Jameis Winston Racks Up Yardage in Narrow Week 12 Loss

New York Giants quarterback Jameis Winston completed 18 of his 36 pass attempts for 366 yards, two passing touchdowns, and one interception during Sunday's Week 12 win over the Detroit Lions. He also got involved in some trickery, adding a third touchdown on a 33-yard reception that was thrown to him by wide receiver Gunner Olszewski. Winston's turnover and low completion rate were unfortunate, but his high yardage and three total touchdowns made him a valuable fantasy option once again. Unfortunately for fantasy managers who were relying on him as a streamer, Winston will head back to the bench in Week 13 if Jaxson Dart (concussion) clears concussion protocol, as expected. The offense belongs to Dart once again, but at least we've seen that Winston can be a fringe top-12 fantasy quarterback if he ever gets thrust back into the starting role.

Jameis Winston In QB2 Territory For Second Straight Start Against Lions

New York Giants quarterback Jameis Winston is set to make his second consecutive start in Week 12 against the Lions, with Jaxson Dart (concussion) ruled out. Winston was serviceable last week against the Packers in his first start of the 2025 season, completing 19 of 29 passes for 201 yards, one interception, and one fumble to go along with three carries for 10 yards and a touchdown. The veteran had a few turnovers like usual, but otherwise kept the Giants in the fight in a one-score loss. Winston started seven games for the Browns last year and delivered legit fantasy value, producing one top-five QB week, three top 12 weeks, and ranking as the QB12 in points per game (18.8). He gets a solid matchup on Sunday against a Lions defense that has allowed the 12th most fantasy points per game to opposing quarterbacks, and ranks as RotoBaller's QB24 for Week 12.

Jameis Winston A QB2 For Season Debut in Week 11 Against Packers

New York Giants quarterback Jameis Winston is set to make his first start of the season in Week 11 against the Green Bay Packers, filling in for an injured Jaxon Dart (concussion). Winston will get the start over Russell Wilson as he is demoted to QB3. The former first overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft takes over at the helm with interim head coach Mike Kafka after Brian Daboll was fired earlier this week. Winston produced his standard numbers in seven games as a starter in Cleveland last season, completing 61.1% of his passes for 2,121 yards with 13 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. The 31-year-old will be without one of New York's top wideouts in Darius Slayton (hamstring), in a stiff test against a stout Green Bay Packers defense that has allowed the second-fewest net yards per pass attempt (5.1) this season. Winston provides plenty of volatility in a given week, and he'll project as a low-end QB2 for Week 11.

Jameis Winston to Make Season Debut in Week 11

New York Giants quarterback Jameis Winston is set to make his season debut in Week 11 against the Green Bay Packers. After spending most of the season as the team's QB3, Winston gets the nod with rookie Jaxson Dart in concussion protocol and Russell Wilson demoted. In seven starts last season with the Cleveland Browns, the former first-overall pick averaged 291 passing yards with 13 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. He'll face a tough challenge against a Packers defense that has allowed the eighth-fewest fantasy points to quarterbacks this year. As always, Winston brings plenty of volatility, making him a classic high-risk, high-reward option for Week 11.

Jameis Winston Will Start in Week 11 for Giants

New York Giants interim head coach Mike Kafka confirmed on Wednesday that veteran Jameis Winston will be the starting quarterback on Sunday when the team takes on the visiting Green Bay Packers in Week 11 at MetLife Stadium. Rookie Jaxson Dart (concussion) is in the league's concussion protocol after injuring his head in the Week 10 loss to the Chicago Bears and will not play this weekend. It will be Winston, not Russell Wilson, starting under center this weekend with Dart sidelined. Tight ends coach Tim Kelly will be the offensive coordinator after the Giants fired head coach Brian Daboll earlier this week. Sunday will be Winston's first action of the year after he threw for 2,121 yards, 13 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions in 12 games (seven starts) for the Browns in 2024. Expect aggressive downfield passing with lots of sacks and turnovers for the Giants' offense this week, making the Packers' defensive unit a top fantasy option.

