Maurice Hurst News
The Cleveland Browns signed free-agent defensive tackle Maurice Hurst to an undisclosed deal on Wednesday, according to a source. Hurst played in only two games in his lone season for the San Francisco 49ers in 2021 due to a torn biceps and didn't play at all in the NFL last year. The 27-year-old was originally a fifth-round selection by the Las Vegas Raiders back in 2018. In his four seasons in the NFL, Hurst has totaled just 78 tackles (53 solo), eight sacks, nine tackles for loss, 17 QB hits, one interception, seven passes defensed, a forced fumble and two fumble recoveries in 42 games (17 starts). He will be hoping to stay healthy in a depth role for the Browns in 2023.
San Francisco 49ers defensive tackle Maurice Hurst (biceps) tore his biceps muscle in Friday's training camp practice, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan. Hurst will likely miss all of the 2022 season as a result. It hasn't been a good start to training camp for the 49ers defense, as Dre Greenlaw (hamstring) and Arik Armstead (knee) have also been sidelined with injuries. Hurst played in just two games for San Francisco last year while dealing with ankle and calf injuries, and now he'll miss all of 2022 after signing a one-year deal. The 27-year-old was expected to compete for rotational snaps on the interior of the team's defensive line this year.
The San Francisco signed free-agent defensive tackle Maurice Hurst to an undisclosed deal on Thursday. Hurst had eight sacks in his three seasons with the Las Vegas Raiders, but the former fifth-round draft pick in 2018 was waived last week. The 49ers had some depth issues on their defensive line last season, so Hurst will help bolster that depth in 2021. Hurst was a projected first-round pick out of Michigan until he was diagnosed with a heart condition that kept him from taking part in the NFL combine. He will be expected to provide depth on the defensive line alongside DJ Jones and Javon Kinlaw this season.
