Los Angeles Rams inside linebacker Troy Reeder (hamstring) and defensive end Larrell Murchison (foot) were both ruled out for Sunday's Divisional Round playoff matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles despite practicing in full on Friday. In addition, cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon (thigh) and nose tackle Bobby Brown III (shoulder) are questionable, but head coach Sean McVay expects them both to suit up in Philadelphia. The 30-year-old Reeder was just designated to return from Injured Reserve on Thursday, so it's not much of a surprise that he won't be available this weekend. And if the Rams pull the upset against the Eagles, Reeder still wouldn't be a lock to come off IR to play in the NFC Championship next weekend. He has not played since Week 7 due to his hamstring injury. In six games before getting hurt, Reeder had 46 tackles (26 solo) in his sixth year in LA.
The Los Angeles Rams re-signed linebacker Troy Reeder to an undisclosed deal on Thursday. Reeder entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2019 out of Delaware with the Rams and spent the first three years of his career in LA before joining the Chargers in 2022. In 17 regular-season games (six starts) for the Rams in 2023, he had 23 tackles (11 solo). The 29-year-old has mostly been a special-teams standout in his five years in the NFL and has accumulated 264 tackles (154 solo), five sacks, 11 tackles for loss, eight QB hits, two interceptions, nine passes defended and three forced fumbles in 83 games played (31 starts). Reeder will not be on the radar for fantasy managers in IDP leagues. On the defensive side, he'll merely be a rotational depth linebacker.
Former Los Angeles Rams linebacker Troy Reeder signed an undisclosed one-year deal with the Los Angeles Chargers on Saturday, according to a league source. Reeder had a fine season in 2021 with the Rams, racking up a career-high 91 tackles (48 solo), six tackles for loss, four QB hits, two sacks, two interceptions and six passes defensed in 17 games (10 starts) in his third season with the team. The Rams decided not to tender the 27-year-old, which allowed him to hit the open market. The undrafted linebacker from Delaware should help the Chargers and their atrocious run defense from a year ago. Reeder has 230 tackles (137 solo), 11 tackles for loss, eight QB hits, five sacks, two interceptions, eight passes defensed and two forced fumbles in three NFL seasons.
The Los Angeles Rams are not tendering a contract to impending restricted free-agent linebacker Troy Reeder, according to a source. Reeder started 10 games at linebacker last year and recorded 91 tackles (48 solo), six tackles for loss, four QB hits, two interceptions, six passes defensed and two sacks in 17 games (10 starts). The Rams have other pressing priorities on defense, like signing pass-rushers Aaron Donald and Von Miller to extensions. In three seasons in Los Angeles, Reeder has produced 230 tackles (137 solo), 11 tackles for loss, eight QB hits, two interceptions, eight passes defensed and five sacks in 49 games (25 starts). He should generate plenty of interest on the open market.
