Chargers
Los Angeles Chargers offensive tackle Rashawn Slater became eligible for a contract extension at the end of last season. The Chargers picked up his fifth-year option in May, meaning he is under contract through the 2025 season. Slater has become an elite tackle, and the price for that position is only going up. Lions right tackle Penei Sewell, drafted six spots ahead of Slater in the first round in 2021, signed for $28 million in average annual value earlier this offseason. It will be interested to see if the Bolts wait to see Slater play in the new offense under head coach Jim Harbaugh before they commit to him long-term. The 25-year-old former 13th overall pick in 2021 out of Northwestern will be even more important to LA's offense in 2024 as they look to become more of a physical, run-first unit under Harbaugh and new offensive coordinator Greg Roman.

Chargers Exercise Fifth-Year Option On Rashawn Slater
The Los Angeles Chargers exercised the 2025 fifth-year option on left tackle Rashawn Slater on Saturday, according to a source. Slater and Joe Alt, the No. 5 overall pick in the first round of the 2024 NFL draft on Thursday night, will now bookend the team's offensive line for quarterback Justin Herbert going forward. This one comes as no surprise as new head coach Jim Harbaugh and offensive coordinator Greg Roman look to shore up the team's offensive line with a new emphasis on the ground game in 2024 and beyond. Slater graded out as Pro Football Focus' fourth-best pass-blocking offensive lineman on Herbert's blind side. The addition of Alt to the right side should only strengthen Herbert's protection while also being good news for LA's ground game.

Rashawn Slater Is 100 Percent Healthy
Los Angeles Chargers left tackle Rashawn Slater (biceps) tore his bicep muscle in Week 3 last year and didn't play again the rest of the season. However, he said his bicep has been "100 percent" healthy for at least the last couple of months. He has been training with personal offensive-line trainer Duke Manyweather alongside teammates Trey Pipkins III and Foster Sarell. With a starting O-line of Slater, Zion Johnson, Corey Linsley, Jamaree Salyer and Pipkins, the Chargers will enter the 2023 season with one of the most solid offensive lines they've had in recent memory. "I just feel like the potential is insane with us," Slater said of the young group. "It's a really cool thing to be a part of." If they can stay healthy all year, they'll be a huge boost for quarterback Justin Herbert and running back Austin Ekeler.

Rashawn Slater Designated To Return From Injured Reserve
Los Angeles Chargers offensive tackle Rashawn Slater (biceps) has been designated to return from the injured reserve. Slater has been out since he tore his biceps tendon towards the end of September. He won't suit up for the playoff matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars. However, Slater has a chance at returning during the postseason, assuming the Chargers advance. He would certainly give his offensive line a boost if he's able to get back on the field this season.

Rashawn Slater Could Return This Season
Los Angeles Chargers tackle Rashawn Slater (bicep) has a chance to return later this season, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com. While the initial plan was for Slater to miss the rest of the campaign, the Chargers will consider using one of their eight "return from IR" designations on him so that he can play late in the regular season and into the playoffs. In the meantime, Jamaree Salyer, a sixth-round rookie out of Georgia, will start at left tackle.

Rashawn Slater Expected To Miss Rest Of The Season
Los Angeles Chargers Pro Bowl left tackle Rashawn Slater (biceps) suffered a ruptured left biceps tendon in the Week 3 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars and is expected to miss the rest of the season, according to a source. It's a brutal loss for the offensive line and the Chargers offense as a whole, especially with quarterback Justin Herbert playing through a painful ribs injury that he suffered in the Week 2 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Slater was the team's first-round pick in 2021 and made the Pro Bowl in his first NFL season. The Chargers may be forced to turn to Storm Norton to protect Herbert's blind side moving forward, which could cause plenty of protection issues, starting in Week 4 against the Houston Texans.

Rashawn Slater Injured In Week 3 Loss
Los Angeles Chargers offensive tackle Rashawn Slater (biceps) sustained a bicep injury and exited in the third quarter of Sunday's loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. He was replaced by six-year veteran Storm Norton. Unfortunately, the injury could be significant as the 2021 first-round NFL Draft selection was spotted after the game with his arm in a sling. More information on Slater's injury should be revealed early this week, but the Chargers will surely miss the Pro Bowler for as long as he is sidelined.

Rashawn Slater Activated From COVID-19 List
Los Angeles Chargers rookie left tackle Rashawn Slater was activated from the Reserve/COVID-19 list on Monday. Slater tested positive for the virus last week and was sidelined for Thursday's overtime loss to the division-rival Kansas City Chiefs in Week 15, but he will be back for this Sunday's matchup against the Houston Texans. Slater has started 13 games for the Chargers in his rookie season and has played 100% of the offensive snaps to begin his career. Getting Slater back will be good news for second-year quarterback Justin Herbert, who has been playing extremely well in recent weeks. The Chargers probably won't need to throw the ball all that much to beat the Texans, but Herbert will nevertheless be a strong QB1 for fantasy managers.

Rashawn Slater Signs Rookie Deal
Los Angeles Chargers rookie offensive tackle Rashawn Slater agreed to a four-year contract that is fully guaranteed on Tuesday. Slater was the 13th pick in the 2021 NFL draft and was one of the best tackles in college football for Northwestern this past season. The Chargers offensive line struggled this past season and Slater should be a big upgrade for Justin Herbert and company. With Slater under contract, only quarterbacks Zach Wilson and Trey Lance remain unsigned from the first round rookie class.

Chargers Take Rashawn Slater
With the 13th pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, the Los Angeles Chargers have drafted Northwestern offensive tackle Rashawn Slater. Widely regarded as the second-best offensive tackle in this year's draft after Penei Sewell, not too many expected Slater to fall to the 13th pick. Slater didn't allow a sack last season and allowed just two quarterback pressures. Slater will look to add pass protection for second-year quarterback Justin Herbert, who is coming off a great rookie season but was also sacked the ninth-most times in the NFL. If Herbert can stay upright more, he'll improve on his 2020 numbers and should be a solid fantasy QB1 pick.
