Orlando Brown Jr. News
Four-time Pro Bowl left tackle and Super Bowl champion Orlando Brown Jr. is finalizing a four-year, $64.092 million front-loaded deal with the Cincinnati Bengals on Wednesday night that includes over a $31 million signing bonus, which is the largest ever for an offensive lineman. The Kansas City Chiefs surprisingly let Brown walk in free agency after he helped them win the Super Bowl last season, instead replacing him with Jawaan Taylor. It's a huge bonus for the Bengals' offensive line and quarterback Joe Burrow, as the 26-year-oLD Brown is easily one of the league's best blind-side protectors. Protection for Burrow has been an issue for the Bengals, but Brown is a massive upgrade.
The Kansas City Chiefs will not use the franchise tag on impending free-agent offensive tackle Orlando Brown, according to a source. It was expected that the Chiefs would use the franchise tag on Brown for the second straight season, but that won't happen. The Chiefs now have until March 13 to try and re-sign the 26-year-old left tackle to a long-term contract extension. If they can't get anything done, Brown will hit the open market. Kansas City desperately wants to keep him around as quarterback Patrick Mahomes' blind-side protector, so the fact that they aren't using the tag on the four-time Pro Bowler probably means that they are optimistic about getting something done long term.
Kansas City Chiefs general manager Brett Veach said that the team has been in discussions with left tackle Orlando Brown on a long-term contract extension. Brown played the 2023 season under the franchise tag and is likely to receive the tag for the second straight season by next Tuesday's deadline. However, there appears to be more optimism that the team can sign him to a long-term deal this time around after he declined a six-year, $139 million deal last offseason. The 26-year-old has been a Pro Bowler in each of the last four seasons, with his last two coming in Kansas City, and the Chiefs aren't going to let quarterback Patrick Mahomes' blind-side protector get away.
