Matt Gay News
Kicker Matt Gay officially signed his one-year restricted free-agent tender offer and will return to the Los Angeles Rams in 2022. The Rams placed an original-round tender on Gay and linebacker Travin Howard on March 16. Gay was a first-time Pro Bowler last year when he made 32 of his 34 field-goal tries, including 23 straight successful field goals. He also missed just one of his 49 extra-point attempts during the regular season. The 28-year-old went 8-for-10 on field goals in the postseason, including the game-winner in the Divisional Round against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Kicking for the defending Super Bowl champions, Gay will be a popular fantasy kicker heading into drafts this fall.
The Los Angeles Rams placed an original-round restricted free-agent tender on kicker Matt Gay. According to Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network, the tender is worth $2.54 million. The cost for an NFL team to sign Gay to an offer sheet would be a fifth-round pick. The 28-year-old is one of the most consistent kickers in fantasy, converting 32 of 34 field-goal attempts and going 48-for-49 in extra-point tries over 17 games in 2021. Gay will be one of the top-five kickers off the board in upcoming fantasy drafts if he remains on the Rams.
Los Angeles Rams kicker Matt Gay made his lone field-goal try from 41 yards out in the 23-20 win over the Cincinnati Bengals in Super Bowl LVI on Sunday. He also made both of his extra-point attempts in the game, but he could have had a third -- the holder dropped the ball just as Gay was about to kick it through the uprights, resulting in no points after the Rams second touchdown of the night. The 27-year-old made his first Pro Bowl in his third NFL season and was one of the most consistent kickers from a real-life and fantasy perspective in 2021. Gay finished the regular season as the No. 3 fantasy kicker by making 32 of his 34 field-goal tries and 48 of his 49 extra points in 17 games. He should once again be a top-five fantasy kicker in 2022.
