Jets Looking for "Sizable Jump" From Adonai Mitchell

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler writes that wide receiver Adonai Mitchell "should not be overlooked," and that the New York Jets are looking for him to make "a sizable jump" in 2026. Garrett Wilson is the clear-cut No. 1 receiver in New York, but Mitchell "seems to be moving past whatever was holding him back in 1 1/2 seasons" with the Indianapolis Colts to begin his NFL career. The 23-year-old former second-rounder in 2024 from the University of Texas is going to probably have to prove it to be taken more seriously in 12-team fantasy leagues during the regular season, but it's no secret that he's been gaining chemistry with veteran quarterback Geno Smith in training camp this summer, and he's also in a contract year. In eight games with the Colts last year before he was traded to the Jets, Mitchell caught nine passes for 152 yards and zero touchdowns, before catching 24 of 58 targets for 301 yards and two touchdowns in eight contests with the Jets. He's viewed as New York's clear WR2 right now, which makes him a sleeper late in upcoming drafts.

Adonai Mitchell Building Good Chemistry with New QB

New York Jets wide receiver Adonai Mitchell is expected to make a sizable jump this season, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler. Mitchell was the Colts' second-round pick in 2024 but has only had 464 receiving yards in 25 games with the team before coming to the Jets as part of the return in the Sauce Gardner trade. Mitchell has been very strong in training camp, earning praise from coach Aaron Glenn, who said that the combination of Smith and Mitchell "is really starting to impress me." Mitchell is in a contract year as well, which could motivate him to post a big year. He is currently the No. 69 WR in RotoBaller's rankings with a Yahoo fantasy football ADP of 153. He has the potential to be a regular contributor and a nice sleeper play if he locks down the WR2 spot in New York and continues to build a strong connection with Smith.

Adonai Mitchell Making Plays and Impressing His Coach

In his first full offseason with the New York Jets, wide receiver Adonai Mitchell was a spring standout during OTAs and minicamp, and he continues to build chemistry with quarterback Geno Smith through the early stages of training camp. Smith threw four touchdowns during Saturday's competitive portions of practice, with Mitchell on the receiving end of two of them, and head coach Aaron Glenn has taken notice. "That combination of those two guys is really starting to impress me," Glenn told reporters. "I want to see that continue to grow, because obviously [Garrett Wilson] is going to have a lot of attention. AD is going to have to win his one-on-one's which he has all the ability in the world to be able to do that." Mitchell is RotoBaller's WR69, but as the second option in an offense that could be on the rise, he has entered the late-round sleeper discussion and could find weekly viability out of the flex spot.

Adonai Mitchell's Connection With New QB is Standing Out

New York Jets wide receiver Adonai Mitchell has shown strong chemistry with quarterback Geno Smith early in training camp. Smith and Mitchell had a fantastic spring and have picked up right where they left off early in camp. After being traded from the Indianapolis Colts to the Jets during the 2025 season, Mitchell emerged, recording 24 receptions for 301 yards and two touchdowns in eight games with the team. The former second-round pick struggled early in his career with drops and costly mistakes, but has seen a jump in production in New York, with the team's No. 1 receiver, Garrett Wilson, out for most of the 2025 season. Despite Wilson being back and new rookies entering the fold, Mitchell has all the talent and may have found his match with Smith as his quarterback.

Does Adonai Mitchell Have True Breakout Potential as Locked-in Starter?

The Athletic's Zack Rosenblatt lists New York Jets wide receiver Adonai Mitchell as a breakout candidate in 2026 in his first full season with the team. Mitchell has always had significant potential as an elite athlete with the size and athleticism to burn down the field and make contested catches, which is why the Indianapolis Colts selected him with the 52nd overall pick in the second round out of the University of Texas in 2024. It never came together for Mitchell in his one-plus season in Indy, though, as he caught 32 of 71 targets for 464 yards and zero touchdowns in 25 games (eight starts). He showed more flashes of his high-end upside in half a season with the Jets in 2025 with terrible QB play, catching 24 of 58 targets for 301 yards and his first two NFL touchdowns in eight games. Mitchell will enter the 2026 campaign as a locked-in starter for the first time in his career, and he was a standout in offseason practices while showing plenty of chemistry with QB Geno Smith. Receivers Garrett Wilson and rookie Omar Cooper Jr., running back Breece Hall, and rookie tight end Kenyon Sadiq will all draw attention away from Mitchell, potentially leading to a big year. Fantasy managers could do worse than using a late-round flier on Mitchell's talent late in drafts this fall. RotoBaller has Mitchell ranked as the No. 70 fantasy WR for 2026.

Adonai Mitchell to Remain a Big Part of Jets Offense in 2026?

