Elias Lindholm Ruled Out For The Week

Boston Bruins center Elias Lindholm (undisclosed) isn't going to see any preseason action this week, Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery said on Tuesday. Lindholm, who suffered an undisclosed injury on Day 1 of training camp, was supposed to return to the ice on Tuesday but wasn't able to join his teammates. This is quite worrisome for the Bruins, who made Lindholm a big free-agency signing in the summer. He's set to take over as the team's first-line center this season.

Tomas Nosek Expected To Miss Multiple Weeks

Florida Panthers forward Tomas Nosek (upper body) is set to miss multiple weeks of action. The Czech veteran was injured in Sunday's preseason contest against Nashville, and Panthers head coach Paul Maurice has said Nosek will miss "weeks, not days." Nosek was expected to start the campaign as Florida's fourth-line center, but his status for the season opener is now up in the air. The Panthers begin their Stanley Cup defense on Oct. 7 versus Boston.

Auston Matthews Dealing With Minor Upper-Body Injury

Toronto Maple Leafs center Auston Matthews left Tuesday's practice early with an upper-body injury. However, according to Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube, the injury isn't anything serious. The Maple Leafs fans and fantasy managers who are banking on Matthews to have another big season can breathe a sigh of relief. Matthews enjoyed a career year in 2023-24 with 69 goals and 107 points and has started the new campaign off on the right foot as well, scoring in his preseason debut on Saturday against Ottawa.

Thomas Bordeleau Out Week-To-Week With Lower-Body Injury

San Jose Sharks center Thomas Bordeleau is week-to-week with a lower-body injury. Bordeleau was hurt in training camp and might not be ready for the start of the regular season. "It is going to be close," Sharks head coach Ryan Warsofsky said regarding Bordeleau's availability for the regular-season opener. The 22-year-old appeared in 27 NHL games last season, scoring six goals and 11 points. He posted 25 points (11 goals, 14 assists) across 35 AHL appearances. Bordeleau has shown good upside, but the injury is an early blow for him this season.

Ridly Greig Exits Preseason Action For Precautionary Reasons

Ottawa Senators center Ridly Greig couldn't complete Tuesday's preseason game versus Toronto because of a headache. Greig exited the action near the end of the first period after he was taken down by Toronto forward Pontus Holmberg. The young centerman hit his head on the ice when Holmberg pulled him down from behind. Luckily, Greig didn't sustain a serious injury and was only pulled from the contest for precautionary reasons. He finished with four shots on goal and two hits across 5:13 of action. Greig totaled 26 points (13 goals, 13 assists) in 72 games during his first full NHL season in 2023-24. He should be capable of even more as a middle-six piece on the frontline this season.

Ryan Lindgren Exits Preseason Game With Upper-Body Injury

New York Rangers defenseman Ryan Lindgren suffered an upper-body injury in Tuesday's 6-4 win over the Islanders. Lindgren appeared to suffer the injury in a fight with Islanders defenseman Scott Mayfield. The incident happened early in the game, and Lindgren logged just 1:29 of ice time across two shifts before exiting the contest. As a stay-at-home defenseman, Lindgren lacks fantasy appeal, but he has been Adam Fox's trusted partner on the Rangers' first defensive pairing. The 26-year-old will be a big miss if he has suffered a serious injury.

Artemi Panarin Evaluated For Lower-Body Injury

New York Rangers left wing Artemi Panarin exited Tuesday's preseason game against the Islanders with a lower-body injury. He left the contest in the third period. Panarin went pointless with a minus-one rating across 11:58 of action. Losing Panarin for a long stretch would be a massive blow for the Rangers. The star winger erupted for a career-high 120 points (49 goals, 71 assists) last season. New York returns to preseason action on Thursday against the Boston Bruins.

