Tyrone Tracy Jr. Remains Part of Giants Plans Despite Recent Moves

New York Giants running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. remains "squarely still in the plans" for the team despite the recent signing of veteran back Najee Harris, per Jordan Raanan of ESPN. Tracy Jr. has been a productive player for the Giants, recording 2,151 scrimmage yards and 10 touchdowns on 442 touches across his first two NFL seasons. However, the Giants' backfield is expected to be led by second-year back Cam Skattebo in 2026 now that he is fully recovered from the ankle injury that ended his 2025 season in Week 8. Raanan reports that Harris will "need a couple weeks to get in football shape," so Tracy Jr. could be secure in New York's RB2 role for now. Harris is also recovering from a torn Achilles tendon that caused him to miss most of the 2025 season. Still, Harris recorded four consecutive seasons with at least 1,000 rushing yards before the lost year in 2025. Following his signing, Tracy Jr.'s fantasy value is in question.

Tyrone Tracy Jr. Warming Up With Starters on Saturday

New York Giants running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. is warming up with the starters at MetLife Stadium behind quarterback Jaxson Dart as the team prepares to play its preseason opener on Saturday against the Minnesota Vikings, according to Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News. Cam Skattebo was seen working behind backup QB Jameis Winston. Fantasy managers shouldn't read too much into a pre-game workout before the first preseason game, but it's a reminder that Tracy will still be involved alongside Skattebo in 2026 in new head coach John Harbaugh's offense. At RotoBaller, Skattebo is ranked as a No. 2 fantasy RB at No. 20 overall, with Tracy coming in way down at No. 44 in the rankings. The 26-year-old Tracy should not merely be an afterthought, especially with Skattebo coming off a gruesome ankle/leg injury in his rookie season. Depending on the workload split between Skattebo and Tracy, Tracy could have sneaky RB3/flex weekly value for fantasy football managers.

Cam Skattebo and Tyrone Tracy Jr. Listed as Co-Starters

The New York Giants have released their first unofficial depth chart ahead of their preseason opener against the Vikings on Saturday, and running backs Cam Skattebo and Tyrone Tracy Jr. are listed as co-starters. The "or" designation is used a number of times across the depth chart, but running back is the only position on offense without a clear listed starter. Tracy began the 2025 season as the starting running back, but missed time to injury and was overtaken on the depth chart even upon his return, with Skattebo nearly doubling his snap count in Weeks 4 and 5 before an ankle injury ended his rookie season. Skattebo has operated as the clear lead back for much of training camp, making the co-starter listing somewhat unexpected, though it should have no bearing on his fantasy outlook, and he ranks as RotoBaller's RB20, a full 25 running back spots ahead of Tracy.

Tyrone Tracy Jr. Can Still Matter in Giants Backfield

New York Giants running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. is no longer the favorite to lead the backfield, but he should not disappear behind Cam Skattebo. Tracy topped 1,000 scrimmage yards for the second straight season in 2025, rushing 176 times for 740 yards and adding 36 catches for 288 yards and two touchdowns. The receiving work is what keeps the door open. He has 74 catches through two NFL seasons and spent spring practices showing the new staff what he can do while Skattebo continued working back from his ankle injury. Skattebo is now back in camp and fits the physical identity John Harbaugh wants to build with Patrick Ricard and Greg Roman involved in the offense. He still looks like the stronger bet for early-down and goal-line work. That leaves room for Tracy, especially on passing downs and in a Giants offense that ranked among the league's top five in rushing last year. RotoBaller ranks Tracy RB43 in PPR, RB46 in half-PPR, and RB45 in dynasty. He is not a weekly starter while Skattebo is healthy, but he offers more than injury-only value in PPR leagues and becomes a much stronger play if the backfield opens up.

Tyrone Tracy Jr. a Priority Handcuff Running Back Entering 2026

Across 15 games (11 starts) in 2025, New York Giants running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. recorded 1,028 scrimmage yards and four touchdowns on 212 touches. Early on last season, Tracy Jr. appeared to be losing his touches to fellow Giants back Cam Skattebo (ankle). Tracy Jr. regained the team's RB1 role after Skattebo went down with a season-ending ankle injury in Week 8. However, Skattebo is expected to be ready to go for the start of 2026, pushing Tracy Jr. back to a reserve role. As long as Skattebo remains healthy, Tracy Jr. is unlikely to log enough touches to provide fantasy-relevant production. However, the 26-year-old has proven himself capable of putting up decent numbers when given the chance, finishing in the RB3 range in per-game PPR scoring in each of his first two NFL seasons. Skattebo's physical play style may also put him at greater risk of injury than the typical running back, which only increases Tracy Jr.'s handcuff appeal. As the RB44 by current redraft ADP, Tracy Jr. could end up as a value selection for fantasy managers.

