Tahj Brooks Ruled Out for Week 13 With Concussion

Cincinnati Bengals head coach Zac Taylor has ruled out rookie running back Tahj Brooks (concussion) for this Thursday's Thanksgiving Day game against the division-rival Baltimore Ravens in Week 13, according to Jay Morrison of SI.com. Brooks suffered a concussion in Sunday's loss to the New England Patriots, and on a short week, the 23-year-old won't be able to clear the league's concussion protocol. Veteran Samaje Perine (ankle) has missed the last two games due to injury and might not be available this week, either, so the Bengals' backfield could be extremely thin behind Chase Brown this week versus Baltimore. If Perine ends up missing a third straight game, expect Gary Brightwell to operate as Cincy's RB2 behind Brown on Turkey Day. Brooks has only nine rushing attempts in 11 games this year for 28 rushing yards.

Tahj Brooks Won't Return Against Patriots

Cincinnati Bengals running back Tahj Brooks (concussion) has been ruled out for the remainder of Sunday's Week 12 contest against the New England Patriots. He was initially listed as questionable while being evaluated, but shortly after, the team downgraded him to out. Brooks finishes Week 12 with five rushing yards on two carries, as well as one uncaught target. On special teams, his lone return went for 20 yards. With Samaje Perine (ankle) sidelined, Gary Brightwell will take over as the No. 2 running back behind Chase Brown for the rest of Sunday's game.

Tahj Brooks Evaluated for Concussion, Questionable to Return Sunday

Cincinnati Bengals running back Tahj Brooks (head) exited during the third quarter of Sunday's Week 12 contest against the New England Patriots to be evaluated for a concussion. According to an announcement from the team, he is officially listed as questionable to return. It's possible that he suffered the injury while returning the Patriots' kick at the start of the second half. At the time of his departure, Brooks had five rushing yards on two carries, as well as one uncaught target. On special teams, his lone return went for 20 yards. With Samaje Perine (ankle) sidelined, Gary Brightwell will take over as the No. 2 running back behind Chase Brown until Brooks can return.

Tahj Brooks May Get Extra Snaps in Week 11, Still Can't be Trusted

Cincinnati Bengals running back Tahj Brooks hasn't done much of anything in his inaugural year. He had the chance to at least claim the No. 2 spot on the depth chart behind Chase Brown. While that wasn't expected early in the season, most had assumed he'd take over as the backup by now. However, that hasn't happened, with Samaje Perine (ankle) still absorbing nearly all of Brown's surplus carries while seeing limited action as a pass-catcher. With Perine ruled out for the Week 11 AFC North battle with the Pittsburgh Steelers, there's potential for Brooks to get more involved. Unfortunately, Brooks likely won't see much more work, if any, which isn't good news for those in need of a deep league streaming option on Sunday. For now, the rookie should be stashed on dynasty rosters while having virtually no redraft value.

Tahj Brooks Should be Nowhere Near a Fantasy Lineup on Sunday

Cincinnati Bengals running back Tahj Brooks didn't log an offensive snap in the Week 1 win over the Browns. Most assumed the rookie would have at least a small role in the offense. However, that didn't happen in the AFC North clash with Cleveland, with Samaje Perine getting 13 snaps and Chase Brown leading the way with 39. Without question, Brown was expected to get most of the work out of the backfield for the Bengals this season. That likely won't change unless he goes down with an injury. Brooks should get some snaps moving forward, but he has a long way to go before earning a spot in redraft lineups, including for the Week 2 meeting with the Jacksonville Jaguars. On the other hand, he's at least worth stashing on dynasty rosters.

Tahj Brooks Not a Viable Fantasy Option Against Cleveland

Cincinnati Bengals running back Tahj Brooks was selected in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft after a lengthy collegiate career at Texas Tech. While he didn't do much in his two preseason contests, he reportedly looked good throughout training camp. With that in mind, Chase Brown is the undisputed No. 1 option out of the backfield. Samaje Perine is back in the mix after signing a two-year deal in the offseason. That leaves little room for Brooks, who will likely get the residual scraps left over by Brown and Perine in Week 1 against the Cleveland Browns. That arrangement will likely extend moving forward. Unfortunately, that won't him a viable option in any format on Sunday and beyond, so he shouldn't be starting in any fantasy lineup.

Tahj Brooks Likely to Remain the No. 3 Back on Depth Chart

According to James Rapien of SI, Cincinnati Bengals running back Tahj Brooks is projected to occupy the No. 3 spot on the depth chart behind Chase Brown and Samaje Perine. "Brown is locked in as the starter and will play a ton," wrote Rapien. "Perine will get plenty of snaps when Brown needs a break or on specific passing downs. Brooks is capable of doing a little bit of everything as a rookie. All three backs will play, but this is expected to be the 'Chase Brown Show.'" The 23-year-old was selected in the sixth round in April's NFL Draft after spending his collegiate career at Texas Tech. While he managed to find a place on the roster, his fantasy value is limited, even in dynasty formats, as long as Brown is in the equation. His worth as an insurance policy is also basically non-existent currently, especially with Perine in the mix. The Bengals will begin the 2025 campaign with a trip to Cleveland to face the Browns in an AFC North showdown.

Tahj Brooks Has Flashed in Camp and Earned a Role

Cincinnati Bengals' sixth round rookie running back has done enough through camp to earn the top backup spot on the latest 53-man projection. Chase Brown showed down the stretch last season that he can thrive in a workhorse role, and projects that the team will keep only three running backs on their initial roster, with Brooks and Perine splitting backup duty. Brooks had an extremely productive college career, and he is built for hard yardage and goal-line work. At 230 pounds, he outweighs Brown by about 15 pounds. His pass-blocking skills have also reportedly carried over as he transitions to the pro game, which is usually one of the most difficult hurdles to clear for a rookie trying to make his way onto the field. Brooks could have standalone value if he's able to vulture goal-line carries, and his upside is as high as any backup in the league should Brown miss time to injury.

Tahj Brooks Handles the Bulk of the Carries on Thursday

Cincinnati Bengals running back Tahj Brooks ran for 26 yards off 10 attempts in Thursday's preseason loss to the Eagles. He added one catch (two targets) for three yards. Chase Brown began the contest with the rest of the starters. While Brooks handled the bulk of the touches, he only averaged 2.6 yards per carry. Despite the subpar showing on Thursday night, the 2025 No. 193 overall pick has looked good throughout training camp and appears to have earned the trust of the coaching staff. However, with Brown expected to get the majority of the snaps out of the backfield in 2025, there could be little room for Brooks to remain consistently involved, even if the rookie manages to secure the No. 2 spot on the depth chart over Samaje Perine. With the Bengals dropping their first game of the preseason, the team will look to get on track versus the Commanders on August 18.

Tahj Brooks Continues to Impress

Cincinnati Bengals running back Tahj Brooks continues to make waves during training camp, with Chris Roling of USA Today reporting that the rookie "just keeps impressing." The Bengals held their annual night practice at Paycor Stadium in front of fans on Saturday. While there were more than a few standouts, there was no denying that Brooks was one of them after he "ripped off a few big runs." The 23-year-old was selected in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft. In his final collegiate season at Texas Tech, he amassed 1,505 yards off 286 touches while finding the end zone a total of 18 times. Of course, Chase Brown is expected to get the bulk of the snaps out of the backfield. However, with the team recently releasing Zack Moss, Brooks may find himself getting more work over Samaje Perine, who the team brought back this offseason.. Although that won't make Brooks a starting fantasy option in redraft leagues, he could see increased value as an insurance policy for Chase's managers, assuming he continues to trend in the right direction heading into Week 1.