Tristan Jarry Expected To Be Back At Practice On Tuesday

Pittsburgh Penguins goaltender Tristan Jarry (undisclosed) is expected to rejoin the team on Tuesday after missing Monday's practice session. Jarry missed practice because of a "medical appointment." Pittsburgh's No. 1 will hope to get a good preseason under his belt after struggling for most of 2023-24. Jarry posted a new career high with six shutouts but finished the campaign with a career-worst .903 save percentage and had a losing record of 19-25-5. He will start the second season of a five-year, $26.9 million contract extension signed last summer.

Rasmus Dahlin To Return To Practice On Tuesday

Buffalo Sabres defenseman Rasmus Dahlin (undisclosed) is poised to resume practicing on Tuesday. He will return to work in a non-contact jersey. Dahlin is nursing an unspecified injury after getting hurt at the start of training camp. He missed the team's first two preseason games and will sit out Tuesday's contest against Pittsburgh as well. However, Dahlin appears to be trending in the right direction and should be good to go when the regular season comes around. Buffalo begins its campaign with a pair of games in Europe against New Jersey on Oct. 4 and 5.

Igor Shesterkin Will Not Negotiate Extension With Rangers During Season

New York Rangers goaltender Igor Shesterkin does not want to negotiate an extension with the team during the season. The 28-year-old star netminder is a pending unrestricted free agent next summer. Shesterkin has said he "loves" the team and fans but wants to fully focus on his game during the season, meaning he likely won't extend his contract with the team during the regular season if a new deal isn't reached before opening night. According to The New York Post's Mollie Walker, Shesterkin's camp is looking for an average annual value of $12 million for his new contract. Uncertainty over his future could have a negative impact on Shesterkin's play in 2024-25.

Logan O'Connor Inks Six-Year Extension With Avalanche

Colorado Avalanche right wing Logan O'Connor tied himself long-term with the franchise on Monday, agreeing to a six-year extension. He's now under contract with the team through the 2030-31 season and will be paid $15 million for his services. The contract will count $2.5 million against the cap. O'Connor, who turned 28 six weeks ago, has spent his entire NHL career with the Avalanche after going undrafted out of the University of Denver. Ha has notched 35 goals and 82 points in 263 regular-season games. The American winger avered a career-high 0.44 points per game last season but was limited to only 57 games and 25 points (13 goals, 12 assists) due to a hip injury. O'Connor is among Colorado's top penalty-killers and will skate in a middle-six role this season.

Cole Perfetti Re-Signs With Jets For Two Years

Winnipeg Jets winger Cole Perfetti has inked a two-year, $6.5 million extension with the team. The two parties came to an agreement on a bridge deal that will carry a $3.25 million cap hit. Perfetti was a restricted free agent and missed the start of training camp because he wasn't under contract for 2024-25. The 22-year-old has skated in 140 games with the Jets, recording 29 goals and 75 points. Following a solid rookie campaign, his production went down in 2023-24, as he settled for 38 points (19 goals, 19 assists) in 71 appearances. However, Perfetti should now have all the motivation in the world to perform well, as he will need to be at his best to earn a lucrative long-term contract.

Matt Boldy Out Week-To-Week

Minnesota Wild winger Matt Boldy (lower body) is considered week-to-week after he missed Monday's practice. Boldy was unable to practice after sustaining a lower-body injury at the weekend. There are some fears Boldy might be unavailable for the regular-season opener due to the injury, but Wild head coach John Hynes has said that it's not a serious issue, and Boldy is expected to be back by the end of training camp. Boldy is a big piece of the Wild's offense and finished second in scoring on the team last season, putting up 69 points (29 goals, 40 assists) in 75 outings. He has improved his production in three straight campaigns, and another jump will be expected from the 23-year-old in 2024-25.

