Tim Patrick News
An MRI exam confirmed on Tuesday that Denver Broncos wide receiver Tim Patrick (knee) suffered a season-ending torn ACL in training camp practice. It's the third straight year the Broncos have lost a star receiver to a season-ending ACL injury, joining Courtland Sutton in 2020 and KJ Hamler last year. Running back Damarea Crockett also went down in practice on Tuesday with an apparent knee injury, and the team fears it's also significant. With Patrick now out for all of 2020, Hamler, who was just activated from the Physically Unable to Perform list on Monday, will have a prime opportunity to serve as the No. 3 for quarterback Russell Wilson behind Sutton and Jerry Jeudy. Hamler, who could break out as a deep threat for Wilson, should start slowly rising up draft boards.
Denver Broncos wide receiver Tim Patrick (knee) was carted off the field at training camp practice on Tuesday with an undisclosed injury. DNVR Sports' Zac Stevens is reporting that Patrick suffered a possible knee injury. The 28-year-old wideout wasn't putting weight on his right leg as he was taken to the locker room. He is one of the more underrated receivers in the NFL and is stuck in a crowded receiver room in Denver, but he's an important piece to Denver's offense, when healthy. Patrick finished the last two years with 700-plus receiving yards and 11 total touchdowns in 31 games. If he's forced to miss significant time, it will open the door for KJ Hamler (knee), who just came off the Physically Unable to Perform list on Monday, to see extra playing time with new quarterback Russell Wilson.
The Denver Broncos restructured wide receiver Tim Patrick's contract to lower his salary cap hit for the 2022 season from $9.25 million to $4.6 million, giving the Broncos around $4.6 million in cap space. Patrick agreed to restructure a $6.95 million roster bonus that was due on March 21, converting it into a signing bonus. He's still due a $1.5 million base salary, and his 2023 cap hit will increase to $11.57 million. Denver could do a similar restructure with Courtland Sutton, as he's due a $10.5 million roster bonus on March 21. Patrick led the team with 742 receiving yards and six touchdowns in 2020, and he followed that up with 734 yards and five touchdowns on 53 catches in 2021. He'll be more attractive as a WR4/flex in deeper leagues with quarterback Russell Wilson in town, but his big games will be hard to predict in an offense with many weapons.
