Bengals Place Shemar Stewart on Injured Reserve

Cincinnati Bengals defensive end Shemar Stewart (knee) is being placed on injured reserve, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network. Stewart has battled ankle and knee injuries in his first NFL season, limiting him to just five games. The rookie has six tackles so far and has yet to record his first professional sack. He'll now miss a minimum of four weeks, leaving Joseph Ossai and Myles Murphy in line to earn more defensive snaps.

Trey Hendrickson, Shemar Stewart Both Out for Week 11

The Cincinnati Bengals will be without defensive ends Trey Hendrickson (hip, pelvis) and Shemar Stewart (knee) in Week 11 against the Pittsburgh Steelers, per ESPN's Ben Baby. Hendrickson last played in Week 7, so this will mark his fourth straight game on the shelf. The 30-year-old recorded four sacks and eight QB hits before getting injured and might be the only true impact player on the struggling Cincinnati defense. Stewart has had an injury-marred rookie campaign, as he's appeared in just five games in 2025. The 22-year-old is still looking for his first NFL sack. Both Hendrickson and Stewart are considered week-to-week, so they could be back for Cincinnati's Week 12 matchup against the New England Patriots. Without them in the lineup, the Bengals will rely on Joseph Ossai and Myles Murphy to lead their pass rush against Pittsburgh.

Shemar Stewart Week-to-Week With Knee Injury

Cincinnati Bengals head coach Zac Taylor said that rookie first-round defensive end Shemar Stewart (knee) is dealing with a knee injury and is considered week-to-week heading into the team's Week 10 bye, according to Ben Baby of ESPN. Stewart was injured in Sunday's loss to the Chicago Bears and was ruled out towards the end of the game. The 21-year-old's injury comes at a good time as the team heads into their bye, but he'll still be up in the air to return for their Week 11 meeting against the division-rival Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, Nov. 16. The 17th overall pick in April's draft has only played in five games (four starts) so far in his first year in the NFL and is still searching for his first sack. Stewart has only six tackles (two solo) for a Bengals defense that continues to give up points in bunches each week.

Shemar Stewart Ruled Out for Week 4

Cincinnati Bengals defensive end Shemar Stewart (ankle) has been ruled out ahead of the Week 4 matchup against the Denver Broncos. Stewart is set to miss his second game in a row due to an ankle issue. The 2025 first-round pick has been quiet early in the season as he has played only 66 percent of the defensive snaps. The Bengals are hopeful for big things from Stewart once he's healthy to play. For now, Myles Murphy figures to serve as the primary passing rushing option for Monday's contest.

Shemar Stewart Signs Rookie Deal

According to Tom Pelissero, Cincinnati Bengals defensive end Shemar Stewart has signed his rookie deal on Friday. The 17th overall pick will get a four-year, $18.97 million fully guaranteed contract, which includes a $10.4 million signing bonus. After an extremely long standoff, Stewart and the Bengals finally agree to a deal. The Texas A&M product is expected to be an immediate impact player on defense this upcoming season. The Bengals are certainly going to need his help with fellow pass rusher Trey Hendrickson sitting out right now while he awaits a new contract. The Bengals can now switch their attention to getting a deal done with Hendrickson.

Shemar Stewart Remains Unsigned, Doesn't Report to Training Camp

Cincinnati Bengals rookie defensive end Shemar Stewart is the lone first-round pick in the 2024 NFL draft who has not signed his rookie deal, and he did not report to training camp with the rest of the team's rookies on Saturday, according to ESPN's Ben Baby. The 17th overall pick out of Texas A&M didn't take part in any of the offseason workouts, either, due to a contract dispute with the Bengals over the guaranteed money in his first NFL deal. A rumor floated earlier this week that Stewart was considering going back to college with the Aggies in 2025, but Texas A&M coach Mike Elko said Stewart has no intentions of returning to college ball. Stewart would likely need to sue the NCAA in order to gain a final year of collegiate eligibility. The 21-year-old should have a big role in his rookie season, but he's losing valuable development time leading up to it.

Shemar Stewart Not Practicing With College Team

Cincinnati Bengals rookie first-round defensive end Shemar Stewart remains unsigned with training camp just around the corner, and reports surfaced earlier this week that Stewart has been practicing with his former college team at Texas A&M. The Cincinnati Enquirer's Kelsey Conway clarifies that Stewart is a Texas native and is training at A&M by himself while using the school's facilities to get himself ready for his first NFL season. The 21-year-old isn't practicing with his old college team and doesn't appear to be considering returning for another college season in 2025, which was previously reported. Stewart is the only first-rounder that remains unsigned as he continues a dispute with the Bengals over guaranteed money. Bengals players will start reporting to camp this weekend, but it remains to be seen if Stewart will be present.

Shemar Stewart Considering Going Back to College?

According to CBS Sports' Bud Elliot, Cincinnati Bengals first-round rookie pass-rusher Shemar Stewart has been taking part in workouts with Texas A&M, his former college team, and could be considering returning to college in 2025 after being taken by the Bengals with the No. 17 overall pick in April. The 21-year-old has been holding out over default language the Bengals want him to sign as part of his rookie deal that would void all guarantees in his contract. Cincinnati is known for playing hardball with their players, so this isn't really anything new. If Stewart were to return to play for the Aggies this fall, the Bengals wouldn't receive any compensation for losing him, and Stewart would then be allowed to re-enter next year's NFL draft. It's unclear if a resolution is coming soon in this bizarre saga between Stewart and the Bengals.

Shemar Stewart, Bengals Continue Contract Talks, No Progress Made

According to USA Today's Tyler Dragon, the Cincinnati Bengals and rookie defensive end Shemar Stewart have had recent contract discussions. Unfortunately, nothing came from the talks, with Dragon adding that "a resolution doesn't appear to be in sight." Both sides remain at a stalemate regarding "language" in Stewart's contract, which is reportedly different from Cincinnati's selections in previous years. The 2025 No. 17 overall pick refused to participate in mandatory minicamp. It also seems he isn't a lock to show up at training camp. The Bengals made moves to bolster the offense by giving new deals to Ja'Marr Chase, Tee Higgins, and Mike Gesicki. However, the franchise has pumped the brakes on prioritizing contracts on the defensive side of the ball, considering defensive end Trey Hendrickson is also seeking a new deal of his own. With that said, Cincinnati has one of the best offenses in the National Football League. On the other hand, the defense needs work, although things may not improve if Stewart continues to miss out on valuable practice time.

Bengals Still High on Shemar Stewart

Despite the fact that Cincinnati Bengals rookie first-round defensive end Shemar Stewart was the only first-rounder that didn't take part in any offseason workouts due to a contract dispute, the coaching staff remains high on him. "It's a lesson for him in the NFL -- control what you can control," defensive coordinator Al Golden said. "From our standpoint he's done a good job in terms of the learning. We are as excited as anybody to get him out there." The 21-year-old pass-rusher was taken with the 17th overall pick and could take on an even bigger role in his first NFL season if the Bengals end up trading All-Pro pass-rusher Trey Hendrickson. However, despite the fact that Stewart seems like an eager learner, the lack of on-field reps during offseason workouts will most likely shorten his learning curve in 2025. It would be a surprise if Stewart doesn't sign his rookie deal before training camp.