Anthony Mantha  • RW  •  Flames

Flames Want Anthony Mantha To Shoot More This Season

Calgary Flames right wing Anthony Mantha will be expected to fire off a lot more shots in 2024-25. "He's got a rocket of a shot," Flames head coach Ryan Huska said. "I asked him to shoot more if he's gonna play with Huby (Jonathan Huberdeau). Huby's a pass-first guy, as we know. So, I want him to be ready to shoot. We feel like if he has the mindset of, 'I've got to get up to 300 shots,' which is a lot of shots, then he's gonna score some goals because he's naturally talented that way." Mantha's single-season record for shots on goal stands at 198, and he has averaged around 2.3 shots per game for his career. The 30-year-old has struggled in recent campaigns but could have a career year in Calgary if things work out as Huska envisions.

Tomas Nosek Injured In Preseason Game

Florida Panthers forward Tomas Nosek left Sunday's preseason contest against Nashville with an undisclosed injury. He crashed hard into the boards and needed help to get off the ice. Nosek exited the contest after logging only four shifts and 2:27 of ice time. The Czech veteran joined the Stanley Cup champions on a one-year, $775,000 deal, giving the team a solid extra bottom-six option. Nosek has tallied 107 points (44 goals, 63 assists) in 434 career games with an impressive 54.4 faceoff winning percentage.

Pavel Buchnevich Nursing Foot Injury

St. Louis Blues winger Pavel Buchnevich (foot) missed practice on Sunday after getting injured in Saturday's preseason contest against Dallas. Buchnevich got hurt when he blocked a shot with his foot. He managed to finish the game, so it looks like Buchnevich isn't seriously hurt, but he was kept off the ice on Sunday. The Blues have no practice scheduled for Monday, giving Buchnevich two rest days to get better. After averaging more than a point per game in two consecutive seasons, Buchnevich took a step back in 2023-24 with 63 points (27 goals, 36 assists) in 80 appearances. He'll aim to bounce back this season as a pivotal part of the Blues' attack.

Arthur Kaliyev Ruled Out Indefinitely With Fractured Clavicle

Los Angeles Kings right wing Arthur Kaliyev has been ruled out indefinitely after suffering a fractured clavicle. Kaliyev was hurt on Day 2 of training camp Friday. These types of injuries typically take at least 10 weeks to heal, meaning Kaliyev is looking at a multi-month absence. Los Angeles is forced to start the season without a player who has averaged close to 0.4 points per game for his career while mostly filling a fourth-line role. It was a down year for Kaliyev in 2023-24, however, as the 23-year-old finished with 15 points (seven goals, eight assists) in 51 games.

Evander Kane Out Until 2025

Edmonton Oilers left wing Evander Kane (sports hernia) is not expected to be available until January or February after undergoing surgery, according to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman. Kane had the procedure done on Friday in New York City. He needed to have repairs done on two torn hip adductor muscles, two hernias, and two torn lower abdominal muscles. All of the injuries came as a result of Kane playing through a sports hernia in 2023-24. Kane's absence leaves the Oilers without an important top-six piece, but the team has added quality to its attack in the summer with the additions of Jeff Skinner and Viktor Arvidsson. Both players look set to play an important role for Edmonton right off the bat with Kane unavailable.

Alex Ovechkin Takes Skate Test On Saturday

Washington Capitals left wing Alex Ovechkin (undisclosed) was able to take his skate test and practiced with the team on Saturday. He initially sat out the test on Thursday as the Capitals captain was dealing with a minor injury he suffered during the offseason. With a few weeks still to go until the team's regular-season opener, there doesn't appear to be too much concern regarding Ovechkin's health. The Capitals begin the action on Oct. 12 versus the New Jersey Devils.

Erik Haula  • LW  •  Devils

Erik Haula Battling An Illness

New Jersey Devils forward Erik Haula (illness) hasn't been available for the first few days of training camp because he is feeling under the weather. Haula is a savvy veteran who can be used throughout the lineup, and he has been posting solid but unspectacular numbers throughout his 11-year NHL career. Last season, the 33-year-old came close to registering his third consecutive 40-point campaign, as he popped up with 16 goals and had 19 assists in 76 contests. Haula should be a decent contributor again for the Devils in 2024-25 as a middle-six piece in the attack.
