interceptions. He could be a candidate to be a bridge quarterback for his next NFL team.
