Abdul Carter Benched to Begin Monday's Game

New York Giants rookie defensive end Abdul Carter was benched to begin Monday's game versus the New England Patriots. The team is calling Carter's absence on the first drive a coach's decision. This was likely due to Carter missing some type of team activity (most likely a meeting) last week. Carter did eventually make it onto the field and recorded a sack. This isn't the first time that Carter has been benched by the Giants. Interim head coach Mike Kafka is trying to make a statement in a lost season. The Giants were already mathematically eliminated from playoff contention at 2-10 before the kickoff on Monday night. Carter was the third overall pick back in April out of Penn State.

Abdul Carter In Denver, To Test Injury Pre-Game

New York Giants edge rusher Abdul Carter (hamstring) will be a game-time decision to take on the Denver Broncos in Week 7, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The rookie from Penn State has made the trip to Denver, per Rapoport, but will use pre-game workouts to determine whether he can play through the hamstring ailment. If he responds well, it's possible he could play against a Broncos offense that struggled last week, but managers in IDP should make other plans nonetheless. With a 4:05 p.m. EST kickoff, waiting for Carter's official status is too risky to start him this week.

Abdul Carter Looks Explosive

ESPN's Jordan Raanan writes that New York Giants rookie first-round defensive end Abdul Carter has looked explosive during offseason workouts, and it was evident from the moment he first set foot on the field. "He looks quick," veteran middle linebacker Bobby Okereke said of Carter. The 21-year-old third overall pick in this year's NFL draft was used as an edge rusher, defensive tackle and inside linebacker during spring practices and didn't look out of place physically or mentally. Defensive coordinator Shane Bowen has already noted Carter's versatility, so the rookie's usage early in his first year in the league will be worth watching. Carter could be on the IDP fantasy radar sooner than later in 2025, and the combination of him, Kayvon Thibodeaux, Dexter Lawrence and Brian Burns could make the Giants defense one of the best pass-rushing units in the NFL.

Abdul Carter Could be a Game-Changer for Giants

The Athletic's Dan Duggan writes that the New York Giants' selection of outside linebacker Abdul Carter with the third overall pick in this year's NFL draft could be a game-changer for the team in 2025. Carter, in addition to pass-rushers Dexter Lawrence, Brian Burns and Kayvon Thibodeau, gives the G-Men the ability to dominate games on the defensive side of the ball. The Giants also upgraded their defense in the offseason by adding cornerback Paulson Adebo and safety Jevon Holland in free agency. In 16 games in 2024 in his final season at Penn State, the 21-year-old Carter had 24 tackles for loss and 12 sacks. While Carter might be in more of a rotational role as an edge rusher initially in the Big Apple, he could emerge as a weekly IDP fantasy option sooner than later because of his game-wrecking ability.

Giants Sign Abdul Carter To Rookie Deal

The New York Giants officially signed linebacker Abdul Carter to his rookie contract on Thursday. The No. 3 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft out of Penn State inked a four-year, fully guaranteed deal worth $45.3 million. Carter was viewed by some as the No. 1 overall player in the draft class after he finished his collegiate career with a 68-tackle, 12-sack season in 2025. Carter's arrival strengthens New York's front seven, which could be one of the best units in the league with the help of Dexter Lawrence and Brian Burns.

Giants Plan On Using Abdul Carter Everywhere

New York Giants rookie first-round pass-rusher Abdul Carter was being worked out at linebacker during the team's rookie minicamp over the weekend during individual periods. However, the Giants plan on using Carter everywhere -- at edge rusher, inside, and dropping back -- according to SNY's Connor Hughes. The 21-year-old has impressive and elite physical gifts, so the G-Men plan on using him in as many ways as they can to maximize his potential after taking him third overall in this year's NFL draft out of Penn State. Carter could become a force in IDP fantasy leagues sooner than later for a Giants pass-rush that already features Brian Burns and Kayvon Thibodeaux. In his final season with the Nittany Lions, Carter racked up 12 sacks and a whopping 23.5 tackles for loss, showing just how disruptive he can be in the backfield.

Giants Draft Abdul Carter At Third Overall

The New York Giants selected Penn State defensive end Abdul Carter with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft on Thursday night. Carter was hands down the best defensive prospect in this year's draft class and was a unanimous All-American selection. He lived in opponent's backfield and led FBS with 23.5 tackles for loss in 2024. Carter will combine with Kayvon Thibodeaux and Brian Burns for the Giants to boost their pass rush moving forward in a division that includes the reigning Super Bowl-champion Philadelphia Eagles. Carter has an amazing first step off the line as he rushes the passer and has a high motor. Despite dealing with several injuries during the pre-draft process -- he didn't require surgery for his foot -- the 21-year-old didn't fall outside of the top five picks this year. Carter could make the kind of immediate impact that Micah Parsons did in Dallas.

Abdul Carter Visiting With New England

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports that Penn State Nittany Lions edge rusher Abdul Carter (foot) is visiting with the New England Patriots on Monday. The 21-year-old has officially visited with each of the top four teams in the NFL Draft. Carter recently got the excellent news that the stress reaction in his foot is healing and won't require surgery. According to Pelissero, he's "on track" medically. The Philadelphia native was a menace in 2024, racking up 68 tackles, 12 sacks, and a whopping 24 tackles for loss. He's explosive, relentless, and physical at the point of attack, making him an excellent choice at the top of the draft. Per the NFL's grading system (athleticism estimated), Carter has an even 7.00 prospect grade -- marking him as a Pro Bowl talent.

Abdul Carter Doesn't Need Surgery On His Foot

Per his agent Drew Rosenhaus, Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter's (foot, shoulder) medical recheck in Indianapolis on Thursday showed that the stress reaction in his foot is healing. There has been improvement and no surgery will be needed. "It should be a non-factor with the teams at this point," Rosenhaus said. In addition to a foot injury he's recovering from, a shoulder injury also prevented him from working out at the scouting combine and his school's Pro Day. However, the 21-year-old defensive end plans to host a private workout for NFL teams later this month before the draft. The reigning Big 10 Defensive Player of the Year shouldn't have his draft stock affected by the two injuries, and there's still a chance he could go as high as No. 2 overall to the Cleveland Browns. Cleveland is expected to take either Carter or Colorado two-way star Travis Hunter at second overall.

Abdul Carter To Meet With Giants On Thursday

Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter had breakfast on Sunday in State College, Pa., with New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll and is also scheduled for a top-30 visit with the Giants in New Jersey on Thursday, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Carter figures to be a top-three pick in the upcoming NFL draft, and the G-Men hold the third overall pick behind the Tennessee Titans and Cleveland Browns. The 21-year-old defensive end is the clear top pass-rushing talent in this year's draft class, even though he's coming off foot and shoulder injuries that kept him from participating in the scouting combine back in February. He was the 2024 Big 10 Defensive Player of the Year and would be a big-time addition to the Giants' pass rush across from Kayvon Thibodeaux. It would be a shocker if Carter isn't the first defensive player off the board in this year's draft.
