Dillon Dingler Continues Breakout Season With Two Homers Against Cubs

Detroit Tigers catcher Dillon Dingler helped lead the Tigers to an 8-6 victory on Monday night at Wrigley Field over the Chicago Cubs by going 4-for-5 at the plate with two home runs, three RBI, and three runs scored to boost his season average to .268 and his OPS to .856. Both of the 27-year-old backstop's home runs on the night were of the solo variety. The former second-round pick in 2020 out of The Ohio State University has been a true breakout in 2026, slashing .268/.332/.524 with 21 home runs, 63 RBI, and 52 runs scored in 91 games across 379 plate appearances to earn All-Star honors for the first time in his second full season in the majors. Dingler's homers on Monday were his first since clearing the fences back on June 25. In 12 games and 50 plate appearances in July, Dingler is batting .289 (13-for-45) with an .849 OPS, two home runs, three doubles, four RBI, and seven runs scored for the Tigers. He has become a must-start in single-catcher leagues and is rostered in 88% of Yahoo leagues in the midst of his breakout campaign.

Dillon Dingler Remains Out on Friday With Thumb Injury

Detroit Tigers catcher Dillon Dingler (thumb) is out of the starting lineup for the second straight game for Friday's series opener against the visiting Philadelphia Phillies due to a thumb injury, according to MLB.com. Jake Rogers will make another start behind the dish and catch right-hander Jack Flaherty while hitting ninth against Phillies right-hander Aaron Nola. Dingler injured his thumb when he was hit by a foul tip on Wednesday, and he was removed from the contest early. He's day-to-day, though, and has a shot to return to the starting lineup in one of the last two games of the first half of the regular season on Saturday or Sunday in Detroit. The 27-year-old right-handed-hitting backstop is having a breakout 2026 campaign, slashing .264/.325/.516 with an .841 OPS, 19 home runs, 60 RBI, and 48 runs scored across his 318 at-bats in just his second full MLB season. Dingler ranks third among catchers in homers, is first in RBI, and is fifth in runs scored. UPDATE: Manager A.J. Hinch said it's uncertain if Dingler will play in either of the final two games of the first half of the season this weekend due to his thumb injury, per MLive.com's Evan Woodbery.

Dillon Dingler Out on Thursday, Considered Day-to-Day

Detroit Tigers catcher Dillon Dingler (thumb) is out of the starting lineup for Thursday's contest against the visiting Athletics, but he said his hand feels "10 times better" than it did on Wednesday, according to Tigers reporter Logan Reever. The All-Star catcher will be day-to-day as the team waits for the swelling in his right thumb to go down. Detroit is encouraged about a quick return, possibly on Friday for the series opener against the Philadelphia Phillies. Jake Rogers will do the catching for left-hander Framber Valdez in the series finale against the A's on Thursday and will hit eighth against left-hander Jose Suarez. Dingler departed Wednesday's game early after a foul tip hit his thumb, but thankfully, X-rays came back clean, and he could play again this weekend before next week's All-Star break. The 27-year-old right-handed-hitting backstop is rostered in 89% of Yahoo leagues thanks to a breakout 2026 campaign. Dingler came into Thursday with a .264/.325/.516 slash line, .841 OPS, 19 home runs, 60 RBI, and 48 runs scored across 318 at-bats in his second full season in the majors.

Dillon Dingler Pulled With Thumb Injury

Detroit Tigers catcher Dillon Dingler (thumb) left Wednesday's game against the Athletics early. Dingler took a foul tip off his right thumb during the first inning of this contest. The Tigers decided to play it safe and pull Dingler out of the game for precautionary reasons. The expectation is that Dingler is headed for X-rays so that the team can rule out any significant injuries. The 27-year-old was named to the American League All-Star team recently, so hopefully he'll be ready to go for that. Jake Rogers took over behind the plate and figures to see a bulk of the time behind the plate while Dingler is down. UPDATE: X-rays on Dingler's right hand came back negative, per The Detroit News' Chris McCosky.

