Toronto Blue Jays reliever Nick Sandlin (elbow) was placed on the injured list on July 8 after experiencing right elbow inflammation. He had just returned from a lat injury that cost him two months from April to June. The good news here is that he is feeling better and was able to play catch on Friday. He hopes to build on this progress in the coming weeks, progressing to bullpen sessions, live sessions, and a rehab assignment. The 28-year-old still has a long way to go before returning to the Blue Jays' bullpen, but this was a good start.

Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Nick Sandlin (lat) has started a throwing program and is throwing up to 60 feet as of Tuesday. Sandlin was placed on the 15-day injured list on April 20 with a right-lat strain, but he has resumed throwing and could rejoin Toronto's major-league bullpen by the middle of May. The 28-year-old received a platelet-rich plasma injection after landing on the IL. Before his injury, he appeared in 10 games out of the team's bullpen and allowed five runs (two earned) on six hits while walking four and striking out 10 in eight innings. He also picked up his second career save. In four seasons prior with the Cleveland Guardians, Sandlin had a decent 3.27 ERA, a 1.15 WHIP, one save, 223 strikeouts and 92 walks in 209 outings (one start) over 195 1/3 frames. Sandlin is not on the fantasy radar.

The Toronto Blue Jays acquired right-hander Nick Sandlin and second baseman Andres Gimenez from the Cleveland Guardians on Tuesday in exchange for outfielder Nick Mitchell and infielder Spencer Horwitz, who was later flipped to the Pittsburgh Pirates for three pitchers. Sandlin, 27, has posted a decent 3.27 ERA (4.41 FIP), a 1.15 WHIP, one save and a 223:92 K:BB in 195 1/3 innings over 209 appearances (one start) in his first four years in the big leagues, all with the Guardians. For the second straight season in 2024, the reliever had a 3.75 ERA while also sporting a 1.27 WHIP, a career-high 68 strikeouts and 27 walks in 57 2/3 frames. The former second-round selection by Cleveland in the 2018 draft out of the University of Mississippi will serve in a middle-relief role for the Jays in 2025 and won't carry much fantasy value.

Cleveland Guardians relief pitcher Nick Sandlin (back, shoulder) is dealing with an upper back/shoulder strain and will miss the rest of the postseason. Sandlin was forced from his relief appearance in Game 2 of the American League Wild-Card Series against the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday and won't pitch again until next year. With the 25-year-old now on the shelf for the rest of the playoffs, Cody Morris and Aaron Civale will be options to join Cleveland's bullpen for the AL Division Series against the New York Yankees this week. In 46 relief appearances for the Guardians this year, Sandlin had a strong 2.25 ERA (3.68 FIP), a 1.16 WHIP, 41 strikeouts and 24 walks in 44 innings in his second big-league season.
