Omar Cooper Jr. to Require Some Patience in Dynasty Leagues?

New York Jets wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr. has long-term upside in dynasty fantasy football, but managers should prepare for the possibility that he doesn't break out right away as a rookie. The Jets are expected to experience some growing pains this season with Geno Smith at quarterback. Smith had a miserable season in Las Vegas last year, and we question whether he'll be able to support a fantasy-relevant season from Omar Cooper Jr. when he already has Garrett Wilson as his WR1. With that being said, Cooper has proven himself as a winning receiver since he played for the national champion Indiana Hoosiers. He also has long-term appeal in dynasty leagues, because it seems like a foregone conclusion that the Jets will spend a top pick on a quarterback next year. A talented, young quarterback could be exactly what Cooper needs to emerge as a reliable fantasy option, even if Wilson remains the top target. As a result, Cooper is the WR5 in RotoBaller's rookie rankings and the WR37 in RotoBaller's dynasty rankings.

Jets Select Omar Cooper Jr. at No. 30 Overall in NFL Draft

The New York Jets have selected wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr. with the 30th overall selection in the 2026 NFL Draft. New York traded the 33rd and 179th picks in order to move up and select Cooper at No. 30. The move has significant contract implications, as first-round picks are eligible for a fifth-year option. The Jets will now have control over Cooper through 2030, giving them a talented wide receiver to pair with Garrett Wilson. Cooper had an impressive final season at Indiana, catching passes from Fernando Mendoza in the national championship-winning Hoosiers offense. Across 16 games last year, he caught 69 passes, 937 yards, and 13 touchdowns. The Jets continue to supply quarterback Geno Smith with a plethora of weapons, adding Cooper and fellow first-round pick Kenyon Sadiq to an offense that already features Wilson, Breece Hall, and Mason Taylor. As it stands, Cooper ranks as the overall WR50 in RotoBaller's latest dynasty fantasy football rankings.

Could a Team Draft Omar Cooper Jr. Higher Than Expected?

Indiana wide receiver prospect Omar Cooper Jr. continues to generate significant buzz ahead of this week's NFL Draft. According to aggregate mock draft data from NFLMockDraftDatabase.com, Cooper's consensus draft ranking has increased every week since the start of January. He went from ranking as the #93 prospect back in January to the #22 prospect today, just hours before the NFL Draft gets underway. He's currently projected as a mid-to-late first-round pick, but we can't rule out the possibility of him being selected in the first half of the first round. That's because there are a lot of wide receiver-needy teams picking within the first 12 slots. That includes a run of eight consecutive picks belonging to the Titans, Giants (twice), Browns, Commanders, Saints, Chiefs, and Dolphins, all of whom would benefit from a wide receiver upgrade. Cooper has quite the track record as a national champion in Indiana's Fernando Mendoza-led offense. Last season, he caught 69 passes for 937 yards and 13 touchdowns. He's the #5 wide receiver in RotoBaller's latest fantasy football rookie rankings, as well as the WR50 in dynasty leagues.

Omar Cooper Jr. a Top-Five Rookie Receiver in Fantasy Football?

Indiana wide receiver prospect Omar Cooper Jr. could hear his name called in the first round of Thursday's NFL Draft. The national champion has been climbing up draft boards, and not only is he an intriguing selection for NFL teams, but he should continue to generate plenty of buzz among fantasy managers, too. During his final season at Indiana, Cooper caught 69 passes for 937 yards and 13 touchdowns. He was projected No. 1 pick Fernando Mendoza's favorite target during the Hoosiers' championship run. Now, Cooper projects as a top-six rookie in 2026 fantasy football drafts. He ranks as the overall WR5 among the rookie class, and the only non-receiver ahead of him in the rankings is running back Jeremiyah Love. The landing spot could shift Cooper's value a little, but for now, he's a very appealing option in the front half of 2026 rookie drafts.

Omar Cooper Jr. Visits With Jets on Monday

Indiana wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr. took a top-30 pre-draft visit to the New York Jets on Monday, a source told Jordan Reid of ESPN. The Jets are one of many teams looking for receivers in the upcoming NFL draft, and Cooper has been a popular pairing with the Jets, who hold the No. 16 overall pick in the first round. The Jets are pretty high on Cooper, who would be joining Garrett Wilson and Adonai Mitchell as one of the team's top pass-catchers if he were to land in New York. The 22-year-old broke out in his senior season with the Hoosiers in 2025 to help them go undefeated and win the national championship. In 16 games, Cooper had 69 catches for 937 yards and 13 touchdowns while taking passes from quarterback Fernando Mendoza, who is expected to be taken first overall by the Las Vegas Raiders this year. For dynasty/keeper purposes, seeing Cooper land with the Jets definitely wouldn't be great news, as veteran QB Geno Smith is expected to run the offense this year.

Commanders Host Omar Cooper Jr. for a Pre-Draft Visit

The Washington Commanders hosted former Indiana wide receiver and projected first-round pick Omar Cooper Jr. on a pre-draft visit on Friday, according to the NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. Cooper could be a trade-down option for the Commanders, who currently hold the seventh overall pick. The 22-year-old is projected to be taken anywhere from pick No. 13 to pick No. 26 in the first round. He is a skilled slot receiver who can also play on the outside, so his versatility should make him attractive to plenty of receiver-needy NFL teams near the back half of the first round. A landing spot in D.C. would actually be a great spot for Cooper's dynasty/keeper value, as he'd likely immediately become the No. 2 for the Commanders behind Terry McLaurin. Cooper never had a 1,000-yard season in four seasons with the Hoosiers, but he did go out on a high note in 2025 to help Indiana go undefeated and win the national championship, catching 69 passes for 937 yards and 13 touchdowns in 16 games played.

Omar Cooper Jr.'s Stock is Rising as Draft Day Approaches

University of Indiana wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr. was one of the stars of the Hoosiers' National Championship-winning squad in 2025, hauling in 69 receptions for 937 yards and 13 touchdowns across 16 games. The 22-year-old profiles as a physical slot receiver with the ability to both make plays in the red zone and create yards after the catch. He may struggle to consistently win at the catch point on downfield throws, so NFL teams could choose to deploy him closer to the line of scrimmage. Cooper Jr. is currently projected as an early Day 2 pick in the upcoming NFL Draft, and could even hear his name called towards the tail end of the first round. RotoBaller currently ranks him as the 53rd-best wide receiver for dynasty formats, and his stock is rising as draft day approaches.

Omar Cooper Jr. Posts Solid Combine Results, Pushing Towards First-Round Status?

Indiana University wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr. had a solid weekend at the 2026 NFL Draft combine, running a 4.42-second 40-yard dash and recording a 37-inch vertical jump. Cooper Jr. finished off his college career with the Hoosiers this past season by winning a national title. Across 16 games, the 22-year-old recorded 69 receptions for 937 yards and 13 touchdowns. Cooper Jr. profiles as a physical slot receiver with some ability to line up on the outside and win against NFL cornerbacks as well. NFL.com's Lance Zierlein comps Cooper Jr. to Washington Commanders wide receiver Deebo Samuel Sr., and labels Cooper Jr. as an "ascending" day two prospect. Depending on where he lands, Cooper Jr. could provide immediate fantasy value in 2026. RotoBaller currently ranks him as the WR68 for dynasty formats.
