James Outman Recalled

The Minnesota Twins have recalled outfielder James Outman from Triple-A St. Paul. He'll take the roster spot of outfielder Alan Roden (thumb), who went on the 10-day injured list on Saturday with a sprained left thumb. Outman will join the Twins for the first time since the organization acquired him from the Los Angeles Dodgers for reliever Brock Stewart on July 31. He has since slashed .235/.316/.490 with three home runs, 10 RBI, and three stolen bases in 57 plate appearances with St. Paul. The Twins would welcome that type of production in the majors, and Outman has provided it in the past. He appeared to break out during a 2023 campaign in which he hit .248/.353/.437 with 23 homers, 70 RBI, 86 runs scored, and 16 stolen bases in 567 plate appearances. That may have been a fluke, however, as Outman has since put together a brutal .137/.245/.269 line with six HRs, 15 RBI, 20 runs, two steals, and a 36.5% strikeout rate in 200 trips to the plate in the majors. The 28-year-old should get a crack at turning things around on an out-of-contention Twins team.

Twins Acquire James Outman

The Minnesota Twins announced that they have acquired outfielder James Outman from the Los Angeles Dodgers for right-hander Brock Stewart. Outman seemingly had a breakout season in 2023 with a .248/.353/.437 line and 23 homers, 70 RBI, 86 runs scored, and 16 stolen bases over 567 plate appearances. However, Outman's stock has fallen dramatically since then. He has appeared in 75 games over the past season and a half, including 22 this year, and hit a disastrous .137/.245/.269 with six homers and 15 RBI in 200 trips to the plate. While the 28-year-old has spent most of the season at the Triple-A level, he could get an opportunity in Minnesota with Harrison Bader going to Philadelphia and Byron Buxton (rib) on the 10-day injured list.

Enrique Hernandez to Injured List, James Outman Recalled

Los Angeles Dodgers infielder/outfielder Enrique Hernandez (elbow) has been placed on the 10-day injured list on Monday. Hernandez has reportedly been dealing with elbow inflammation for a while now, so the team decided to give him some time off. Luckily, Hernandez is dealing with inflammation in his non-throwing arm, so hopefully he'll be able to return faster. In a corresponding move, outfielder James Outman has been recalled from Triple-A. Outman figures to serve as a depth option in the outfield over the next few weeks. Outman will bat ninth and cover center field versus right-hander Freddy Peralta on Monday. The left-handed slugger is 3-for-24 at the big league level this season, so he's not an ideal fantasy option.

James Outman Goes Yard On Thursday

Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder James Outman hit his second long ball of the season on Thursday night in the sixth inning off Mitch Spence to extend the Dodgers' lead to 16-2. During an evening in which the Dodgers' offense exploded and hit five home runs, Outman joined the party later in the game and finished his evening going 2-for-4 with three runs scored, one RBI, and one walk. Outman has cracked the Dodgers' lineup due to injuries to Teoscar Hernandez and Tommy Edman, and thus far through eight games has a .143/.250/.429 slash line with two home runs, five runs scored, and four RBI. Fantasy managers can lean on Outman as a fill-in for injuries or a streamer if he has a hot bat, but he would not be a recommended play for the long haul. Next up for Outman and the Dodgers is a three-game series against the Los Angeles Angels.

James Outman Making Season Debut Against Marlins

Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder James Outman was recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City on Tuesday and is making his 2025 MLB debut on Tuesday against the hosting Miami Marlins, starting in center field and batting eighth against Marlins right-hander Cal Quantrill. The 27-year-old is taking the roster spot of Teoscar Hernandez (groin), who landed on the 10-day injured list. With Tommy Edman (ankle) also on the shelf for L.A., Outman could play regularly for the Dodgers, at least against right-handed pitchers. Before joining the Dodgers for the first time this year, Outman was swinging it well with a .254/.322/.508 with an .830 OPS, eight home runs, 27 RBI and five stolen bases in 32 games with OKC. The former seventh-rounder only hit .147 (20-for-136) with 55 K's in 156 trips to the plate in 2024, but he's at least worth a short-term look as outfield depth in NL-only leagues.

