Orlando Brown News
Kansas City Chiefs left tackle Orlando Brown Jr. will report to training camp on Monday and will play the 2022 season on the franchise tag. Sources close to Brown say he's in the best shape of his life and knows how important the first five days of padded practice are for him, the team and head coach Andy Reid. The 26-year-old's holdout in training camp will end, which is great news for quarterback Patrick Mahomes and the entire Chiefs offense as they prepare for the 2022 season. The former third-rounder has made the Pro Bowl each of the last three seasons and was a stabilizing force on Mahomes' blind side in his first year in KC in 2021.
Kansas City Chiefs left tackle Orlando Brown will not report to training camp on Monday, which was the expected outcome after he couldn't come to a contract extension with the team this summer. Brown isn't expected to be at training camp with the Chiefs in St. Joseph, MO, anytime soon. He hasn't signed his franchise tag yet, so he won't be subject to fines for missing training camp practices. The Chiefs offered the 26-year-old a deal that would've been more than San Francisco 49ers' star left tackle Trent Williams' six-year, $138 million deal, but Brown turned it down due to security and structuring issues. After being acquired from the Baltimore Ravens, Brown stepped in immediately last year and was a rock on quarterback Patrick Mahomes' blind side.
The Kansas City Chiefs and left tackle Orlando Brown made a final run at a long-term contract extension before Friday's deadline, but they couldn't reach an agreement. The Chiefs offered Brown more based on average per year than San Francisco 49ers All-Pro left tackle Trent Williams, but structure and security were the issues. Brown will now play the 2022 season on the franchise tag, and a training camp holdout this summer is possible. The 26-year-old has yet to sign the franchise tender and skipped organized team activities in the spring. Contract issues aside, the three-time Pro Bowler should continue to provide great protection for quarterback Patrick Mahomes when he's on the field.