Tyrone Tracy Jr. Projected for a Backup Role Again in 2026

New York Giants running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. has taken advantage of opportunities given, but through his first two years in the league, he's rarely appeared to be the Giants' primary plan. As a fifth-round rookie in 2024, he began the year behind free agent acquisition Devin Singletary and didn't see more than five carries in a game until the veteran missed time with a groin injury. Tracy responded with 129 yards on 18 carries in his first career start and held onto the position the rest of the way, finishing as the RB16 over the final 14 weeks of his rookie season. Heading into year two, Tracy kept the starting job for exactly one week before being supplanted by fourth-round rookie Cam Skattebo, who led the room in snaps, carries, and yards from Weeks 2-7. Skattebo's season-ending ankle injury eventually allowed Tracy to reclaim lead responsibilities, and he again finished the year on a fantasy-relevant 12-week stretch as the RB20, though the offense as a whole lacked the spark provided by the rookie out of Arizona State. With Skattebo expected back for the start of the season, Tracy is RotoBaller's RB46, and while Skattebo's hard-running style could ultimately add to Tracy's value as an in-season insurance pickup, he is not a player expected to factor into most 2026 drafts.

Tyrone Tracy Jr. Carries Dynasty Buy-Low Appeal Despite Uncertain Playing Time

A fifth-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, New York Giants running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. burst onto the scene as a rookie by recording 1,123 scrimmage yards and six touchdowns on 230 touches across 17 games (12 starts). However, Tracy Jr. lost the RB1 role in New York to 2025 fourth-rounder Cam Skattebo (ankle) early last season. Skattebo (ankle) suffered a season-ending ankle injury in Week 8, which allowed Tracy Jr. to reclaim the starting role and top 1,000 scrimmage yards for the second consecutive season. Entering 2026, Skattebo is expected to be fully healthy and should reclaim the lead role in the Giants' backfield. Still, Tracy Jr. could remain a valuable player to roster for dynasty managers. The 26-year-old is a former college wide receiver who has recorded 74 catches for 572 yards on 101 targets across his first two NFL seasons, which could allow him to provide fantasy production even while playing a complementary role. Additionally, Skattebo's violent play style gives him a heightened injury risk and makes Tracy Jr. a high-end handcuff option. For the right price, Tracy Jr. could be worth buying low on entering 2026.

Is Tyrone Tracy Jr. a Sneaky Dynasty Buy?

New York Giants running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. projects as the team's No. 2 option out of the backfield in 2026, but there may be a path for him to maintain value in dynasty fantasy football leagues. Fueled by a big second half after Cam Skattebo (ankle) went down, Tracy finished as the overall RB28 in PPR leagues last year. He has now been a top-28 running back in each of his two pro seasons. He scored just four touchdowns but eclipsed 1,000 scrimmage yards for the second year in a row. Additionally, he earned playing time by demonstrating ball security; he fumbled just once, despite having more than 200 touches. As many NFL teams shift to having a split backfield, Tracy should continue to have a key role alongside Skattebo, even if Skattebo starts most of the games. Tracy remains an intriguing RB3/flex appeal, and since some managers value him lower, there's an opportunity to buy low and reap the rewards. Managers looking for an affordable running back with weekly flex value in dynasty leagues should look to acquire Tracy this offseason.

Tyrone Tracy Jr. Can Maintain Fantasy Relevance When Teammate Returns

New York Giants running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. may fall back into the No. 2 role on the depth chart this season, but that won't necessarily prevent him from remaining a relevant option in fantasy football. All signs point to Cam Skattebo (ankle) reclaiming the lead-back role by Week 1, but Tracy's strong second half of the 2025 season should be enough to earn him a healthy share of touches behind Skattebo in 2026. That's especially true as we see more NFL teams shift to a shared backfield dynamic with two impactful ball-carries. Tracy was the overall RB12 in half-PPR leagues from Week 11-18 last year, so even if he handles ~40% of the snaps and volume in New York, he should still offer value as a weekly RB3/flex option. Plus, with Skattebo coming off an injury, rostering his handcuff is certainly not a bad idea. This Giants offense is trending up with Jaxson Dart leading the way, and Tracy stands to benefit as a result.

Tyrone Tracy Jr. Part of a Muddled Giants Backfield Heading into 2026

Giants running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. began and finished the 2025 season as New York's primary ball carrier, but from Weeks 2 through 7, it was a healthy Cam Skattebo that dominated touches, both on the ground and in the passing game. The Giants bring in an entirely new coaching staff for 2026, so there is no clear blueprint for the division of labor between Tracy, Skattebo, and Devin Singletary, who also returns after handling 138 opportunities of his own last season. Furthermore, New York has been tied to Notre Dame prospect Jeremiyah Love with the fifth pick in the NFL Draft, though more pressing needs on defense could force them to pass even if he falls to them. Regardless of how the backfield situation plays out, Tracy profiles as a committee back with occasional flex value who can handle a large volume in an insurance role, as evidenced by his 19+ opportunities per game over the final nine weeks of the 2025 season.