Dillon Dingler Heating Up in June, has Monster Game on Tuesday

Detroit Tigers catcher Dillon Dingler went 4-for-5 at the plate with two home runs, a double, four RBI, three runs scored, and a strikeout in the team's 10-4 win over the division-rival Minnesota Twins on Tuesday night. The 27-year-old third-year player is now hitting .248/.329/.528 with an .857 OPS, 16 home runs, 13 doubles, 48 RBI, and 32 runs scored in 60 games across 248 plate appearances in what has quickly become a breakout campaign for the former second-round pick in 2020 out of The Ohio State University. After stumbling late in May with just six hits in 51 plate appearances in 12 games to close out the month, Dingler has come alive since the calendar flipped to June, going 11-for-28 (.393) with five home runs, two doubles, 14 RBI, and nine runs scored in 32 plate appearances across seven games. He has two four-hit performances in that span. Dingler has quickly become one of the best offensive producers at catcher in 2026, and he's still available in 20% of Yahoo leagues.

Dillon Dingler Swinging a Hot Bat Recently, Becoming a Must-Add Catcher?

Detroit Tigers catcher Dillon Dingler has been hot recently, collecting a hit in five of his last nine games with two home runs and seven RBI during that stretch. Overall, Dingler is slashing .259/.348/.517 with four home runs, 14 RBI, and nine runs over 18 games. The 27-year-old has seen increases across the board in xBA (.328) and xSLG (.694), and his HardHit% (59.1%). His K% (18.2%) has decreased by about five points from 2025 (23.5%). For fantasy managers needing catcher help, Dingler is emerging as an add candidate in leagues with 12 teams or more. He is currently rostered in 37% of Yahoo Fantasy leagues and is 57th overall in the latest RotoBaller waiver rankings for Week 3.

Dillon Dingler Flashing High-End Upside Early in 2026

Across his first 53 plate appearances of 2026, Detroit Tigers catcher Dillon Dingler is hitting .250/.353/.477 with three home runs, 11 RBI, and eight runs scored. The 27-year-old emerged as the starting catcher in Detroit with a breakout season in 2025, hitting .278 with 13 home runs across 469 plate appearances. Dingler's underlying metrics are even stronger in a small sample size this season, as he's posted a 16.7% barrel rate and 52.8% hard-hit rate. Dingler has also cut his strikeout rate from 23.5% to 18.9%. If Dingler's current batting average on balls in play of .258 regresses closer to the .345 mark he posted in 2025, he could be on the verge of emerging as a high-end starting fantasy catcher. In leagues where he's not already rostered, Dingler profiles as a priority waiver wire target for fantasy managers.

Dillon Dingler Expected to be Ready for Opening Day

Detroit Tigers catcher Dillon Dingler (elbow) is working through a return-to-play throwing progression this week and is quickly approaching his return. The backstop is expected to be a full-go for Opening Day. Dingler had a delayed start to the offseason after undergoing arthroscopic surgery in January. Managers should continue to monitor the 27-year-old's status, but he appears well-positioned to avoid a delayed start to the regular season. Last summer, Dingler spent the entire campaign in the majors and did not disappoint, posting a .278/.327/.425 line with 21 doubles and 13 home runs. Under the hood, Dingler generated an elite .290 xBA with a 42.3% LA sweet-spot%, which placed him in the 98th percentile among qualified hitters. When active, managers should expect Dingler to carry solid No. 2 catcher upside, as he should see most of the starting opportunities in Detroit.

Detroit Tigers catcher Dillon Dingler (elbow) will be eased into spring training after undergoing a scope on his throwing elbow, according to Chris McCosky of the Detroit News. Dingler had a similar arthroscopic surgery on his right arm two years ago, and he doesn't expect to miss much of camp. The 27-year-old is expected to be the Tigers' primary catcher in 2026 after winning a Gold Glove behind the plate in 2025. If he has a setback once he returns to baseball activities, Jake Rogers would be in line to take over starting duties to begin the season. Dingler hit .278/.327/.425 with a .752 OPS, 13 home runs, 57 RBI, and 54 runs scored in 126 regular-season games in his first full season in the big leagues last year. He cut his strikeout rate drastically from his rookie season, but a .345 BABIP buoyed his batting average. Dingler will be in play as a No. 2 catcher in two-catcher fantasy leagues.

Dillon Dingler Blasts Solo Shot

Detroit Tigers catcher Dillon Dingler went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Thursday's 4-1 win against the Orioles. The homer was his seventh of the season, to go along with a .283/.313/.455 slash line. It's the second home run of the month for the 26-year-old, who has cemented himself as the full-time backstop for Detroit over backup Jake Rogers. While he may not be the most exciting option of the many young catchers having breakout seasons, he features above-average power and a solid batting average for the position. He makes for a good lower-end option for two-catcher leagues.