James Outman Swinging A Hot Bat At Triple-A

Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder James Outman has enjoyed an impressive week at Triple-A and was named Pacific Coast League Hitter of the Week. Over his last seven contests, the outfielder has held a .448/.467/.828 slash line with three doubles, one triple, and two home runs. He has also swiped two bags over this stretch and posted three multi-hit games. This is an excellent sign for Outman, as he held a modest .172/.264/.370 slash line over his first 19 games of the regular season. Outman spent most of the 2023 season in the majors but appeared in only 53 games in 2024, as he was frequently shifted between the big leagues and Triple-A. Fantasy managers should monitor his progression at Oklahoma City, as he could be in the mix to return to the majors. If he does get the call, he could be worth adding in NL-only formats.

Jason Heyward To The Injured List, James Outman Recalled

The Los Angeles Dodgers placed outfielder Jason Heyward (knee) on the 10-day injured list with a left-knee contusion, according to manager Dave Roberts. The good news is that Heyward's meniscus and ligaments are intact. In a corresponding move, the Dodgers recalled outfielder James Outman from Triple-A Oklahoma City. The 34-year-old Heyward could be back shortly after the All-Star break as a left-handed-hitting platoon outfielder for LA. Heyward has only 118 at-bats in 2024 due to injuries and is hitting a weak .203/.299/.398 with four homers, 20 RBI and 16 runs scored. Outma, 27, was sent to the farm in May and hit .285/.396/.556 with 10 homers and 22 RBI in 182 plate appearances for Oklahoma City. He figures to see occasional starts against righties. On Friday, Miguel Vargas enters the outfield picture in left field and will bat seventh for the Blue.

James Outman Hits Third Home Run Of The Week

Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder James Outman went 2-for-5 with a home run Thursday evening. In his past seven games at Triple-A Oklahoma City, the 27-year-old has launched three long balls and held a strong .594 SLG. The Sacramento State product was demoted to Triple-A on May 27 after getting off to a slow start in the majors. Through his time in the minors this season, Outman has performed exceptionally well with a .291/.419/.563, seven long home runs, five swiped bags, 18 RBI, and a 19:31 BB:K ratio. In 36 games in the majors in the early part of the season, Outman struggled with a .147/.250/.266 line, which is why he was optioned. However, with his recent play at Triple-A he could rejoin the Dodgers fairly soon and could be worth adding in deeper redraft leagues as he should provide a solid combination of power and speed.

James Outman Goes Deep For Triple-A Oklahoma City

Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder James Outman went 1-for-5 with a solo home run for Triple-A Oklahoma City on Sunday. Outman has had three homers and eight RBI in June, along with a .226 batting average. The 27-year-old was optioned to Triple-A by the Dodgers on May 17. Since then, he has hit .292 with six homers, 16 RBI, and a .987 OPS. With Mookie Betts (hand) set to miss time, Outman could be on the radar for a call-up to the major leagues. He hit just .147 in 109 at-bats with the Dodgers this season, but his numbers since his demotion to the minors have been good, and they suggest he may be ready for another shot in L.A. Given another opportunity, Outman could be an interesting waiver-wire addition.

James Outman Performing Well Since Demotion

Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder James Outman has been performing well since being moved down to Triple-A and should be back up in the major leagues fairly soon. Through nine games with Triple-A Oklahoma City, the 27-year-old has posted a .333/.524/.567 line with two home runs, four RBI, two stolen bases, and a 10:13 BB:K ratio. Outman had a big game on Thursday where he tallied three hits, including a home run, and brought in two runs. The former seventh-round pick struggled at the plate during the early part of the season and posted a poor .147/.250/.266 line, which resulted in his demotion. However, Outman is looking much more comfortable since taking some time in the minor leagues and is worth stashing in deeper redraft leagues as he could still provide fantasy managers with a solid combination of power and speed when he returns to Los Angeles.
