Braelon Allen Could Miss 8-12 Weeks, May Need Surgery

According to head coach Aaron Glenn, New York Jets running back Braelon Allen (knee) could miss 8-12 weeks with the MCL sprain he suffered in Week 4's loss to the Miami Dolphins. Reports were that Allen would miss more than the minimum number of required games, but it now appears he'll be out until at least December, with surgery still an option. In the 21-year-old's absence, teammate Isaiah Davis will take over the Jets' RB2 duties behind starter Breece Hall, and the newly-acquired Khalil Herbert will handle the RB3 role with Kene Nwangwu (hamstring) still tending to injury. Fantasy managers can safely drop Allen in all redraft formats as the likelihood of him making an impact to close out the 2025 season remains low.

Braelon Allen Headed For Injured Reserve

New York Jets running back Braelon Allen (knee) will be placed on injured reserve later Thursday, according to Rich Cimini of ESPN. Allen sustained the injury during the Jets' Monday Night Football loss at Miami and did not return to the game. Cimini said the club isn't certain if the injury will be season-ending, but it certainly will be more than the minimum four weeks required for an IR stint. Without Allen, it seems highly likely fellow running back Breece Hall will receive the vast majority of work out of the Jets' backfield for the time being.

Braelon Allen has "Pretty Serious Knee Injury"

New York Jets running back Braelon Allen (knee) has a "pretty serious knee injury," according to head coach Aaron Glenn. However, the Jets are not unveiling their Injured Reserve plans just yet, and Allen is seeking a second opinion. Allen took a shot to his knee during a kickoff return in Monday night's loss to the Miami Dolphins and is going to miss some time. If he is forced to go on IR, Allen would have to miss at least four games. The 21-year-old reportedly suffered an MCL sprain. With Allen injured, Breece Hall could see even more touches in New York's backfield, with Isaiah Davis stepping into a backup role. Davis is worth a waiver-wire pickup for those looking for more RB depth or if you have Hall rostered. Through the first four weeks in 2025, Allen has 18 carries for 76 yards and a touchdown while catching only two passes for 17 yards through the air.

Braelon Allen Diagnosed with MCL Sprain

New York Jets second-year running back Braelon Allen (knee) left Monday night's game against the Dolphins and has since been diagnosed with an MCL sprain that will likely land him on IR. Allen is expected to receive additional opinions, but if he is placed on IR, he'll miss at least four games. Despite a fumble near the goal line, Allen had been running hard in the game, turning four carries into 26 yards. If Allen is indeed sidelined, the Jets will look to consolidate carries between Breece Hall and Isaiah Davis, making Hall a must-start for the foreseeable future and Davis an attractive option on waiver wires. In his limited action last season, Davis was the most efficient Jets running back, averaging nearly six yards per carry. He has seen only 10 opportunities this year, through the air and on the ground, but he's turned that into over 50 yards, and at 220 pounds, he should not look out of place handling Allen's duties in short-yardage situations.

Braelon Allen Injures Knee on Monday Night, Quickly Ruled Out

New York Jets running back Braelon Allen (knee) suffered a knee injury in the first half of the Monday night game against the division-rival Miami Dolphins and has already been ruled out, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network. Allen's knee took a pretty nasty shot in the second quarter on a kickoff return. The 21-year-old was able to walk to the locker room under his own power, but he was quickly ruled out. Before the injury, he carried the ball four times for 26 yards. With Allen out the rest of the way to close out Week 4 action, Isaiah Davis will see more work in New York's backfield as a change-of-pace option behind Breece Hall. Allen came into Monday night's action with 14 rushing attempts for 50 yards (3.6 yards per game) and one rushing touchdown in three games in a struggling Jets offense. He's merely been a handcuff for Hall's owners, but it's possible he won't be able to play in Week 5 against the Dallas Cowboys.