Wide receiver Adonai Mitchell didn't pan out for the Indianapolis Colts after they took him in the second round (52nd overall) in 2024 out of the University of Texas, but he took advantage of the opportunity in a bad New York Jets offense last year after being traded. The 23-year-old had just 23 catches on 55 targets for 312 yards and no touchdowns in 17 games (seven starts) in his rookie campaign before catching nine passes for 152 yards and zero scores in eight games in Indy to begin the 2025 season. But after going to the Big Apple, he caught 24 of 58 targets for 301 yards and the first two TDs of his career. Mitchell still isn't in an ideal situation QB-wise with the Jets, but Geno Smith's veteran leadership could give him some stability, according to NFL.com's Nick Shook. Mitchell could be the Jets' No. 3 wideout behind Garrett Wilson and first-round rookie Omar Cooper Jr., but reports this offseason suggest that he has developed some nice chemistry with Smith. His talent still makes him interesting in deeper fantasy leagues, but Mitchell is going to need to become more efficient with his chances to stand out in 12-team formats in his first full season in New York.

Should Dynasty Managers Look to Sell High on Adonai Mitchell?

New York Jets wide receiver Adonai Mitchell put together the best stretch of his young career in the second half of the 2025 season after New York acquired him from the Indianapolis Colts. Across eight games with the Jets, Mitchell hauled in 24 catches for 301 yards and two touchdowns on 58 targets. However, Mitchell will be facing significantly increased competition for targets in 2026. Star Jets wideout Garrett Wilson will be back from the knee injury that forced him to miss 10 games in 2025. New York also added a pair of high-profile young pass catchers in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft in wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr. and tight end Kenyon Sadiq. The Jets should get improved quarterback play this season from veteran quarterback Geno Smith, but the team's overall offensive ecosystem remains highly questionable. In dynasty formats, managers may want to explore selling high on Mitchell ahead of potential regression in 2026.

Adonai Mitchell's Chemistry With New Jets QB is Growing

The Athletic's Zack Rosenblatt writes that Adonai Mitchell and Geno Smith "feel like a wide receiver-quarterback pairing built to play together." Mitchell, who has the size at 6-foot-2 and 205 pounds to win jump balls all over the field, could work well with the veteran Smith, who has the arm strength and confidence to test any area of the field. Mitchell and Smith's chemistry "appears to be growing" in the early days of the offseason program. The 23-year-old pass-catcher said that Smith is "a baller," and added, "He's a natural leader. He's the alpha of the room, that's the best way I could put it. He takes initiative, he communicates very well." After being acquired from the Indianapolis Colts in a midseason trade last year, Mitchell caught 24 of his 58 targets for 301 yards and two touchdowns in eight games with the Jets. The former second-rounder in 2024 out of the University of Texas made an immediate impact for Gang Green, despite terrible QB play. However, that also came with Garrett Wilson out of action due to a knee injury. Smith was one of the worst signal-callers in the league in 2025 with the Raiders, but if he takes a liking to Mitchell in the Big Apple this year, Mitchell has the athleticism, size, and speed to become a threat over a full season. Right now, he's ranked as RotoBaller's No. 76 fantasy wideout for 2026.

Is Adonai Mitchell Still Worthy of a Dynasty Roster Spot?

The New York Jets provided wide receiver Adonai Mitchell with a much-needed change of scenery midway through the 2025 season by acquiring him from the Indianapolis Colts as part of the return package for cornerback Sauce Gardner. After recording just nine receptions across eight games with the Colts, Mitchell hauled in 24 catches for 301 yards and two touchdowns across eight games with the Jets. Mitchell flashed big-play upside with New York, but he also showcased the inconsistency that got him run out of town in Indianapolis. The 23-year-old successfully pulled in just 24 of 58 targets (41% catch rate) with the Jets and owns a 15.2% drop rate across two NFL seasons. Mitchell's role in New York may also be shrinking heading into 2026, as the team will get back star wideout Garrett Wilson from a knee injury and used first-round picks on wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr. and tight end Kenyon Sadiq this past April. Mitchell maintains some dynasty upside, but the prospect pedigree that made him a second-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft is fading quickly.

Adonai Mitchell Unlikely to be Phased Out of Jets Offense

With the New York Jets spending two first-round picks on rookie pass-catchers in the 2026 NFL Draft, third-year wide receiver Adonai Mitchell has fallen all the way to WR99 in RotoBaller's dynasty rankings. Given his deployment by the Jets following a 2025 mid-season trade from the Colts, he may not be overly impacted by the additions of tight end Kenyon Sadiq and possession receiver Omar Cooper Jr. Both rookies found most of their collegiate success working in the short-to-intermediate areas of the field, particularly over the middle. The two combined to see more than 54% of their 2025 targets between the hashes, within 10 yards of the line of scrimmage. By contrast, Mitchell saw only four total targets in that area across his eight games with the Jets, leading all qualified receivers on the team with a 14.6-yard average depth of target while playing more than 80% of his snaps on the outside. The retreading of quarterback Geno Smith and offensive coordinator Frank Reich may not have been the most inspired choices, but the Jets offense appears to be trending in the right direction, and if the 23-year-old Mitchell can clean up the 15.2% drop rate that has plagued him through two seasons in the league, his big-play ability makes him an intriguing low-cost dynasty buy, particularly in best ball formats.
