Bears Release Tremaine Edmunds

The Chicago Bears are releasing Pro Bowl linebacker Tremaine Edmunds on Thursday, sources told Adam Schefter of ESPN. Edmunds will enter free agency this offseason after being a full-time starter in each of his first eight seasons in the NFL. The 27-year-old former 16th overall pick by the Buffalo Bills in 2018 out of Virginia Tech played in a career-low 13 games for the Chicago Bears in 2025 in his third year with the team. Despite missing four regular-season games, Edmunds still tallied 112 tackles (61 solo), one sack, a career-high four interceptions, nine pass breakups, and a fumble recovery. Edmunds has had over 100 combined tackles in all eight of his NFL seasons, and he should generate plenty of interest on the open market. Cutting Edmunds will free up $15 million on this year's salary cap for the Bears. Edmunds has exactly 900 combined tackles as he heads into his ninth year in the league in 2026.

Bears Grant Tremaine Edmunds Permission to Seek a Trade

The Chicago Bears have granted permission for linebacker Tremaine Edmunds to seek a trade this offseason, a league source told Brad Biggs of The Chicago Tribune. Edmunds is under contract through the 2026 season at $15 million after he signed a four-year, $72 million contract with the team in May of 2023. He's still young at 27 years old and was playing at a Pro Bowl caliber in 10 games before suffering a minor injury. Despite playing in a career-low 13 games in his third season in Chicago, the former 16th overall pick of the Buffalo Bills in 2018 out of Virginia Tech led the Bears with 112 tackles (61 solo). He also had one sack, a career-high four interceptions, nine pass breakups, and a forced fumble in the regular season. If Edmunds reaches the open market, he'll be one of the better linebackers available and should sign quickly.

Tremaine Edmunds Misses Tuesday's Practice With Knee Injury

Chicago Bears linebacker Tremaine Edmunds (knee) did not practice on Tuesday as his team prepares to take on the Carolina Panthers at home in Week 10's Thursday game. Edmunds' absence marks two straight missed practices as he deals with a knee injury that he picked up during a Week 9 loss to the New Orleans Saints. At this point, Edmunds would likely need to get in at least a limited practice on Wednesday to have a chance at playing on Thursday. He has 63 total tackles, one interception, and one fumble recovery in eight games this season.

Bears Give Tremaine Edmunds A Four-Year Deal

The Chicago Bears agreed to a four-year, $72 million deal with former Buffalo Bills linebacker Tremaine Edmunds on Monday, according to a source. The deal includes $50 million guaranteed and is the largest four-year contract for an inside linebacker in NFL history. The 24-year-old former first-rounder in 2018 has had at least 100 total tackles in each of his five seasons with the Bills and is one of the best inside linebackers in the league. Paired with T.J. Edwards, Chicago suddenly has one of the better linebacking duos in the NFL. Even though he's now in Chicago, Tremaine Edmunds should remain a top IDP linebacker in 2023 and beyond.

Tremaine Edmunds Looking To Hear All Offers In Free Agency

Linebacker Tremaine Edmunds plans to "let the process take shape," a statement he recently made regarding his impending free-agent status. The 24-year-old, who wrapped up the fifth and final season of his rookie deal, had amassed 565 total tackles, 6.5 sacks, and five interceptions since being selected in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft by the Bills. Without a doubt, Buffalo would love to keep him on the roster. However, the Bills need to make some moves to get under the cap, so Edmunds could very well find himself on a new team next season.

Tremaine Edmunds Questionable To Return Sunday

Buffalo Bills linebacker Tremaine Edmunds (groin) is questionable to return against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 10. He had three tackles before exiting, bringing his season-long total to 65. With the 24-year-old sidelined, Tyrel Dodson will handle more snaps at linebacker.

Tremaine Edmunds Out For Bills Defense

Buffalo Bills linebacker Tremaine Edmunds (hamstring) is officially out for the Week 11 game against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday. Edmunds was listed as questionable on the final injury report and will miss his second straight game. The 23-year-old is a big part of Buffalo's interior defense as a near every-down player. He has recorded 55 tackles (35 solo), three tackles for loss, one interception and two passes defensed in eight games in 2021. Edmunds' absence will make it more difficult on a Buffalo D trying to slow down Colts running back Jonathan Taylor. Expect to see A.J. Klein on the field more with Edmunds out for a second straight game. The Bills defense/special teams should remain in all starting fantasy lineups.

Tremaine Edmunds, Matt Milano Expected To Be Active

Buffalo Bills linebackers Tremaine Edmunds (shoulder) and Matt Milano (hamstring) are both expected to be active for Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Rams. Edmunds was limited all week while Milano got in a full session on Friday. It's big news for Buffalo, who will now have two of their best defenders to help solidify the middle of the field. Rams tight end Tyler Higbee might be looking at a more difficult matchup than anticipated, though he should still be in lineups due to his red zone prowess.

Tremaine Edmunds Emerging As A Leader

Buffalo Bills linebacker Tremaine Edmunds is emerging as one of the defensive leaders to help replace Lorenzo Alexander and Kyle Williams, who have moved on in recent seasons. "Well the first guy that comes to mind is just seeing Tremaine's development in this offseason," defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier said. "This virtual offseason. Just the way he has been kind of bringing players together and talking with them, calling them, reaching out to them, going past his own position, the linebackers position." Edmunds just turned 22 years old and had 115 tackles -- his second 110-plus tackle season in as many years -- and nine passes defensed. Buffalo's defense/special teams is a unit on the rise and should be targeted as a top-five fantasy commodity, while Edmunds is also a fringe starter at linebacker in IDP leagues.

Tremaine Edmunds Misses Practice With Concussion

Buffalo Bills sensational rookie linebacker Tremaine Edmunds missed Wednesday's practice, as he is in the league's concussion protocol. Edmunds left Monday night's game prior to halftime, shortly after hitting helmets with Patriots fullback James Develin. Before leaving the game, the 20-year-old middle linebacker recorded eight tackles (six solo), marking the fourth contest that he has reached that many combined tackles. He has registered six or more tackles in each game this season. Veteran Julian Stanford will likely replace the former Virginia Tech star in the starting lineup if he is unable to go. If Edmunds does play against the Bears in Week 9, he is certainly an IDP target for fantasy players, as he is a three-down player who is averaging 13.5 points a game.
