Joe Flacco To Undergo MRI Next Month

Denver Broncos quarterback Joe Flacco (neck) said he is expected to undergo an MRI exam next month to determine if he will need surgery to fix a herniated disc in his neck. Flacco will also decide at that time if he'll continue his playing career. The veteran quarterback is open to returning in 2020 as the backup to Drew Lock. Flacco will be 35 next month, and he made it just eight games in his first season with Denver before being ruled out for the season. He was a very mediocre game manager in his time under center, going 171-for-262 (65.3 percent) for 1,822 yards, six touchdowns and five interceptions. Flacco's days of fantasy relevance are long gone.

Joe Flacco Placed On IR, Season Over

The Denver Broncos placed quarterback Joe Flacco (neck) on season-ending Injured Reserve on Friday, according to a source. Backup Brandon Allen will start in Week 9 against the Browns, with the team promoting Brett Rypien from the practice squad. The 34-year-old Flacco was a failed experiment for Denver, as he looked done in 2019. He was putrid in eight games, going 171-for-262 (65.3 percent) for 1,822 yards, six touchdowns and five interceptions. It's likely his only season in Denver. Allen might not prove to be much better, though, which hurts the fantasy upside of everyone involved in this offense, most notably wide receiver Courtland Sutton.

Joe Flacco Expected To Be Out 4-6 Weeks

After a second opinion on the bulging disc in his neck, Denver Broncos quarterback Joe Flacco (neck) is expected to be out four to six weeks, according to a source. Flacco isn't expected to need surgery, but at this point it seems like a long shot that he'll play again in 2019, especially with the Broncos nowhere near playoff contention. It's also likely to be Flacco's only season in Denver. Backup Brandon Allen is taking over moving forward, but rookie Drew Lock (thumb) could make some starts to close out the year if he's fully healthy. Allen is not a realistic QB2 option, and his presence under center isn't good news for No. 1 wideout Courtland Sutton.