Jameis Winston Elevated to No. 2 QB, Expected to Start if Jaxson Dart Can't Go

NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported that the New York Giants have elevated Jameis Winston to the No. 2 quarterback on the depth chart and expect him to start Sunday in the event Jaxson Dart (concussion) doesn't clear the concussion protocol, per The Insiders. Winston was moved ahead of Russell Wilson, as interim coach Mike Kafka informed them. Additionally, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the Giants are expected to start quarterback Winston against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, sources told Schefter and Jordan Raanan of ESPN on Wednesday. In a significant turn of events, both Schefter and Rapoport have reported that it's likely Winston gets the start against the Packers. He immediately raises the ceiling of the Giants' playmakers like Darius Slayton, Theo Johnson, and Wan'Dale Robinson, compared to what Russel Wilson can bring to the table at this point in his career. Winston is a bit of a wild card, but he will bring much more excitement to the team and Sunday's matchup. In his career, he has thrown for 24,225 yards, 154 touchdowns, and 111 interceptions. He can be started as a wild card in QB2 leagues once he is confirmed to be the starter.

Jameis Winston Did Not Want to be Traded at the Deadline

Jordan Raanan, NFL Nation reporter for ESPN who covers the New York Giants, reported that Jameis Winston may be the third-string quarterback, but he didn't want to go anywhere at the trade deadline. The plan is for him to be the New York Giants' backup to Jaxson Dart next season. Winston has been floated as a potential trade target for teams in need of a starting quarterback, given his long-standing pedigree and NFL tenure, starting in 87 total games throughout his career. However, Winston is content in New York and wants to stay with them next season to back up young rookie star Jaxson Dart. This would be a move that would be advantageous for the Giants, considering we have seen second-year (Sophomore Slumps) from quarterbacks in the past. Think CJ Stroud of the Houston Texans in 2024. While it's all speculation, it will give the Giants peace of mind knowing their backup quarterback can still sling the ball. Winston has thrown for 24,225 yards, 154 passing touchdowns, and 111 interceptions.

Jaxson Dart Active Over Jameis Winston in Week 1

New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart is active and will operate as the team's backup for Week 1 against the Washington Commanders. Meanwhile, Jameis Winston is inactive as the team's emergency third quarterback. This depth chart decision from the coaching staff aligns with recent rumors that indicated Dart may have earned the backup job and could even make his NFL debut in Week 1. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport recently noted that the Giants have a package of plays ready for Dart, so it's possible that he could relieve starter Russell Wilson for a handful of snaps on Sunday afternoon. Still, Dart is merely a dynasty stash at this point, as he'd need to be inserted as the full-time starter before warranting any interest in redraft leagues. Meanwhile, Winston should be left on waivers in all leagues.

Jameis Winston Not Available for Trade

New York Giants assistant general manager Brandon Brown put to rest any rumors of a Jameis Winston trade during a Tuesday press conference. "I appreciate people that are interested, but Jameis is a New York Giant," Brown told reporters after being asked if the team was taking calls about their veteran backup quarterback. The recent preseason performance of rookie Jaxson Dart, whom the team traded up to draft in the first round, had some wondering if he'd shown enough to supplant Winston for the No. 2 job heading into the season. With the Giants also adding Russell Wilson through free agency to be their starter, the depth chart appears all but settled with one preseason game left to be played, and the team seems comfortable allowing Dart to develop behind the scenes for now.

Jameis Winston the QB2, Jaxson Dart Third on Giants Depth Chart

Offseason free-agent addition Jameis Winston is listed as the New York Giants' No. 2 quarterback behind starter Russell Wilson on the team's first unofficial depth chart. First-round pick Jaxson Dart, the 25th overall selection from Ole Miss, checks in at No. 3 ahead of Tommy DeVito. It doesn't come as a surprise that Winston is second on the depth chart, though Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News notes that the rookie has typically gotten second-team reps ahead of the veteran in practice. Wilson is sure to open the season as New York's starter, but either Winston or Dart could grab the No. 2 job with a strong preseason. The Giants open their exhibition schedule in Buffalo on Saturday.