Braelon Allen Unreliable Despite Juicy Matchup

New York Jets running back Braelon Allen remains a steady on-field contributor, but won't be a viable fantasy option for Week 4's Monday night road meeting with the Miami Dolphins. The 21-year-old out-produced backfield mate Breece Hall on the ground in their loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last weekend (30-21) despite garnering three fewer carries. He also saw a season-high in targets, reeling in both for an additional 17 yards. Still, he worked behind Hall there, too (4/31), as the veteran presents as the better receiving option. Allen is clearly ahead of teammate Isaiah Davis, but with Hall in the picture, he's relegated to a change-of-pace role. Even in an outstanding matchup with a hapless Dolphins' run defense, the former Wisconsin Badger can't be trusted for fantasy purposes. He's RotoBaller's PPR RB40 ahead of Week 4.

Braelon Allen Carving Out Short-Yardage Role

New York Jets running back Braelon Allen ran well in Week 3's 29-27 loss to the hosting Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but fell victim to a negative game script and failed to gain traction. Allen led starting rusher Breece Hall on Sunday with 30 yards on six carries (9/21), but both trailed quarterback Tyrod Taylor (8/48). The 21-year-old also pulled in both of his targets for 17 more yards, marking his highest usage this season. It mainly was for not, though, as New York was further behind in this one than the box score would suggest. While Allen doesn't quite yet present with standalone value - primarily due to his offensive environment - he appears to be New York's preferred short-yardage option. He boasts two more red zone carries (four) than backfield mate Breece Hall and the lone touchdown between them. The Wisconsin product remains a high-end handcuff.

Braelon Allen's Role in Flux as Week 3 Approaches

New York Jets running back Braelon Allen heads into this weekend's road matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with questions regarding his role. The University of Wisconsin product scored a touchdown in Week 1, albeit on an inefficient six carries and nine yards. He was more effective in last weekend's loss to the Bills, but toted the rock only twice and saw his snap share shrink from 31% to 19%. In turn, backfield mate Isaiah Davis saw more work. Although Davis did not see a carry, he was targeted thrice, meaning the split between him and Allen could be more game script dependent than hierarchy in the depth chart. Whatever the outcome, it muddies the situation, making it difficult to discern the precise course of action to take regarding the handcuff to own behind teammate Breece Hall. Currently, Allen still has the best odds to come out ahead in that race and has the highest (touchdown-dependent) upside of the Jets' second-year rushers. He's RotoBaller's PPR RB51 in this week's ranks.

Backfield Battle Brewing for Braelon Allen?

New York Jets second-year running back Braelon Allen took a step back in Week 2 regarding his share of offensive snaps. The Buffalo Bills manhandled the Jets to the tune of 30-10 at home, and whether it was due to game script or by design, Allen handled a significantly smaller snap total than in Week 1. This past weekend, the 21-year-old saw the field just nine times -- one fewer than teammate Isaiah Davis -- a stark contrast to the 20-8 lead he boasted in their matchup with Pittsburgh. The situation regarding the duo could ultimately come down to a hot-hand approach, making it murky precisely which one to own for handcuff purposes. One thing is clear, and it's that this is Breece Hall's backfield to lose. The Jets' offense seems less stable than it did a week ago, but keeping tabs on the backup here is a worthwhile endeavor.

Braelon Allen's Ceiling Capped as No. 2 Backfield Option

New York Jets running back Braelon Allen projects again to play second fiddle in the team's backfield this Sunday when they take on the Buffalo Bills at home. The 21-year-old was able to punch in a rushing score last weekend in their loss to the Steelers, but was the clear-cut second option behind running mate Breece Hall. The latter out-touched the former 21-6, and Allen did not receive a target in the passing game. Even if he does operate as New York's goal line back - which has not been noted or confirmed - that role would not guarantee fantasy points as he'll be subject to Justin Fields stealing touches in that area. For now, Allen should continue to mix in behind Hall as the foremost change-of-pace option. While that's the case, his value will come primarily as a high-end handcuff. The second-year pro ranks as RotoBaller's PPR RB39 ahead of Week 2.
