Giants Select Arvell Reese with Fifth Overall Pick

The New York Giants have selected Ohio State edge rusher/linebacker Arvell Reese with the fifth overall selection in the 2026 NFL Draft. Reese has spent his entire three-year college career with the Ohio State Buckeyes and won a National Championship with them during the 2024 season. After playing a limited role in his first year, Reese would gradually find a role for them over the past two campaigns. In 2024, Reese would log 0.5 sacks with 18 solo tackles. In 2025, Reese would take another step forward, totaling 6.5 sacks with 34 solo tackles and 10.0 tackles for loss. He would be named consensus All-American at the conclusion of this season. Per scouting reports, Reese is credited for not shying away from contact and having strong instincts to track down ball carriers. Reese will join a New York defense that allowed a high 25.8 PPG last season and totaled 39.0 total sacks.

Arvell Reese Could Generate Trade Interest in the Top 10 of NFL Draft

The NFL Network's Ian Rapoport says that Ohio State linebacker Arvell Reese is expected to garner "significant trade interest" if he's still available at No. 4 or No. 5 overall in this year's 2026 NFL draft, which kicks off on Thursday night. The New Orleans Saints, who hold the No. 8 overall pick, are a team that might be interested in trading up within the top 10 picks of the first round for Reese. Rapoport also mentions the Kansas City Chiefs, a team that is also looking for an edge rusher and who have been rumored to be trying to trade up with the Arizona Cardinals for the No. 3 overall pick. Reese has the potential to be a game-changing edge rusher at the next level for any team that ends up taking him in the top 10 picks of this year's draft. He had seven sacks in his three-year collegiate career at Ohio State, and he totaled 34 solo tackles, 6.5 sacks, and 10 tackles for loss in 14 games in his final season as a Buckeye in 2025.

Jets "Leaning Toward" Arvell Reese at No. 2 Overall

Ohio State linebacker Arvell Reese appears to be "the best fit" for the New York Jets at No. 2 overall in the NFL Draft, according to Rich Cimini of ESPN.com. General manager Darren Mougey recently said the Jets haven't identified who they'll select with the pick, but Cimini drew the conclusion that New York is leaning toward Reese based on comments made by head coach Aaron Glenn at last week's annual league meetings. He cited the Jets' plans to use multiple different defensive fronts, since Reese displayed scheme versatility in college. Glenn also said that he compared Reese to Danielle Hunter in the sense that both players have a rare blend of football traits and character. Reese is coming off a terrific junior season in which he logged 69 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, and 6.5 sacks.
