Dodgers
Los Angeles Dodgers relief pitcher Brent Honeywell (fingernail) was placed on the 15-day IL on Thursday with a cracked right fingernail. It is another tough loss for a pitching staff that has gone through the wringer this year in terms of injuries. Honeywell has been a quality relief option that can pitch multiple innings and can be used in any situation, so it'll be tough for the Dodgers to replace come playoffs. The severity of the injury is unknown, but he will be out until at least part of the way through the Wild Card series due to his placement on the IL. Anthony Banda was activated off the IL and is taking Honeywell's spot, so the news isn't all bad for the Dodgers.

Anthony Banda Collects First Save On Sunday
Los Angeles Dodgers relief pitcher Anthony Banda threw a clean ninth inning to preserve a 3-2 win over the Oakland Athletics and pick up his first save of the season. The lefty struck out one and needed just 12 pitches to finish off the A's. It is yet another interesting development in the Dodger's closer situation, which seems nearly impossible to figure out. Any of Evan Phillips, Blake Treinen, Alex Vesia, Daniel Hudson, or now Banda could be in the mix for saves and we will seemingly never know which is the preferred option. It's an absolute mess of a situation, but in saves-plus-holds leagues any of those five are solid options.

Dodgers Acquire Anthony Banda From Guardians
The Los Angeles Dodgers acquired left-hander Anthony Banda from the Cleveland Guardians on Friday in exchange for cash considerations. Banda will head to the Dodgers after posting a 2.12 ERA and 0.94 WHIP with six walks and 25 strikeouts in 17 relief innings for Triple-A Columbus this year. The 30-year-old southpaw will likely report to Triple-A Oklahoma City now and will operate as left-handed relief depth for the Dodgers moving forward. Banda was originally a 10th-round pick of the Milwaukee Brewers in 2012 out of San Jacinto College. He made his big-league debut back in 2017 with the Arizona Diamondbacks and has pitched in the majors with seven different teams since then. Overall, he has a 5.69 ERA and 1.63 WHIP with one save, a weak 19.9% strikeout rate and an 8.9% walk rate.

Guardians Sign Anthony Banda, Dom Nunez To Minor-League Deals
The Cleveland Guardians have signed left-hander Anthony Banda and catcher Dom Nunez to minor-league deals. Both players will receive an invitation to big-league spring training. Banda, 30, made 10 appearances with the Nationals in 2023, posting a 6.43 ERA while walking 14.3% of the 35 hitters he faced across just seven innings of work. He also struggled to a 7.58 ERA across 33 outings (10 starts) at Triple-A a season ago. Nunez, 29, didn't appear in the big leagues in 2023 but rather spent the season at Triple-A between the Pirates and Cubs organizations. He combined to hit just .187 with five home runs and a .637 OPS across 63 games. In the big leagues, he has hit .180 with 12 home runs and a .653 OPS across 111 appearances, all with the Rockies in parts of three seasons from 2019-2022.

Nationals Sign Anthony Banda To Minor-League Deal
Southpaw Anthony Banda signed with the Washington Nationals on a minor-league deal with an invitation to Big League Camp. Banda enters his seventh professional season in the majors and will rep his seventh different uniform. He spent 2022 with three different teams but saw the bulk of action with the Pirates. Banda twirled a 6.41 ERA across 23 appearances before being shipped to the Blue Jays, where he settled for a little while. The 29-year-old was then waived by Toronto and spent the rest of his 2022 campaign in the Bronx with the Yankees. His season totals rounded to a 6.75 ERA with 30 strikeouts and a 4.50 FIP. Banda will certainly not provide any fantasy value, and the Nationals hope to use him as organizational depth.

San Francisco Adds Anthony Banda From Tampa Bay
The San Francisco Giants added left-handed pitcher Anthony Banda to their staff following a trade with the Rays, who had designated Banda for assignment earlier Monday. Banda has been shelled in his limited big league work this season, allowing nine runs (eight earned) in seven innings. Whether San Francisco utilizes Banda in the starting rotation or out of relief remains to be seen, but he has limited left-handed batters to a career .674 OPS. He can remain on the wire for the time being, while having some DFS appeal should the Giants tab him for starts during September.

Anthony Banda Has Tommy John Surgery Thursday
Tampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Anthony Banda underwent Tommy John surgery Thursday. He is expected to be out until 2020. Manager Kevin Cash expressed disappointment and said that Banda was an "exciting young arm." Banda became the fourth Rays prospect to have the surgery this season. Obviously, this eliminates his value in redraft leagues and he becomes mostly just a long-term stash in extremely deep dynasty formats.

Anthony Banda Headed For Tommy John Surgery
Tampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Anthony Banda (elbow) is headed towards season-ending Tommy John surgery. He was optioned to Triple-A in late May after making three appearances for the Rays this season. He held the Orioles to one run while striking out seven over 6 1/3 innings on May 26. Banda is expected to be out until 2020 while he recovers from surgery. Banda is now the third Rays pitching prospect to have Tommy John surgery. Both Jose De Leon and Brent Honeywell had surgeries in spring training.

Chris Archer Questionable Friday, Anthony Banda Hurt
Tampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Chris Archer (groin) is questionable for his start Friday versus Seattle. He left the game Saturday with tightness. Archer still felt it Sunday and so he will see a specialist on Monday. It could turn out to be minor but Archer is unsure and says he has not had this type of injury before. One of the players who could have taken his spot in the rotation was Anthony Banda. However, Banda is currently on the Triple-A disabled list with a forearm strain that "has the potential to be a serious injury". Banda was a key part of the deal with Arizona that sent Steven Souza out of town. He also drew praise for how his stuff looked Tuesday. His fastball was in the mid-90s while his offspeed pitches looked like they could be effective going forward. He does have some potential upside going forward, especially in long-term formats. Archer has the upside to be a strong fantasy asset, but the weakness of the Rays will impact his winning potential.

Anthony Banda Has Great Outing Saurday, Then Sent Down
Tampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Anthony Banda had a roller coaster day Saturday including a win versus Baltimore. He came in as the second pitcher in the new format and pitched 6 1/3 innings allowing only one run. He allowed only three hits and one walk to go with seven strikeouts to pick up his first victory of the season. He would then get sent down to the minors after the game to get a fresh arm into the bullpen. Banda was a key part of the deal with Arizona that sent Steven Souza out of town. He pitched eight games in 2017 for the Diamondbacks with four starts and an ERA of 5.96. However, he has impressed coaches in the Rays organization. He also drew praise for how his stuff looked Tuesday. His fastball was in the mid-90s while his offspeed pitches looked like they could be effective going forward. He does have some potential upside going forward, especially in long-term formats.
